- There are some fighting aircraft that have reached legendary status in the world of flight. The one we’re looking at in this video has had a distinguished 50-year career and still remains in service to this day. This is the F-16 fighting falcon, a jet that is used all over the world and for very good reasons. Let’s go into a bit more detail about what makes this plane one of the most trusted and impressive of its kind.

A pure fighter for the times. Like the F4U Corsair and the Hellcat it has what it needs to do the job. It will go down as one of the best ever.
Wasn't the F4U the most badass looking fighter in the Pacific? With those bent wings and huge prop it probably terrified the Japanese before firing a shot!
THE LOCKHEED F-16 FALCON !
She's got that P-51 game changer quality about her and is as bad as ever approaching her 50th anniversary, way ahead of her time by 20/25yrs and is constantly finding new ways to deliver in a multiroll facet , I think she's got a record that's not quite undefeated, yet undisputed as the most successful multiroll fighter with a roughly 206 to 2 record worldwide, the first computer integrated fly by wire fighter, In block 80 something ? she's more lethal than ever , yet esthetically she's almost identical to her 1st combat ready squadron ... a true modern marvel of aviation .
@@MichaelRoy-hc3lz The Curtis P-40 Tomahawk was also a great indo-pacific Zero killer as well , china's free people called her the "FLYING TIGER " because they felt safest when she was up in the skys above... she was the original Flying Tank !
MY SON FLEW THEN FOR 10 YEARS AND LOVED THAT PLANE. NOW HE IS AN f35 INSTRUCTOR.
F-16 and the B-1 bomber are two of the most beautifully designed aircraft to me 😊
For me f 16 , B 1 lancher n B2 spirit

And the H-58 is the third.
@@KlipsenTube Did you mean the B-58 Hustler? If so, then I agree with you.
50 years! The fact that I remember their introduction makes me feel old:)
Vintage…seasoned…experienced…..not OLD. LOL.
Me too
Haha Time flies like an F16
You are! Me too! It looks like we are in good company.
Gotcha beat! I remember when my USAF pilot father went to flight school to learn to fly the “new B52s!” He’s now 92 & last piloted an airplane at age 84!
Finally a good and detailed overview without any "Fighter Mafia" BS
Good work!
Thank you!
Before they were called the "Fighter Mafia" they were referred to as "The Tribe of the One Hearts" one plane, one pilot and one Engine as aircraft were intended to be flown. A sub set of the Tribe of TAC...
Does the Fighter Mafia fly Italian Fighters? 🤔
I am so tired of the word SHOCK in titles. It just doesn't mean anything any more. Too often it's click bait.
I'm amazed how often the world seems to be shocked
Especially, if no-one even heard of anything about whatever the videos claim shocked the world this time. Clickbait title is clickbairy AF.
Thank you I had no idea, the F16 is an excellent fighter jet, glad the US with smarts and ingenuity has put it all together 🇱🇷👍
The F-15 F-16 combo maybe the most successful one two punch of air dominance and attack fighters in history. Half a century after it's first availability the F-16 is the fighter our Allies want and enemies fear.
I brushed my teeth this morning and SHOCKED the world.
A pilot dodged 6 SAMs, in sequence, during the Gulf War, and landed safely at base. That's without all the new avionic upgrades.
As the line in Remo Williams goes "sometimes blessed with ruck". --Chun/Joel Grey.
My Mother and Father (Air Force Captain) were at the first Roll Out of the F16 and were given 16mm film of the historic moment by McDonald Douglass.
Great report on a great fighter! F16 Falcon is in a class all by itself!
Shocking how beautiful this plane is.
Beautiful plane, watching it Wishing I was Fly in it. Great video
Its a hot sports car in the air!
In 1980 I worked on them them at Hill AFB tail numbers like 008 and 012. It is so cool to see them still going!
Excellent Presentation - Thankyou
Except for the BS title.

Thanks, Military World.
I know one thing it's the best in the RATE fight! It's a sports car for a jet fighter.. I'm a 15 fan myself...
Great channel, and top tier compliments to the narrator.
Most beautiful aircraft!
You haven't lived until you've experienced the: “Falcon Turn“...

A-10 drivers be like, hold my beer watch this...
Good video but you need to update it with current information regarding the Block 70/72 new production and upgrade.
As one of the first Avionics Instructors at Hill afb back when MOTE was just starting out I am impressed with the detail and attention to detail of this video. When I went back to the F-15 program the Block 41 aircraft were the "coming thing" Thank you for bring back some of my fondest memories of the USAF days.
thanks for your service, I worked AIS
I was with General Dynamics when the first test aircraft came to Edwards AFB, and I saw that amazing near-disaster with Phil Oestricher in the cockpit. What memories! They'd load it down with so many armaments that it would waddle down the runway like a fat Christmas goose. Once it was airborne, though, it lived up to its name and was quick, precise, and beautiful! I could never have imagined the legendary fighter plane it would become.
So many advantages of the F-16
Nice video. You forgot to mention the podded SENSOR Systems (LANTIRN & Lightning pods) which add a great amount of precision to the ground attach missions.
My favorite military aircraft!
You forgot to mention the on board pizza oven and New soft serve ice cream dispenser. It's truly a fighter with something for everyone.
As a retired Msgt, USAF I'am proud of my Air Force F-16.
I am a vendor to a company that builds components for weapons systems. One day I saw a thick circuit board that was about 5 or 6 feet long. Without thinking, I said "what does that go into?". The engineer tried to provide an answer that didn't give up classified information. He said, "it goes into a system that is a one-time use". It wasn't hard to figure out what he meant.
Israel uses modified F 16s as fighter/bomber super speed to hit past radar targets with great accuracy. USA still makes great planes.
An Awesome ship.
Ship???
The headline promises more than your video actually gives. Disappointing.
A lot of COL John Boyd’s research into energy use is in the F-16.
I noticed that you didn’t mention that the first versions of the F-15 engine produced more thrust than the airplane weight which enabled it to accelerate through the sound barrier going vertical. It still capable of this feat! I also recall that the F-15 was similarly capable.
The F-16 was the first of its kind in the world, and in the USAF. It was the first to use "relaxed aerodynamics", which means it must have computer aids to fly. In addition, it was the first to introduce, both fly-by-wire and, a side stick control. It also has a more raked seat, which diminishes the G-loading on the pilot. It is indeed a legendary aircraft for these and other reasons. The original fighter held a limited amount of fuel (which has since been augmented with conformal fuselage tanks.) Even though its original fuel load was low, for European customers, which cover small regions, they are ideal. They were developed by the so called 'Fighter Mafia' in the Pentagon, themselves former or current Fighter pilots, it met the needs at the time, for an aircraft with great agility. Did I forget to mention they are very beautiful.
All time great fighter. What would a P-51 Mustang be if it were a jet fighter. An F-16.
Most definitely, the P-51 looks great next to a couple Vipers .
Likely the most successful combat fighter aircraft of the modern era.
'Scuse me. That would be the F15.
Imagine this thing with thrust vectoring. Would that even be possible? That aside, what is this NEW upgrade that shocked the world. I think I missed it.
It was the latest ECM and RADAR System Numbers. In a decade or so We will find out what kind of GEE WHIZZ processors are in them. There are Avionics things on that airplane i taught back in the early 80s that I have not seen written down on the internet to this day Look up Ternary computer on Wikipedia
I think that they were gonna try thrust vectoring in the F-16 XL Deltawing, gorgeous girl, she was gonna be faster with almost double the payload and more range... like a Falcon on steroids, gorgeous as well
Wonderful gems come in smaller packages. Here is one such jem.
She is a beauty!
Your first flight story is inaccurate from what I've read. This test was supposed to be a high speed taxi test, not a flight test. But when the pilot got up to the speed for the test, the aircraft simply wanted to fly and the pilot obliged it!
Never argue with a lady when she's ready to go ! Its bad luck...
Is maintenance an issue with all the high tech equipment?
How much do the boxy looking fuel tanks affect the airflow and how much drag do they cause.
Honestly it looks like a different aircraft.
The modern Block 60 F-16s are marvels of modern technology.
Now, just imagine if we had gotten the F-14 ASF. _sigh_ We can dream.
It's a great design because it is basically one jet engine with wings strapped to it, not much more. Similar to that of the F-104 starfighter, except with double the wingspan, and a more efficient single lower air inlet instead of two side inlets.
Is that the new block -70 or 71 they are definitely upgrading the f-16 that’s a great fighter jet it have delivered
I like it
1 Formidable aircraft ! Put them against Put-in !
In the 70's i remember the engine pushed out over 23k thrust. I'm wondering if it's now more.
2:15 It was a high speed taxi test that was a whoops accidental takeoff. I think it was something to do with the new stick sensitivity/programming was a bit off.
f14 is the uf killer
I’m shocked!!!!!!
To All-Pilipino love th F15 , STRIKE EAGLE II.THE BEST FIGHTER JETS AMERICA CREATED I HOPED AMERICA GIVE TO THE PHILIPPINES,ONE OF THOSE F15 , strike eagle II.We like it very much 💔.PBBM
The experimental F-16 with the Delta wings would have made a good long range fighter-bomber.
One flew over my house but that was a long time ago
The F-16 is the sports car of fighter aircraft.
Dont forget the Eurofighter😉
More like the Miata of aircraft.
True, but we were usually in the trucking business. Still miss my jet.
That would be the F15, fast AND quick.
F-16 😊 F-16XL 😎😎😎
The latest versions of the F-16 are no longer called the Fighting Falcon. The newest versions are so different from the original that the United States Air Force has re-designated the block 70/72 F-16 the Viper.
May god be with us all
This is the reliable jet fighter used by Israel in their war effort in the middle east
I met man from Terra de Fuego and he wasn’t shocked at all!
AAM-N-5 Meteor missile as well.
I know thay need them but we r going to need them
Pilot comfort & G-tolerance were NOT the reasons the seat was reclined 30°.
👍

Wonder if they could develop a “F-16” equivalent for the F-22? Smaller, cheaper, stealthy for going in, less stealthy going out to cut cost. Just wondering.
And they're STILL upgrading and selling it - and for good reason. According to the internet (always dangerous), an F-16 costs 1/3 that of a JSF.
By the early 1980s, the American AIM-7 Sparrow radar-guided missile in its "M" version was realistically exceeding a 60% kill rate, and was integrated onto the F-20. Brigadier General Chuck Yeager, test pilot and the first man to break the sound barrier, referred to the F-20 as "the finest fighter".[157] Despite its performance and affordable cost, the F-20 lost out for foreign sales against the similarly capable but more expensive F-16, which was being procured in large numbers by the US Air Force and was viewed as having greater support. Think Lydon Johnson and Ft. Worth, Texas
My cousin flew the F-16 for over 20 years. He put in his retirement papers when they converted his squadron to the F-35. He said he refuses to fly the "Plastic toy" as he calls it. The F-35 is a much less maneuverable aircraft and the only advantage it has is that it can't be seen on radar.
Once upon a time I was told that for every “shipped” F-16 there was a companion tractor-trailer load of printed documentation. I wonder what shape the present version documentation might take…
Digital documents. Were you expecting a paper owner's manual in the glove box? 😉
Great video. A couple of minor points. ALARM was a British RAF missile, also used by Saudis but not on F16 (Tornado only, I believe). I get that this is more about operational characteristics/capabilities but it would have been nice to see a mention of the F16 XL (cranked delta - like the SAAB Draken) which was an excellent but abandoned development.
I hate to disagree but the ALARM was tested and certified to fly on Falcons at Hill AFB rather early on in the F-16 Multi National Operations Test and Evaluation Program. (MOT&E) Just because we did not use a weapon often does not mean the capability was not there. The Nordic NATO made great efforts to make every possibility available from the very start.
@@dickslocum Understood. Tested but as I understand it, never operationally used (even if not launched).
I'm not disappointed that the F-16 XL wasn't covered. As you stated, that project was abandoned.
Who is this video for? The title suggests unqualified viewers but the details about the latest F16 iteration carrying the Raythrop Douglas 7.4 ASHRAAM 86E Fuzzbuster Mark 3 Anti-Radar missile suggests otherwise.
And bring my jordan shoes 😅
Gamechanger 🤣🤣🤣
I just wonder what version Ukraine is getting. Especially which radar.
The Israeli F-16 SUFA is the ultimate iteration of the F-16..................................PERIOD !
Two F16's on one SU57 for half the price of Ivan. No Brainner.
I sure hope the Ukrainians get these IF they ever get ANYTHING !
Was the world shocked? Not sure those that know aviation were 'shocked', let alone the world
3:11 | There isn't a refueling "probe" on an F-16, only a receptacle. The tanker has the probe. Also, get rid of the clickbait title (Shocked the World) and please have your scripts proofed for accuracy and outrageousness before producing. TD
We will see how they work or used in Ukraine
Every single F-16 in the USAF inventory needs to be upgraded to the block 70/72 standard.
Only 240 are getting upgraded to block 70 standards.
it's Viper dude, that show's you're no expert
if it works, don't fix it
Know we need them here
Where is "here"?
Clickbait :( Very sad
Its the VW Bug of fighter jets. Not horrible. A little better than 'just good enough' but cheap enough to build in large numbers. Let's face it, when an F16 beats an Eastern Block countries current generation jet, its not the plane that wins, its the pilot and his/her training. That's what makes "good enough" a viable option.
As to the video, it sounds like a car dealer listing all the possible options. 'Can fire the blah, blah, blah' turns into the voice of adults in a Charlie Brown cartoon. This was supposed to be about the PLANE, not about what you can hang on it. What can it turn? What can it OUT turn? What can it out climb? These are what SHOULD have been discussed, not a laundry list of what you can strap to it. You could get nearly the same results if you could strap the same weapons on an F4U.
No, if there was a car I'd compare it to, it would be a 1970 El Camino SS 454.
Fast and able to haul loads of munitions.
The F-4?
America's testament that if you strap a big enough engine on it, you can make a brick fly.
There's no comparison.
@@Juan-os4hs Its not that fast. Now where near F15 or SU27 speeds.
@@lenzielenski3276
Well, I had to look around, alot.
Well you're right in regards between the F-15 and the F-16, with the the '15 having a 374 mph advantage over the '16, its due to the '15 having two of the engines that the '16 has, well duh.
But if it comes down to twisty turny, the '16s gonna eat the '15s lunch... that is if the Eagle driver is dumb enough to let the Falcon get that close.
As for between the F-16 and the SU-27, they're prettily evenly matched, with the F-16C only being shy of 50 mph MAX speed.
There however I'll give the edge to the Su-27-if the pilot thereof can successfully execute the "Cobra" maneuver, otherwise they're so evenly matched, I'd be hard pressed because of bias for the '16 to give any advantage to the SU-27, it would basically come down to pilot skill/experience at that point.
@@Juan-os4hs "Well, you're right..."
I know. I was wrong once, I remember, back in '82. BTW, that's why the F15 is the Air SUPREMACY fighter. None ever shot down. Not so for the F16. Case closed, the F16 is 'good enough', just like a VW Bug
I have a Super Hetrodyne radar receiver in my car. I bet it cost far less then theirs ! 😁
I have to share this true but very strange story.
At one time the USAF and Navy put two different American fighters in pilot to pilot competition as they often do. I believe one was the very advance radar F14 and one was the Phantom or maybe even a early F16 without advanced radar like the F14. Anyway the F14 was cleaning the Phantoms/F-16? clock with its long range radar capability. That was until the pilot took his FuzzBuster radar detector and managed to wire into his cockpit.
Everytime he was lit up he did a max g break and the F 14 pilots didn't do so well after that. .😁
I don't believe you.
Why switch to F35's?
Pentagon desk jockies pissing contests.
Yes, the pissing thing, but also those F-16 radars don't see "stealth aircraft". Dog fights don't happen anymore (???)and missiles are fired long before the enemy is within visual range.....especially with the F-22. Although...only Russia, China and USA have stealth fighters. Oh yes and most NATO countries have them too now.
@@beeg693
What makes you think F-35s radar "sees" stealth either? 🤔
Or F-22s for that matter?
@@Juan-os4hs That is a great question. I don't really know. To be honest I had to look it up. From what I could gather it is that cross section and time are the two important elements. It is a yes and a no. It is a yes because although there is a small return the pilot or the instrument can't tell what it is. Not having a big enough cross section return. The enemy plane can't see the stealth plane ( it doesn't get a large reflective frequency return) until it is too late. And no, because when it can see the stealth plane, the stealth plane will have already taken a missile shot. By then It is to late for the enemy plane to take a shot. That's my understanding. What did you find out??
@@beeg693
Given, if a stealth plane, can't "see" another stealth plane via radar... how can it launch a missle to shoot it down? 🤔
Then, it follows logically, that at some point one stealth plane will invariably stumble upon another stealth plane, IN VISUAL RANGE ≈ 30 MILES, and at that time, they will be within "dog fighting" distance.
That is however if they are not using AWACS or ground based radar, which, BTW Russia has already perfected a mobile g/b stealth detecting radar, which allowed Iran to shoot down a stealth drone (LM RQ-170 Sentinel) in 2011, and even before that an F-117 was shot down over Serbia in 1999.
Stealth technology was obsoleted in 1999, but the greedy politicians and military industrial complex IGNORED THE MEMO.
How many times, and how well, has this jet handled 🤔 against top notch adversaries - like the Russians? "That" is the true measure, is it not?
F16 is loved by all because it is cheap and capable!

My post a couple of days ago was remove maybe my comment is classified
Here it is again the story of celestial Eagle The first and only time a satellite was destroyed by an F-15 came on Sep. 13, 1985 when an F-15A Eagle (76-0084) nicknamed ‘Celestial Eagle’ piloted by Major General (then Major) Wilbert D. `Doug’ Pearson Junior took off from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, and destroyed the Solwind P78-1 satellite, which the US had only launched some six years before, but was having issues with depleted batteries.
A derivative of the Aim-120 AMRAAM missile, the Pentagon’s established long-range air-to-air missile, is once again being tailored for a new mission - this time the interception of Scud-type short and medium-range ballistic missiles.
But a senior U.S. Air Force official confides that the capability is inherently that of a cheap, rapidly-deployed, air-launched weapon for shooting down satellites in low-Earth orbit if the service or Missile Defense Agency were to order its further refinement and development.
Raytheon officials say they haven’t researched the ASAT mission and have no opinion about its feasibility. They do note that the AMRAAM derivative isn’t as large or near as energetic as the Raytheon SM3 that shot down an errant NRO
satellite earlier this year. However, they note that if launched at
Mach 0.85 at 30,000-40,000, the new, 358-lb. missile becomes much more capable against objects at altitudes of 30 kms. or more.
The Air Force general was much more blunt.
“If you put the missile in an F-22 and launch it at Mach 2 and 60,000 ft.
while in a zoom and at a 45-degree angle, you’ve got an ASAT capability against spacecraft in low-earth orbit,” he says.
This video is about the F-16 in case you missed that detail
