- This is the last video before we go on our actual adventure in Tanzania on motorcycles. I will tell you how we decided on Tanzania, what we need to go there and how I pack my motorcycle gear for the flight.
Feel free to ask anything about our preparations. We haven't gone yet when filming this video but I'll make a video after the trip also summing up our experiences and learnings.

Doing some catchup on my favourite Grästorp chanel, been working 14h days for the last 3 months and spending a lot of time traveling for work.
Nice episode, going to watch your trip. I actually been to Tanzania a number of times, but nothing fancy or on a bike. A 10 or so time border crossings between Masai Mara and Serangeti and some 10 days on Zanzibar.
Hard to believe you never been to Africa, Robert seems to be such a well travelled guy one would think he at least had been to Madeira or Canary Islands.
I enjoyed your interaction with the embassy and you getting ready, I should be more like you. I just travel all the time so I just take everything a bit too relaxed. I pack in 10 minutes way too late the night before I go. The only thing I am really sure of is my passport and my meds. Being prepared is a recipe for success.

Wow - this is exciting.
You should try and see Ngorongora crater, Zanzibar is cool, and Nyerere National Park if you want to be in the middle of nowhere. When I was in Tanzania (many years ago) crime was bad, hope it is better now.

Hmmmm - very very jealous! You will have a blast - the roads are terrible, so perfect for the ride. People are amazing, and you will have the culture shock / time of your life. If you get the chance and need to relax , get across to zanzibar - stone town and beaches are amazing..

Amazing video Robert, looking forward for your adventure. Just one suggestion on the helmet packing though. If possible, remove the beak and cushion the helmet as much as possible. Can't really trust the luggage handlers at the airport unfortunately.
I would take a helmet with me on the plain. I took my one next to backpack on my last trip. You can say it’s a hat if there are isdurs ;)

Much as I appreciate the efforts of TH-cam presenters, the video gear & work required to share their adventures is all the discouragement i need to never join their ranks. Another entire expense, list & load to manage, not to mention then the filming, editing & sharing it all. @NomadSweden Haha, well, that is a saying in Sweden, and it is true, most of the time..... actually, work might move me to Mexico... That is where I noticed that most anyone going ADV is going 1250RS.

Having been to Tanzania several times i can assurs you you will love it! A couple of points for you:
Flying drones in Tanzania requires special licenses since drones would make poaching wild animals MUCH easier. I brought mine and had to talk to airport officer for an hour in order to be able to fly it.
If you should run into any problems feel free to write le since i still have some contacts with local police and a lot of very helpful people.
And lastly, make sure to visit Lushoto, and absolutley stunning place.
Also if you are interested in doing safaris i may he able to help you too.
And try to learn some simple phrases in swahili, it will change your experience completley. As simple as how much is it and nowing the numbers will often get you 50% discounts.

Thank you for great input. I will leave the drone at home because I was too late to get the needed approvals. I communicated with them and they said I had no chance only 2 weeks before. So we will manage without. Lushoto is on our route so we will see it :) DO you have recommendations on what to do there? We will no do any "jeep safaris" as far as current plans goes. Will look up some swahili for sure. Thanks again

Interesting. I wish all good fortune on the trip. The batteries, see smoke just open the window an toss them. No issue if you have your seatbelt on, if not take a couple oxygen bottles and a warm coat. The first six miles of falling is pretty rough. Of course plenty of time to think about the landing. Maybe you could meet Noraly and switch engines with her. Rental place would never know until after you leave. Seriously I know this will be a great trip with many new things seen by all. You will do a really good job on the film. You are ready and very capable. Now load the locate beer app on your simcard so you don't go thirsty. Look in the mirror and realize how lucky you are. Be safe my Nordic Adv Riders.

It's crazy to me, as an American - the idea that any employer would let me take 24 consecutive days off to do a trip like this. It's really awesome that you are able to do this, very jealous! :)
Indeed. Sweden has 25 days/year vacation by law. If you are sick during vacation, the vacation days are not counted. Public holidays and weekends are not counted either.
As a people, we have sold all of our free time for the illusion of more money.😢

It’s the dry season in August but I do have my rain jacket and thats enough 👍🏻

Gosh - what an amazing trip AND inspiration at the same time Robert you´re giving to me :-) I am also an avid T7 rider and recently swapped my spare bike, a 125cc MSX, for a '23 300 CRF L. Now I want to have more fun going on sneaky trips with my best mate and motorbike-wingman.... we are also planning a trip to Africa, maybe next year.... not sure if we will do it with our own motorbikes or rent them like you do. The main question that comes to my mind is how YOU experience riding a lightweight 250. I'm really looking forward to your evaluation and whether it might become a second light bike for you too after the trip ;-) All the best for your trip!

🤩Again great video and I wish you a great great trip - looking forward to the film 🍿😁😁!! Remembered me on packing some years ago for a trip to New Zealand 😁. The only thing I would be concerned about is the helmet. I made 3-4 flights for motorcycle trips but the I always took the helmet with me in the cabin - was never a problem with the airlines.

Maybe consider taking the peak off your helmet before final packing as it could break if the bag is handled roughly. It could be safer in the main compartment against the side of the mosko duffel bag.

- this looks like a great adventure. I tested the same (fly and ride) and wear the bike cloth during flight as this takes a lot space in the luggage.

This adventure should be epic! You may want to consider bringing the following. A Swiss Army knife, wet wipes, a good LED headlamp, and a G-Shock watch instead of your nice Apple watch. It seems the police checkpoints are fond of donations. Or the adventure pro tip of wearing a Rolex, in the event you need an emergency barter for a flight out of the country. TIA! This is Africa!

@@NomadSweden ona serious nite, I forgot to mention a Satellite Phone for emergencies, and I would look into Emergency Insurance in the event of an accident. And water purification tablets in case there is no bottled water. Best of luck!

Why not have a spoked wheel sealing kit so youcan ride tubeles tires ? Have a safe trip!
We rent Honda CRF250L which are tubed.
I've never trusted my helmet in checked baggage. I always carry it with me. You are allowed a carry-on, plus a personal item, I carry my helmet with me, that way I know it is safe, and won't be dropped or take an impact. It's a big safety item, I want to make sure it arrives safely.
Have a nice trip Robert and other Nomads. Please report from Ndutu, Serengeti, the NGorogoro Crater and, if time, from the Masai Mara. If you can, bring a long zoom camera, like a Nikon P6000 or similar, because you will see a lot of wildlife and may not get very close on bikes. The Masai should be nice to Swedes, but don't get too close to their spears. :) Really looking forward to seeing the results.

@NomadSweden haha I fully understand that. I am still in reaearchjng what bike to buy mode. Cant decide. I am moving in a few months so should not buy a bikenyet because i cant bring it.
I am a beginner too, and I hear all the advice about buying a smaller bike, which i totally get. At the same time, R1250GS seem to have 90% of the market in the city where im going and they are the only ones organizing group rides etc. And if not GSs its KTM, Pan America Specials and occational Super Tenere, Tigers and big Ducatis.
Smallest I ever seen there is the regular 901 Norden, which I like but really like the Explorer better but never seen it on the market.
Everything is larger in America :D
I would take the peak off the helmet for transit ... Baggage handling can be rough :) Lycka till!
