Ed Parker was in reality a very nice man, he never thought of himself as superior to anyone just because he was the founder of the American Kenpo system. I spoke to him once, maybe a couple of years before he passed away, and even though I was in a Kenpo school not directly affiliated with his IKKA system, he took the time to talk to me for like 20 minutes. He had a "regular guy" way about him, he was easy to talk to, he told jokes and laughed, but when it came to fighting he demanded a logical approach, he demanded reason and logic in everything you did from a scientific perspective. He would call out his senior instructors right in front of the students in something wasn't scientifically right. A wonderful man, and very sadly missed.

Sometime in 1979, a movie called "KILL THE GOLDEN GOOSE" was released, which pitted Ed Parker's Kenpo skills against Korean grandmaster, Bong Soo Han (he also worked in Tom Laughlin's "BILLY JACK" movies, and was later used by director John Landis in "KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE" in 1977), as Han was a superior Hapkido master. Parker played "Mauna Loa", named after Hawaii's famous volcano, who is hired by a private figure who uses Mauna Loa's lethal skills to silence members of a private corporation, while Han played an LAPD detective assigned to the case. while the dialogue wasn't too impressive, it was great to see Ed Parker's skills in Kenpo being used in highly lethal and linear moves, along with Bong Soo Han's amazing Hapkido skills. the movie was retitled "KILL THE GOLDEN NINJA", which seemed a fitting title for a master like Ed Parker, who died at the Honolulu Airport in late 1990 at the age of 63.

Bruce Lee a good friend of Ed Parker and introduce by him to Hollywood and western martial arts community did a scene similar to this in Marlowe where he destroys the guy office but it’s not like Parker’s who takes out the henchmen first then demolishes the guys office. The other difference is guy behind his destroyed office desk chopped up in half by Parker, hands a broom and dust pan to his scared secretary guardsman and proceeds to leave out. While in the Marlowe scene Bruce puts on shades and hustles out of the office after demolishing it.
