The pianist is Joost van den Broek. He was the keyboardist in Floor’s first band After Forever. Nowadays he is a producer for mostly symphonic metal bands and artists. He is also known as Arjen (Ayreon) Lucassen’s right hand. Currently he is helping Floor producing her first solo album!
Piano was played by Joost van den Broek a awesome piano player from The Netherlands. A awesome cover for sure

Actually, Floor and Joost were together in the band 'After Forever' for quite some time.
Ann loved the first version she did with After Forever, and I'm sure she'll be delighted with this updated version. The intervening years show, in a positive way. Her voice is much richer now, and the experiences she's gained in the last 13 years add emotional weight to her performance.

@@davehertle Yeah, this is definitely her best performance of the song. So much vocal power. Not saying the After Forever or this performance is in any way not amazing, but the live performance is incredible.
This is excellent! Floor has done "Alone" well a couple of times before. This version is more powerful and mature, but still quite vulnerable. Piano is provided by her long time collaborator Joost van den Broek (After Forever, Ayreon). Floor's masterclass videos are a real treat, even to not so great singer as I am. She really knows how to communicate (singing, talking and body language) 😊👍.

Ann Wilson its in my top 5 female singers of all time and its not easy cover her , many singers tried and failled , but floor is a vocal beast , the perfection , my top one . A mix of janis joplin , ann wilson , pat benatar aretha franklim , stevie nicks , grace slick etc i love this woman, the only woman i know who can sing a phone book in chinese and brig an entire crowd to tears , love dedication and emotion . I love Floor's cover and fell in love with her voice since I listened to the classic Ghost Score Love live performance. I really appreciate your comments and passion for singing. I am considering making a cover on Floor's cover on Heart's Alone. I will need to practice a lot first. 💕

The piano player is Joost van den Broek he was the keyboard player from her old band after forever.
If you have people in the USA with in their name van then you know that their heritage is from the Netherlands, like vanderBilt or Grace Vanderwaal or Eddy Van Halen.
What about Van Gelder? I knew a girl with that name from school.

It's telling that this family is coming from the Dutch province Gelderland.
The Netherlands are actually the example for the USA.
In the year 1579, they united the provinces to the country that is now the Netherlands.

@@ZzKevZz yes you are Wright with this. This is that we see a lot of American movies here with subtitles. On school we learn English on the English way, but in England they are speaking many different forms of English.
So that makes it also easier to speak it on the American accent.
Here in the Netherlands we speak Dutch.

As far as covers go, Floor's is now the new original, which was actually composed by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly, who recorded it under the name i-Ten for their 1983 album "Taking a Cold Look!. Heart released their cover version in 1987, i.e. 4 years later.
P.S. It's hard to tell for sure whether Floor did this sitting or not. I'd say she's capable of doing it sitting down like she did the acoustic version of "How's the Heart" at Planet Rock.

I believe Floor recorded both “Nemo“ and “How’s the heart” in a seated position but both “Let it go” and “Alone” were recorded and then the Video created so she lip synced both songs, pretty well as a few Reactors did not notice, but I suppose they were being Wowed by Floor’s performance and were tearful! 🤣 like I was! 😢

Thanks Valerie, I love the historical context you gave here! Funny to see that there is really some explaining to do, like we used to explain opera texts from their settings in the 19th century. Here we are, 35 years later, needing to explain how a traditional telephone used to work in those days. Because otherwise you wouldn't understand the mental turmoil for the "I". I guess you're the only reactor accenting this!

FYI, Alone was a song by the group i-Ten. It was in their 1983 album, Taking A Cold Look. Hearts covered this song in 1987, I think.

I might be totally biased in the matter,but for me Floor has made this song her song by performing it. I love Heart and all theyr songs,but Floors voice and emotions brought into it............it just blows me away each time!
You can't compare at all :) Floor makes everything "HER" thing, because she neither tries to copy, nor is looking for an kind of comparison. She is just singing it like she is, like she feels it. So it's NOT a cover, it's an interpretation. Put it side by side with Ann Wilsons version 2016 Royal Albert Hall. Floor's version is perfect, stunning and ♥ - but so is Ann Wilson's ... Floor can't and doesn't want to catch THAT vocal grain of Ann and even less the grace of her voice aged at 66!! ♥♥♥ I love both and am happy that I doesn't have to make a choice because I am free to listen to BOTH as often as I desire ♪♫♫

Dianne van Giersbergen, Simone Simons, Charlotte Wessels, Sharon Den Adel and so on. If interested I can inform you about their beautiful performances to watch as well. For instance the cover song Somewhere from Within Temptation (Sharon Den Adel) with Anneke van Giersbergen as duo. Or Stabat Mater Dolorosa sung by Simone Simons together with Floor Jansen, etcetera ...

The other thing to remember, she is miming to this pre-recorded singing of course! Watch the lip synch and the fact her throat isn’t moving... otherwise I do enjoy other singers reacting to Floor’s singing. And I enjoy watching you reacting to songs Valerie....
Yeah I think it's pretty evident, she can clearly sing this live but she chose to do the video this way and do the acting.

Floor does a cover of a cover. The Heart version is also a cover. Original song is performed by the band I-Ten 1983. You can find it on you tube.

The classic example of this is "I love Rock n Roll" Joan Jett 1982, nope, The Arrows 1975: sadly Alan Merrill (co-writer) died from COVID in March 2020. Another artist whose works are frequently covered is the brilliant Russ Ballard, formerly with Argent in the early 70's His songs include "New York Groove", "You Can Do Magic", "Since You Been Gone", "I Surrender", "Liar", "Winning", "I Know There's Something Going On", "So You Win Again" and "God Gave Rock and Roll to You".

How often can you watch a master at their craft performing in their prime?
So here’s the thing. I hear people commenting on Floor seating and that she’s not really singing live. Just an observation, she sang Nemo , How’s the heart and shallow sitting and she performed just as good as this recording. So the fact that she might not be singing live is probably more for the benefit of the recording and nothing to do with her ability to sing and bring her emotions to the song. Just to be clear Emily, I’m not referring to your reaction.As always you are right on point.

Why does everyone call this a Heart cover?? It was originally done by i-10 in 1983.
because it's a Heart cover. There's no high belt in the middle of the i-10 song. The high belts at the end doesn't exist either.
Because no one ever heard of I-10 or this song until Heart did it.

@@stephenclark5812 the thing is that she's covering a certain cover, which is the Heart cover.
Similar to Disturbed version of Sound of Silence, when someone does that particular metall-ish version is refered to a cover to Disturbed - Sound of Silence. But of course the original writer always deserves to be credited.
@@stephenclark5812 No it doesn't. It has always been and always will be a Heart song. By watching this video and listening to Floors version, Heart is no where in danger of that happening, by any stretch of the imagination.

Absolutely failed in comparison to Ann Wilson. I've heard several other people cover this song and the only one who has come close is Carrie Underwood. For me this was an epic fail. Love you Val!
I only saw the live version here on TH-cam and actually Carrie was flat here and there. But the backup singer was amazing tho.
