Iceberg has always been a favorite of mine! He was a snow trooper who came with no snow equipment! All my friends had sleds, snowboards, skis, etc. I just showed up in the winter and slid down a hill on a shovel! He must be pretty badass to get dropped into a below zero environment with only a machine gun, right?
This was my first GI Joe ever (Funskool version sold in India) I grew up in the Middle East and yes we have a major love for air conditioning just like this Character. Thank you HCC for covering this character!
I rarely took my Joe's outside. I did grow up in an area that got a decent amount of snow and I loved the snow troopers as much as the desert and jungle troopers as well.
I grew up on the east coast. Philadelphia, New Jersey. We have snow, but I've hardly ever taken my toys outside. Iceberg is a top tier figure all the way!
This was the first ever G.I.Joe toy I saw and was able to hold. We as kids loved to play with Mountain Climbers. Not because we lived at the foot of Mt. Makiling in the Philippines, but because we had a tree in our neighborhood that we pretended to be a the side of a cliff. We made the Joes climb up with grappling hooks we made, while Cobra guys let rocks or boulders roll down. I was so happy when I got a ROCK VIPER.
I guess they attempted to compensate the lack of accessories with the paint apps which are pretty impressive. But then look at Stalker v2, holy cow! That is a top figure in all aspects.
I live in cali, and never get snow, without driving for an hour and a half to the mountains, so I didn't get many arctic figures as a kid, but I had this one, and he got a lot of playtime.... great fig...
Canadian here. My only arctic figure was Frostbite and at the the time I wished he had some media appearances. I did like arctic related episodes, Snowjob. I liked the Snow-Serpents a lot. I never played with my Joes in the snow (or rarely outside at all). It's either inconvenient to play with mittens, or your fingers will freeze. And the plastic gets brittle in the cold.
I'm glad you covered this one, HoodedCobraCommander788 ! I bought this figure growing up.I played with this figure with styrofoam for snow, lol. I think he's the only one of the arctic figures I owned. I agree that he needed a few more accessories. I think maybe a light green backpack and maybe Snow Serpent's snow shoes from the Battle packs or a set of Snow Job's skis and backpack. I also agree that the Battle Pack's dark gray version of Iceberg's rifle looks better. I'm surprised that the white rifle wasn't made the Battle Pack version.
Another Canadian here! Winters full of snow, snowstorms and ice up here in Quebec. I always liked snow themes for figures, was really fun to play with them in real snow, epic ice battles! I always liked Iceberg and his general look. Although Snowjob was way better equipped with tones of cool winter gear, my favorite Joe winter figure was still Iceberg. Great review! Good job man.
Love the snow troopers(I was born in Vermont after all). I had Frostbite and an incomplete Snowcat after trading with a neighbor kid, Iceberg and Blizzard.
I grew up in Southern California and the Arctic figures were the elite Joe Team for me. I always was super thrilled when a new one came in so I could add another to my Snowcat!
I grew up in north central PA where it snowed from around Thanksgiving through April, so snow was a major part of my Joes. I would build ice caves for my Joes to play in, which explains all the rusty screws on my childhood ones that are still around. I like Iceberg's sculpt, but not his accessory. After Snow Job and the Snow Serpent, he was really lacking. 1986 is one of the stronger years for figures and his lack of accessories was a strike against him.
Funny enough I grew up in Tennessee but as a kid I loved the artic Joes. Until this day snow job is the only original Joe I still have from my childhood. Always loved the white Troopers Storm Shadow too.
Iceberg! Right ahead! (Nailed it). Growing up in Minnesota, I remember Snowjob and Blizzard as two standouts in my collection. However maybe not necessarily my favorite Joe's. But I did like them more then some others.
i grew up in south FL and northwest Arkansas. I didn't have a preference with the figures. mostly i got my figures for my birthday and christmas so i didn't have much say until i started doing odd jobs on the weekend. Moving lawns, collecting glass bottles, recycling cans the usual stuff a kid does for money. Once I started buying my own I went with the figures that came with cool accessories or designs. The first one i bought with my own money was Footloose for $.99 at K-mart. Then Tomax/Xamot, Ripper and a battle accessories pack of that same year. The next several purchases were Fast Draw, Law and order and Techno-viper. In 1988 I was on my own when it came to getting figures. I still went for what looked good. G.I. Joe did have an influence on my decision in joining the service. I was in the navy, but the naval figures didn't play a part in that decision. Iceberg was one of those that i wasn't interested in because of his lack of accessories. snow shoes, skis, or backpack. something to help him out. overall he's not bad, just lacking in gear.
I too am Canadian and we got a decent amount of snow in the winter, but never played with action figures in the snow. Always made snow forts and quinzee's and sledded. Never a good skater nor skier. My brother had Snowjob and I though he was the bee's knees with all his accessories that he could carry on his backpack. In the summer, living on the coast, we swam in the Atlantic ocean and in the lakes around our city. Again, never played with figures in the water, except maybe a backyard pool or something. Now swimming, I loved my swim mask and swim fins and two of my favorite figures were Torpedo and Cobra Eels and when I had a son I bought him the Navy Assault Unit three pack of divers, with Torpedo, Wetsuit and Shipwreck, so I had an affinity for diving action figures. However, my first exposure to GiJoe was the HAL with Grand Slam and my preference for GiJoe figures was always ones that had removable helmets/headgear.
HCC, I love all of the arctic troopers. Living in Arizona, Dusty is definitely a favorite. Like Iceberg, I do not like the heat. Our 115 degree days are a bit much. I favor my arctic Joes over the rest.
I've never thought about before, but yeah, my childhood collection was shaped by my environment. Lots of camo heavy guys, but also a lot of pilots and air craft (nearby air force base). My Dad was a Marine in the late 60's to early 70's and that influenced what I got as well. Amongst my childhood friends and myself there were no arctic troopers, a Snow Cat that was painted black, and just a couple of Navy inspired toys.
I think some figures were regional across the US. I live in the southeast and it was very rare to see any ice/snow related figures in stores. Maybe because it just never snows here.
Another awesome review!!!! I liked Iceberg. I liked the green on white. I love the irony of him being from Texas and hates the heat!! Oh and I do live in an area where I get a fair amount of snow. Haha
I was a child of the Northeast and Iceberg was my Joe squad commander during December thru March. He absolutely enhanced playtime after fresh snowfall. And yes, the figure should have come with a backpack. What arctic personnel marches around a hostile environment without survival gear strapped to his back?
I don't know what you're talking about, but Iceberg is one of my favorite figures. Maybe even in my top 10. I love the artic figures the most really, anyway, and I think he's my favorite. Super popular!
we didnt get a whole lot of snow were im at eighter but when we did i liked playing with my iceburg outside but id often loose the gun untill the snow melted lol and yes i did play more with the greener joes even during the winter cause even then there were alot of green patches of grass but my grandparents also had sand like carpet and i remember pretending like it was desert but i didnt have alot of desert figures but dusty sure got alot of play on that carpet i can tell you that much good fun
Great review. I didn't have Iceberg as kid I generally bought the more of green base action figures we only really got snow maybe once or twice a year.
The only Joe I took outside was Ace, so I could toss him around with the parachute. Then I lost his helmet. Never again could I bear that heartache... As a New Englander, I didn’t really have a seasonal preference, but would have loved an Autumn soldier. Heck yeah, Autumn!
My toy preferences were not at all dependent on my real world environment (or perhaps I was drawn to fantasy alternatives). The real world environment was more inspiring for non-toy play. I've always lived in Southern California, where we don't really have seasons, and some of my favorite Joe figures were characters whose normal locales would be anywhere but here - snowy Snowjob, swampy Zartan, right behind you wherever you are slitting your throaty Storm Shadow.
I am from Upstate NY too! I spent the first six years of my life in the Albany area. Iceberg was my first G.I. Joe action figure, my parents got him for me since I really like the winter season. As a kid, it never bothred me too much that apart from his M60 machine gun, he had no other accessories. I would give him stuff from Battle Accessory Pack #5, and later the skis and crampons from Blizzard version 1. Since I got into customizing my G.I. Joe action figures, I am working on a new version of Iceberg with more accessories and a new paint scheme. I also want to make a custom version of his Battle Crops action figure as well, since the artwork on the packaging has him wearing a green ski mask and gloves, but the figure has a yellow mask and gloves for some reason.
you forgot to mention Sub-zero after Iceberg...true they did mention his from texas in gi joe media seson 2 with Jamaican accent and loved the background review of his characters
I wanted this guy but I could never find him I found all the others from that wave except him for some reason he was hard to find in the state I'm originally from excellent review my friend ...you know they do use this guy in "action figure therapy"...the first few are pretty hilarious but it's not for kids
Long Island here. Loved artic joes. Ironically, surrounded by water, don't love any of the water based specialties. But with he man, I loved merman most....go figure.
Boston area...can't say that the region effected my choice in JOES. Snake Eyes, Flint, Cobra Viper, and Low Light where my favorites..but yeah, we had some snow JOE time that's for sure.
I think this wave was the Transformers movie wave for G. I. Joe. We had a new(old) leader, new laser trooper, new communications guy, new big tank guy, new helicopter pilot, new commando, new s.e.a.l., new marine, new medic, and.... new Roadblock? This was probably the biggest new guy line up to not just take the first, but second and some third wave troops over in wave . Iceberg, however is no Snowjob, just as much as I like Beachhead, he's not Snake Eyes.
Oh yeah! We would get sometimes 70" inches a year and I lived outside with my Joes amd Hoth figures ...and lost a lot of figure outside in the process...until the snow melted and you found them again.
I could've sworn you reviewed Iceberg a long time ago... Maybe that was someone else. Anyway, looking forward to more of those wonderful ALIENS that graced the line late. Won't be long now. There can't be many other figures left to review.
I liked Iceberg, especially his gun. I do wish he came with more gear. Regarding the environment I grew up in, I liked Iceberg for a different reason. I grew up in an all white area. I really liked the African American Joes. I liked the diversity and always liked Alpine, Road Block, Iceberg, Doc and the rest.
I grew up in the Caribbean and most of my Joes/figures were all very diverse. I did have snow serpent and ice viper/cobra wolf (cause it looked awesome). I did prefer the more realistic looking Joes and still do.
To answer your question as to whether location influences preference for certain Joes, I'd say no. I'm from Michigan & the snow troopers are my least favorite. It is hard to aesthetically integrate them into my units.
No ! It was ice , some snow mud with car pollutions but no snow ... Maybe this night will fine ? Any way true winter start on 23 so I can wait still ... We have also some anti government protest in cites too ... Our government break the line & break constitution ... People fell anger , politics use emotions & push groups to conflict ... History happen again ... :( But nobody know how direct we will walk in future ...
So Ice Berg it's rather mountain trooper or infantry on snow uniform machine gunner ... Good is that they not named him Ice peek ... :) Sorry I am a big fan of Frank Zappa ...
Basic head sculpt, but adequate? What the heck do you want? Facepaint? Stripes all over the hat? Lol. It's a superb head sculpt. Man! You complain for the sake of it.
Why Hasbro not copied M 60 from Sub Zero ? By the way am think that snow specialist need something quiet that standard MG ... I can imagine battle in Sierra Nevada mountains or in Canada borders ... One longer burst makes avalanche ...
It's OK however am try imagine all situations when that trooper could be fight ... Also where is additional belt boxes ... it's pity that he don't have back up side arm too ..
Iceberg has always been a favorite of mine! He was a snow trooper who came with no snow equipment! I wouldn’t either I didn’t want to lose the guns and accessories.

I remember having iceberg. I also remember losing both his thumbs 😁.
It happened to alot of my gi Joes..
Iceberg and Roadblock were my first two Joes. I loved both of them.

Love me some iceberg!
I grew up in Ohio. Everyday snow day, my cold weather Joe's were there with me, in the front yard.
I don't know what you're talking about, but Iceberg is one of my favorite figures. Maybe even in my top 10. I love the artic figures the most really, anyway, and I think he's my favorite. Super popular!

Udstate NY. Loved playing with my arctic guys half the year in the snow, forest/jungle guys the other half. Scuba guys in the tub year round!!!

My 7 y.o. and I live in Ohio, and we definitely prefer the snow Joes!!! 🥶
Correction: I do, he doesn't.
I got the Snowcat for Christmas once, but there was very little snow. It would have been more fun.
I grew up in the Northeast, I played with and lost many on my arctic figures in the snow.
I wanted this guy but I could never find him I found all the others from that wave except him for some reason he was hard to find in the state I'm originally from excellent review my friend ...you know they do use this guy in "action figure therapy"...the first few are pretty hilarious but it's not for kids

Boston area...can't say that the region effected my choice in JOES. Snake Eyes, Flint, Cobra Viper, and Low Light where my favorites..but yeah, we had some snow JOE time that's for sure.
In a world of really bad GI Joe action figures Iceberg is a good one. Middle tier. We don't argue with Scarlett. Nice review!
I think this wave was the Transformers movie wave for G. I. Joe. I remember there was a joe that came with a Kayak and a rifle to mount on to it. Can’t remember his name.
Stalker version 2
Oh yeah! We would get sometimes 70" inches a year and I lived outside with my Joes amd Hoth figures ...and lost a lot of figure outside in the process...until the snow melted and you found them again.
great arctic figure, gotta wonder why they didn't give him some arctic accessories. and yeah, that machine gun is crummy
I could've sworn you reviewed Iceberg a long time ago... Maybe that was someone else. Anyway, looking forward to more of those wonderful ALIENS that graced the line late. Won't be long now. There can't be many other figures left to review.

That's a really interesting perspective. Thanks!

I also like the more realistic guys.
Another Canadian here, I also liked all the green real world army type stuff better.
working my way through your back catalog. this appears to be the least watched video so im starting here of course
Have you ever heard the electronic Headquarters?
growing up in NH I had all different seasons at there worst...as long as I was outside I didn't care which toys I had
To answer your question as to whether location influences preference for certain Joes, I'd say no. I'm from Michigan & the snow troopers are my least favorite. It is hard to aesthetically integrate them into my units.
Marauder Gunrunners did a more real world based machine gun for Iceberg that had a removable ammo box.
G.I. Joe’s with little or without any accessories; I would give them someone else’s accessories like backpacks, knives, other weapons, etc.
I was hoping for a turkey gag from your fridge.
Darn!
Well...nice video anyway.
... any relation to Iceberg Slim?
I love the ninja
I had him . He came with a white canoe
No. I played with them all no matter what time of year.
Don't worry commander current weather in Poland is rainy ice ... Snow could come in next week if you believe broadcast ...
Did you get your snow?
You could lay down your white gun in the white snow and
Hang on. I can't find my rifle.
Where's my rifle?
should of came in a two pack with Mahania
you should make a instagram for the channel
Would of been fumny if the door was locked lol. ........
So Ice Berg it's rather mountain trooper or infantry on snow uniform machine gunner ... Good is that they not named him Ice peek ... :) Sorry I am a big fan of Frank Zappa ...
Icerberg was very half assed for being an 86 figure. Not even a backpack, or skis.
Yeah cool fig, but cheap on the accessories
u forgot sub zero no relation to mortal kombat
Basic head sculpt, but adequate? What the heck do you want? Facepaint? Stripes all over the hat? Lol. It's a superb head sculpt. Man! You complain for the sake of it.
Your gun's site is broken.
Why Hasbro not copied M 60 from Sub Zero ? By the way am think that snow specialist need something quiet that standard MG ... I can imagine battle in Sierra Nevada mountains or in Canada borders ... One longer burst makes avalanche ...
I don't know. That was a good M-60. They should have used it a lot.
It's OK however am try imagine all situations when that trooper could be fight ... Also where is additional belt boxes ... it's pity that he don't have back up side arm too ..
HoodedCobraCommander788 Also Sub Zero have that M 60 was better made trust me I heaved that figure in my team in 92 ...:)
BLM
All time crappiest fig candidate.
