Micah has to be the most seasoned world traveler, EVER. By the time this kid becomes a teenager, he'll be a master Chen and food expert! Micah will remember and cherish all these experiences his parents spent with him. I think it's cool that Mr. Wiens takes his family with him on almost every trip he takes. Family is everything!

As a caucasian nz'r I can say honestly with no bias that a good Hangi is amongst the best food you can taste... every flavour intertwines with everything else because the vapour cannot escape. ......and the smokieness is just right. It's a flavour you can not describe.....only experience. it's next level.
I have to confess I had a terible hangi when I was in school and it ruined my impression of it for decades. This video really highlighted that it can be much better than what I was fed in school. Some parts look good but some I still would need to taste to confirm.
Maori cuisine is garbage, reflection by how primitive they were and are. Hangi literally taste like dirt and their beloved boil up is just a really bad soup.
Im south african born but raised in New Zealand now living in Australia, I cant tell you how much i miss this beautiful country. The Maori people are so welcoming and full of love towards everyone, the food especially the hungi is one of my favourite foods on the planet and i miss having it every weekend. So glad you got to experience this wonderful culture Mark.

Here in Chiloé Island, Patagonia, Chile, the indigenuos nations also cook with a very similar method and a combination of surf and turf as well. We call it ¨Curanto¨. Ancient Polinesian navigators influence? Most likely. Great show!
I’m Māori and I have been to Peru and had their “pachamanca” style underground cooking and I thought it was way better than a hāngi. All the herbs and spices and it’s cooked hotter and quicker than the hāngis I’m used to so the pork skin had a nice crackling to it. But I will say, this is probably the best looking hāngi I’ve ever seen. Especially with all the plants and herbs. no aluminium foil

Almost everyone wants to be like Mark Weins! Traveling around the world, eating delicious foods and experiencing new cultures. And also he can eat the local foods like a local and that is really impressive. For example, We have mohinga which is fish soup broth, def not for everyone. But I know he can eat it like a true local. Trying hard to be like him one day! Inspiring from every angle.

This is the best Hangi I've seen laid. The seasonings are phenomenal. Well done, my brother. Even though he is right that this is a cooking method that has been in existence in excess of 1000 years. Originally, the menu would not have included potato, pumpkin, chicken, lamb, or pork, and as he rightly said citrus. They all came with the European settlers, and have now become traditional in the last few centuries. As part of Polynesia New Zealand is worth the trip. Try Hangi if you come to NZ. It truly is a taste of the earth.

This is the best Hangi I've seen laid. The seasonings are phenomenal. Well done, my brother. Even though he is right that this is a cooking method that has been in existence in excess of 1000 years. Originally, the menu would not have included potato, pumpkin, chicken, lamb, or pork, and as he rightly said citrus. They all came with the European settlers, and have now become traditional in the last few centuries. As part of Polynesia New Zealand is worth the trip. Try Hangi if you come to NZ. It truly is a taste of the earth.
