Just discovered your channel. Love it! Watched your three part adventure on the Two Hearted River first. Marveled at your stamina determination and skill in overcoming so many blow downs and log jams in the Upper section. I have done that river way back in the 1980's long before the big fire decimated the area. It was a struggle then as well until you got farther down stream where the Rainbow Lodge who ran a small remote livery sevice had cleaned out the river down to the mouth. Have camped in the Mouth of The Two Hearted State Forest Cpgd. several times since. You remind me of myself when I see your paddle dexterity in the use of your skulling strokes, J stroke and especially the way you sometimes will skull/slice your blade forward on your recovery stroke without taking the blade out of the water. Saves energy, time and just looks efficient! I was a WW Open Canoe instructor for many years and have taught that exact paddle recovery to Advanced solo boaters from Georgia, the Carolinas, Colorado to Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. You do not see it done right that often. You my lady are smooth at it. Now I just watched your Sturgeon Day trip with I believe your son, Now I know where you have developed some of your skills. The Sturgeon is a very twisty, hair pinned stretch that will demand the solo canoeist to execute proper boat control, as you no doubt know. Have been to the Indian River area many times as well as paddled the Sturgeon, Jordan, and Ocqueoc rivers. Wife and I used to live on the banks of the Pine River in the Manistee National Forest near Cadillac back in the late 80's into the mid 90's. Have lived in the Yoop since 2000 and now live near Iron Mountain.

Loved this video Trina! Hearing your voice made it much more personal, and personable to the viewers. And what a great micro-adventure on the Sturgeon. I was envious! Great single blade control too. It's something I see very little of on TH-cam with canoeists, so I really enjoyed that. Thanks so much for sharing this side of you, and your passion.
Thanks for previously explaining that lack of narration can make some people feel uncomfortable. That was what I needed to hear and it helped me take that step beyond my comfort zone. I have had good response to the narration.

I was born to an energetic and hard working mom who let me grow up building forts and running free in the Canadian bush. I think they call that bushcraft now 😉 And yes I worked at a youth camp, but had the skills before I got there. 😁
@@HermitsOutdoorAdventures We need more kids outdoors. You and I are lucky our mothers let us wander in the outdoors. I only wish that more people were able or would allow their kids the same opportunity. I bet you agree that it teaches useful outdoor skills, problem solving, respect for nature, and gives one self confidence. I hope that your channel becomes more popular. I think it has the potential to get more people outdoors. If they watch closely they can also pick up very good outdoor skills to practice while they are out there.
Sometimes people are afraid of the unknown. If they are able to act on their curiosity and have a good outdoor experience they will do more. But I have learned that others prefer to see nature from a distance and that is okay too. 😉
Hey Lisa. Awesome. That Old Town is just the royalex Pack canoe. Its a fun little canoe for Michigan’s smaller rivers and streams. And the fact that I am only 5’3” and 110 lbs makes it fine for shorter trips. They haven’t made them in years.
@@HermitsOutdoorAdventures yes, I also have, it seems all the models of Old Town canoes they don’t make any more. Tripper, Camper & Hunter. 5’3 “ is normal sized. Same height as I am.

I really enjoy that part of the river. In the summer I see a lot of scarlet tanagers there
