If you like the sculpt but not the deco, check out the 2001 version. It was almost a Night Force deco and came with the AWE Striker (and no accessories). That same deco was rereleased in 2004 with the VAMP and Whirlwind. The 2004 figure came with all his accessories in black. The package also included Chief Torpedo v2 and Big Brawler v4 and a carbine rifle accessory that wasn't assigned to anyone in particular.
He reminds me of George Takei's character from "The Green Berets" movie (1968). Just with cool shades, like if he joined the Joe's after Nam. Ahhh IMAGINATION!!!
2 things. he looks good with gung ho with the blue green paint. and if you get the 90s bazooka and a wal mart adventure series pick up with a bass boat. pathfinder and bazooka make great fishing buddies
Pathfinder is a great character if only they released him in the v2 colours ,anyway I think the weed eaters great and essential as it easily allows him to cut through tough jungle foliage. Pathfinder, Muskrat and Recondo...what a team up.

Was a fave of mine at the time bought as part of a Woolworth closeout sale in late 1990 got him Salvo and Metal Head all figures I really liked but didnt like the weapons they came with and didnt use the elaborate stuff but the color scheme on Pathfinder and look were really cool and back to the basics we all adored!
another great review. Everything was spot on. the color scheme is unusual, but it works so nicely. everything about pathfinder just pops out at you, sure not great for jungle warfare, but man those machine guns. pair him with repeater,rock'n'roll v.2, roadblock, tunnel rat, ambush, spearhead and max and recondo and you have a force to be reconed with out in the bush. yes, he is in my top 10. thanks again for the great review

HCC you keep making these more and more entertaining and I love it. Nice touch with your wife watching Sgt Slaughter. I have Pathfinder. Got him in 90. It was a great mold and decent color scheme, but it does clash with realism so much you almost have to forgive the designer's choices. Now that he is part of Joe history I just accept him, kind of like Zander, but way less nauseating. Great job.

These pants are uses by army & para military troops in Thailand , sometimes you can find in Polish paintball stores ... They are OK when you wanna nice look for walking but complete useless in Polish areas ...

You're too critical. It doesn't have to be realistic. Not every figure can be army green. That's boring. He's a cool looking figure with no negatives. Neat accessories, cool colors. I'm excited to get him next week. The last figure I need to complete the box art of the Hammer.
If I had this figure, I'd use milliput and black acrylic paint, and sculpt a black moustache (quite a thin one) [and I'd have to finish it with a sealant].
it looks like you could have the guns on the shoulders and still connect to backpack ammo case. so hang on hips and fire for one side and have other over the shoulder. gives greater range of fire compared to what you were complaining about with hip fire. also weed eater looks more like a limb eater with the multiblade weapon with supercharge from backpack.
Never had this figure either but strangely the head sculpt looks like me with sunglasses on. The file card pic looks like my grandpa with sunglasses on. That's some strange twilight zone coincidence there. Funny video as always.
Swamps are used by the Us military for all jungle warfare training. Black can work really well in a dense jungle by hiding in the shadows. Great review. You are right about the weedeater it isn't needed.
It is needed. Pathfinder uses it to quickly and easily cut a path through the dense jungle, instead of using a machete. It's not really a weed wacker, as it isn't angled towards the ground.

I'll second that and give a shout out to Shindaiwa as well. As a young man, I walked many a mile carrying either brand. Both are pretty expensive though.
That was a ridiculously great review! First, I don't like any of Pathfinders accessories, and I don't like the knobs on his hips. If I had him I would give him a machete and a gun; now he's a cool looking crazy guy. He's like Jungle Trooper plus the movies House and Evil Dead mixed well with Halloween candy! Can't say that I hate him. I like version two better.

I'm even more picky than you with the vintage ARAH lines and cap it off at '87 (some '88 & '89 figures are tolerable, but only a few vehicles from '87 onward). But the second coming of the O-ring figures from 1997 to 2002 have a place in my collection due to the paint changes. Some of the weirder color choices from 1986 on, are fixed with the later ARAH line (along with a few JvsC, comic packs, and exclusives). That might be an interesting channel to create, what sins are fixed between vintage ARAH and ARAH reintroduction.......hmmmmmm.
Do you find yourself being more interested in 90s figures since you have completed so much of the 80s? I feel weirdly attracted to them recently as well. Before I would laugh at some but now they are kind of awesome in their own right. I hated pathfinder as a kid. I think a machete would have served a better purpose. But again as timmer points out the DIC series was meant to sell toys to a new generation of children not play to the would be teenage 80s collectors. But there is something great about the figure idk what like you said... Which makes me wonder if you have some weird newly found attachment to these figs
Wait a minute Pathfinder is Asian ??? I'm Asian and I never saw anyone indicate he is Asian. I mean I saw Quick Kick, Storm Shadow, Tunnel Rat, Jinx, even G.I.Joe creator Larry Hama I know are Asian and there are indications in different Media now I am not a big fan of the DIC G.I. Joe but I saw a bit of the cartoon and they made no indications that he was Asian.
In that card art, he appears to have a thick neck and pronounced traps, i.e. a weightlifter, he is diesel! He would need to be to use his gardening tool one handed, lol! About action figure design, two pins at hips prevents him from sitting in some previous vehicles; Recondo's hat was a separate piece and looks better, the lower two thirds of his head looks too big for the upper one third to be in the hat; good concept on hip fired machine guns, bad execution. A rubber belt would have been better and would have allowed for shared weapon system. Weed wacker, Zarana anyone? Leatherneck said it best in the Special Missions titled Scoop. He told Scoop he better not give them away in the field. Joe's were complaining a camera focusing motor and internals were too loud...how about a weed wacker!?!?. I look at the shoulder rivets on the Joe's you review. No worn paint, no real playtime. It is a good indicator of the usefulness of a figure in a child's imaginative play routine. BTW, you have green blood, ergo you must be an alien. Your mind control powers work well. You are collecting GI Joe toys to better infiltrate a child in the 1980s. I see it all now.

I have found a few gems from the 90s, but it is still a very difficult decade to accept... as will be seen in next week's review.

I think the "orange" is supposed to be tan.
