💖 For those of interest ~ ✨ Here is the setup on this vid: Moog Music Inc. I have the Moog DFAM as my master clock and the patch is based on their “Tribal Drums” template which comes with the unit. The clock of the DFAM is routed into the multiple of the Grandmother then patched into her clock-in control. The other multiple is patched to the clock in of the Moog Mother32. This enables me to very easy scroll through accompanying sequences and divide values of time with the gate length dial on the Mother 32. Creates lots of thematic contrasts quickly and effortlessly... The same kind of time/clock fun can be had with the Grandmother clock tempo when she is slaved to the DFAM as a master clock. It divides and locks into different times with a flick of the wrist. If your piano chops can’t mirror a 200+bpm? No worries, just dial up the tempo knob and the clock will lock it in place as you play your favorite triad. Only thing that matters is the music. That’s what makes a classic synthesizer System like this the ongoing wave of the future. It allows those with musical hearts and minds the opportunity to explore the vast galaxies of music and sound with or without conventional technique. Ain’t no one judging, get in there and start dialing it in. Twist, turn, and shape the sounds and music you wish to make. It’s all attainable now... Ok... Here I have the Grandmother in arpeggio mode up until the end where I switch it to Sequencer mode so I can focus on the finale with the fx pedals. This is a wonderful opportunity because in arp mode I can play whatever chord shapes or lines that I feel while mirroring the tempo of the clock. Using the octave switch on the Grandmother not only changes octaves, but allows you to extrapolate the time once again in a unique way. Depending on the number of notes that you arpeggiate divides and decorates the figures of time and phrasing. When using your computer/DAW, this can get insanely fun and inspiring if you print a MIDI track along with your initial performance. Because the same rules apply, the MIDI clock from that track can then become the master clock for the rest of your tracks. It’s this kind of opportunity that can make you want to go to bed later and get up earlier to create and record music with your time available. Also on the Grandmother I have a gate from the clock controlling the LFO. This keeps my arriving UFO’s in a horizontal line as they break through the skyline into our dimension (inverted sawtooth waveform into LFO / Mod wheel control). Sometimes I will route this LFO wave into the inverter on the Grandmother and dial it’s potentiometer while increasing the modeheel. This allows each UFO to quickly shift destinations and psyche out the onlooking earthlings below. With a gate from the clock controlling the LFO, everyone still grooves. In Sequencer mode, this enables me to orchestrate sounds and create lush, rich stereo images of the synthesizers with this beautiful collection of EarthQuaker Devices I have on the front line. It’s crazy what comes to life when you incorporate them... Earthquaker Devices pedals I feel are head and shoulders above the rest to keep up with the sonic quality and richness of classic instruments. Nothing is lost. The low end doesn’t asphyxiate and higher frequencies do not get mangled and sent to the cutout bins... They’re hi fidelity signal processing pedals that can take any studio situation up to a higher elevation or absolutely Annihilate any large PA system performance. Trust me, I’ve brought full rooms to attention with just pink noise and the Pyramids running in stereo. It enables me to create an “album experience” live. Which is one of many things that continually excite and inspire me with music. I put EQD pedals to the test in with almost every instrument imaginable and every style of music conceivable. They’re legit. They can hang with anything and bring another dimension forward into your music or sound design. I urge you to try them ~ find me if you have questions. Love to all. lisabelladonna.com/ Here is the signal path to the EQD line: Mellotron M400 ~ EQD Ghost Echo ~ EQD Afterneath Moog DFAM ~ EQD Levitation Reverb Moog Mother 32 ~ EQD Space Spiral Moog Grandmother ~ EQD Avalanche Run ~ EQD Pyramids In this particular situation I have a designated signal chain for each instrument in this demonstration. However, there are many times on stage and in the studio that I will set up one or two pedal set ups that I have routed to their own individual buses on my mixing desk. This allows me great flexibility in advantage of immediate possibilities as the music changes and transforms. Also, and live situations you are forced to adapt to the room you are performing in. There are times where this also becomes a great advantage. If anyone has any questions about this particular set up please feel welcome to do so in the comments. Also my sincerest gratitude to the wonderful people at Guitar Center for their kindness and great enthusiasm. To Jay Daniello and Trent Thompson from Moog for their inclusion and support. My love to Jamie Stillman, Julie Robbins and EVERYONE at EarthQuaker Devices for being the most fun, creative, talented, consistent and badass group of humans to work with. gridsleep I am a “for hire” musician/clinician. Any feedback or reflections of the equipment that I choose to incorporate into my musical extraction is based off my experience with them. Musical instruments and the electronic devices that extrapolate them, are a completely personal choice. One of the great remaining joys of musical exploration.
Well - after more than 40 excessive years in electronic music, including all the different types and styles, I have to say that Lisa Bella Donna is one of the very, very few who really has reached the peak. She is one of the very best who have ever touched these instruments. And she is by far the best artist in this genre since 25 years. I'm honored to be able to listen to her art.
Edward, it may be your opinion, which is your right, but your choice of words is a direct reflection of your personality. Which is that of a dreadful asshole. Take your opinions and dreadful personality somewhere else.
Edward Godsall There is no intrinsic virtue in the act of openly voicing your opinion. You’re full of shit, where your opinion of voicing an opinion is concerned. Sharing negative thoughts, particularly unnecessarily, is more often than not worse than not expressing them at all. I’m guessing you’re wanting attention, and your ego-driven motivations are somewhere on the troll spectrum. I call bullshit on your whole premise that not expressing an ugly opinion is being politically correct. Is me not punching you in your face being politically correct. By your thinking it sounds like it.
Looks like an original Mellotron there with its key note sounds, this just generates huge amounts of intoxicating energy, incredible rhythms. Lovin it.
Just awesome your control of everything is amazing. The Mellotron brought back so many memories for me it took me back to the first time I became interested in synthersis all those years ago. Wonderful sonic soundscape.
thank you once again for music so incredible...so beautiful...i thought decades ago i'd never hear anything like this recorded...let alone performed live, again. wow...thank you so much!
As I've said before, praising you -- This astonishing, virtuoso performance should sell millions of Moog synths and Earthquaker Devices. Incredible "wild ambient / atmospherically nuanced experimental" style. LOVE it.
This is some beautiful shit. Straight-up Tangerine Dream, but done with more intent and without pointless noodling. I love Lisa's work in all forms it takes- thank you for sharing this wonderful video!
Wow, great jam/performance! Thanks for the great explanation for how everything is routed and synced. And... great use of the Mellotron! Love how you improvise the arps. You are amazing!
Wow - incredible Really impressed by your improv and layered sound and how you bring it all together Very tasteful suite Takes me back to the the 70s euro scene You have a true gift Lisa and thank you for sharing it Subscribed
Klaus schulze and Neptune towers. I love watching you crazily envelope sound and atmosphere like it's a cake walk . You've got the skills of the century. Watch out everyone, she's way gtoo good to just pass by and ignore. A classic and im new to all this
love it lisa! most definately what we try to do.........been recording similar music today, love all the FX.. all credit to you for your passionate work.
hey..remember seeing her and doing a little impro (me Rhodes, she Minimoog) at last superbooth. Perfect musician, great feel, great creativity, good vibes. thanks for posting.
Exactly the kind of synth and effects demos I want to see, well done. It's not possible to go to my local GC and have the same experience, but at least I can go in with this shopping list!
Extremely dynamic and expressive pieces! The harmonic and melodic expressions on these soundscapes is intense, something that I have not seen in a while. I'm also impressed with your ability to move on the keyboard, I guess studying piano technique is an essential part into making electronic music more organic and expressive. Like someone said in the comments below me, reminiscent of Tangerine Dream and Jean-Michel Jarre and maybe a bit of Conlon Nancarrow on the side with the player piano. I am really hooked into your style!
I just came across you, and your music is absolutely something else. I see your setup in 2021 is amazing. I’m thinking of getting the Matriarch, DFAM, Mother 32 and Subharmonicon. Great music keep putting it out there👍🏻
I know this is Live and all, but if there is some way to put this on Spotify I would listen daily (can’t have phones out at work). Simply awe inspiring and overall stunning. One of my favorite pieces of music. (Post Script - love all that you do have on Spotify!)
BRAVA!
Beautiful composition and playing! I took my non-musician (but a music fan nonetheless) friend Mike to EarthQuaker Day this year to hear Lisa’s performances. He compared her music to the soundtrack of Escape From New York and Rick Wakeman. I thought that was a pretty good description! 😁
Sounds veru TD - ish & the phased mellotron strings sound jarre/oxygen - ish , i like the punchy dfam background. You look like youre having fun. 😉 11:06 onward sequence sounded cool.
Just saw your work on the new Moog demo, and I am floored! Your music is innovative, but also brings me back to that feeling of discovery when listening to Tomita and Wendy Carlos. I look forward to hearing much, much more!

Excellent performance! And as someone who dabbles in synths/modular, this information is pure inspirational gold. Thank you!
tastedup Thank you for listening!!
Excellent write up. Now to read over and over again until I can mash it in my brain.

After many years away, I am loving music again. Moving performance.
Time to start mentioning her with the greatest of all time. I don't think anyone is better. I love listening to her music.
Agreed to the nth degree.

Wow. So good!
Amazing! Classic electronic music reminiscent of Tangerine Dream and Jean-Michel Jarre.
Tristan Weary 💖
Way better than Tangerine Dream and Jarre. This is the Music of the New Future!
For me this is far beyond what I've heard from Tangerine Dream, and more creative / experimental than Jarré. Something of its own, really.
Such a great creative flow. It started less interesting, but it sooned evolved into a creative high. So fulfilling.
