  • I want to give a HUGE thanks to Replitech for inviting me out for a tour of their facility, they are a local startup to me here in Windsor Ontario Canada and it was great to meet everyone there, watch the filament production being produced and speak at length about the entire process
    I hope you take the time to visit replitech.ca/ and see what they have to offer.
    I know this type of thing isn't my usual content, and was definitely a learning process for me in more ways then one, but this was a video I thoroughly enjoyed creating and I hope you enjoy it too.

    This is the best “how filament is made” video I’ve seen, because of the in-depth explanation of the process. Always happy to hear about a new filament company. Looking forward to the full version on Patreon. Heading off to buy some of their filament now.

    It is very rare for any business to be so open and explain in such detail their entire process. One of the best how to videos I've watched in a long time.

    Thanks Nero. I'm all in on local manufacturers. I would guess there are zero ground up Barbie dolls in those pellets :)

    Great to see a new source of filament for the Canadian market! I would definitely consider purchasing their filament if they ship to the US. The quality and price are a perfect balance. I can only see PrintedSolid Jessie PLA being competitive on price. AtomicFilament's PLA is usually my go-to but that is about $30 USD a roll for a kg.

    This was so cool! Not only does this show big support for a local company, but we get a cool insight into how the bacon is made. Heck, this makes me want to buy from them and I'm in the States. Haha

    Was waiting for a while to watch this video because I expected just another filament line tour that stays on the surface level. What you delivered in this video was way more, an interesting technical talk about the ins and outs of filament manufacturing. Almost makes me want to get into it as well.

    The best/highest quality filament I have personally used is Prusament. How would this PLA compare or stack up against the higher end quality filaments on the market from your personal perspective? Would love to support a fellow Canadian company

    • @CanuckCreator
      @CanuckCreator  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I havent used prusament myself, i have used two spools so far and it prints well, and ive had no issues at all to report, nice colours too.

    • @Calebs.bowling
      @Calebs.bowling 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They both have the hexagon pattern on the spools. and prusament is good i have only used a spool of petg and I might be a little biased because it was made on one of my friend’s birthdays but given that you use the correct profiles it prints good.

      Unfortunatly most of what i recorded in the production area turned out to be unusable due to noise, thus the interview became the main focus with the floor footage being b-roll.
      Im actually planning to go back and make some filament real time using a smaller sized machine they use for test batches of filament, so stay tuned for a follow up

    Gives me a whole new appreciation for why filament costs so much, given how much work goes into extruding a spool to spec...

  • @reddbizzboss340

    Really cool video, but it's possible to know where they buy masterbatches? Thay are the same material as a filament?

  • @alanb76
    @alanb76 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Interesting. Nice to see this presentation get to a little more depth. Drying the filament after spooling seems like a step some filament makers skip, at least their walk throughs didn't show it, they packaged right away. I've had old rolls of PLA snap, perhaps they've crystallized a bit too much over the years...

    Out of curiosity, how would you rate their PLA against say, eSun PLA+ ?

    If it is good PLA the price is actually competitive, isn't it? I only know of Sunlu (a bit cheaper) and Creality Filament (sometimes 11.5€ per kg) from Aliexpress, which is cheaper. And I bet some people would pay for the bigger roll. I expected it to be more expensive because the product line didn't look like massive throughput. In Germany, some stores sell average stuff for 30€/kg

      If your speaking of fillamentum, it’s worth using for special prints.

    And this is why no matter what you spend on a DIY filament maker, it'll never meet the quality of what this machine puts out. It's not just a matter of melting and spooling plastic - it's a complicated mix of physics and science.

  • @thelightspeed3d712
    @thelightspeed3d712 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    OMG that’s expensive! Good for them. That’s pretty crazy.

    • @jacksoni349
      @jacksoni349 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You saw it is in CAD and not USD correct? If I did my math right, per kg it costs $21.13 USD. So really it isn't that expensive at all.

    • @CanuckCreator
      @CanuckCreator  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Correct, price is in CDN$, and also each spool is 600m of filament (1.8kg of PLA)
      It works out to be pretty dang competitive against our current offerings up here.

      @@CanuckCreator oh that’s interesting. So it’s on length not weight… my web browser shows $49 CAD… which I think is 39$ USD
