Great review! I will be checking out more of your videos in the future. I have never driven a 6.2L GM, but I highly endorse the 5.3L engine. I had a 2000 Silverado 5.3 that currently sits at 330k+ miles, my dad has an '06 GMC with the 4.8L (same block, different stroke) that probably will hit 400k miles in the next few weeks. Nice review. Much better than some of the big name sources who only drive these on a track or around town/highway. It's a 4x4 truck so it's great to see a legit offroad review. I haven't driven a 6.2L truck but I am excited to get behind the wheel of one. I have a 5.3L in my Z71 with 4.10 gears and my friend has a Procharger on his 5.3L Z71 that really makes some great power (12.4 second 1/4 mile) but I can only imagine having a 6.2L to start (and then add boost!). Looking at upgrading my tires from Cooper AT3's to DuraTrac's so glad to see they perform well in the mud.
Things I'd do to it, install air lockers front and rear, install Bilstein or Fox shocks, replace the stock lifts with proper off-road leafs and run 35s then put rock sliders. Steel wheels so no hard feelings if it get dinged.

Well under...when I got a new truck, I went with an ‘18 Z71 instead of the ‘19 because I like the square body design of the ‘18 models a lot more. MSRP was ~$55,000 and got it for ~$36,000. Heck of a deal on a new truck, and I love it. It’s a lot nicer than the 2018 F-150 FX4 (interior falling apart at 14,000 miles) it replaced and gets way better mileage than the 2016 Tundra Off Road I had before that (truck was totaled in a wreck.)
So excited to see this. All your reviews in Canada are awesome. Glad to see you tested it out as you always do, and it looks clean lol. Keep up the great work mate.
So basically if you want a lift and coldair intake under warranty, get a trail boss. Otherwise find a used z71 and level it and put good tires and you have a trail boss. GM needs to wake up and make an actual raptor competitor because we know that ram is working on one.
My 08 sierra has the locker and I love that about this truck. Along with my old 08 Silverado. Love the automatic locker for off-roading and snow. And I love my 285/70/17 duratracs too. They are good off-road tires for an all terrain tire The road noise I like but nothing much more after that.
I think the 5.3L 8speed is fine, with a 10speed it will be sweet. If you can save 5k+ bucks$ go with 5.3L over a 6.2L. Love the 6.2L as well but i think they could boost both of the engines power numbers.
I have the 5.3 in my GMC and its plenty. I've NEVER thought I didn't have enough power. Turn the stabilitrak off by holding the traction button down for 5 sec and you'll see what I mean. It's amazing that we live in a world were over 350 HP is not considered enough anymore. lol.

You need to do the conversion, not 1:1 with USD.
@@gpaje Ya, even at 55k USD, Canadians got a lot of credit for financing. You do know everything here in Canada cost more than down south along with much higher taxes so there isn't as much cash in the bank right?
You can talk that price down substantially or wait until there is a great sale like towards the end of the year on current models.
Thanks for the good demo of the locker. Nobody else has really given us that.
Kinda crazy to see a $71K sticker price. I got a Custom Trail Boss for $34K.
Bull crap. I just bought a 2020 trail boss. $53k for $45k
GREAT looking truck - the new 3/4 and 1 ton are awesome!!!
Best review I've seen yet, great job man!
Happy Canada n USA day👍Truck yeah I wanted you say truck yeah.
Me: Getting a used truck.
Car Salesman: Nice clean truck only had 1 owner.
The owner: 3:50
I have the 5.3 in my GMC and I've never thought it didn't have enough power. I mean over 350 HP. Anyway hold the traction button down for 6 sec to turn stabilitrak off and you'll see it has plenty of power. lol There's a reason they don't want you turning that off often. Definitely break your tires lose fun button.
Yawnnnn. The Tundra has had more power and torque since 2007.
@@pryme2013 the 5.3 is only their mid level engine. The 6.2 makes much more horse power than the tundra's top level engine
@@curtisripperger1313 yeah did they have that in 07 when the tundra engine came out? Also I think it requires premium fuel too. Pretty funny toyotas first try at a bigger V8 is actually still competitive today due to the sophistication it has. Might get a few less mpg real world due to it not having silly crap like cyl deactivation and start stop and its gearing doesnt help but it's still insanely reliable and has tons of grunt.
@@pryme2013 yeah it came out in 2013. I have nothing against Toyota. They do have good trucks. I'm just a bit Chevy biased so I had to defend them a bit. Lol
@@pryme2013 I badly walked a 18-19' Tundra in my 19' 5.0 F150 Lariat yesterday.😅
BAD ASS OFF ROAD VIDEO DUDE, THANKS FROM BEAUTIFUL COSTA RICA!
I've been waiting for this video
This is a good review not just driving into town.
Lawn mower sitting in knee-high weeds at 6:25?? lol
Hahahahahahah! Good eye!
Best review I seen off road in a while. Thanks!
Great video Stephen. Beautiful truck but 74k Canadian, yikes.
Yeah but you can get that same exact truck for around 48k American dollars. Sticker price don't mean anything these days
Yeah those Duratrac tires are kind of noisy around town. But fortunately at highway speeds, their pitch gets higher and much more quiet. Don't really notice them then.
I always say once you drive a 6.2 you’ll never ever pick the 5.3.
I allows say once a girl finds an 8 she will never go back to a 6
@@liammiddleton3064 once you have steak you cant go back to hamburger
@@hurricane8634 once you have a shake you cant have ice cream.
I've got the 5.3 and have never drove the 6.2 but I don't want my 5.3 lol. I would have much rather had the 6.2 but they didn't have any there. I just noticed your YT name and I also own a 94 SVT Cobra lol
@@hurricane8634 once you ground wagyu steak for your burger other people look at you like you committed meat genocide
I've done trails like that regularly in a '98 Corolla many moons ago. Never seemed to mind it either. Nice truck too!
2006 was my last new one. Wasn't getting the active fuel management bullshit. So many valve issues
You know you can deactivate it, right?
Have been leaning towards a Tundra, but GM is throwing out crazy deals, especially with the TrailBoss, which is the only Silverado package I like.
Great review. Love this truck, and the cool thing is you can get the base trail boss which will go through pretty much everything this one did for just over $40k U.S.. With rebates probably under $40,000.
@@jacobivy2854 you're right, after posting this I saw base Trail Bosses advertised at local dealers for low $30's. One was under $30k.
@@jacobivy2854 Agreed the 18 is MUCH better looking that this locomotive front end monster.
So excited to see this. All your reviews in Canada are awesome. Glad to see you tested it out as you always do, and it looks clean lol. Keep up the great work mate.
I love the front end but the rear they could have done better
Such a good job for TFL
So basically if you want a lift and coldair intake under warranty, get a trail boss. Otherwise find a used z71 and level it and put good tires and you have a trail boss. GM needs to wake up and make an actual raptor competitor because we know that ram is working on one.
My 08 sierra has the locker and I love that about this truck. Along with my old 08 Silverado. Love the automatic locker for off-roading and snow. And I love my 285/70/17 duratracs too. They are good off-road tires for an all terrain tire The road noise I like but nothing much more after that.
Great review man I just subscribed! And nice truck as well!
The 6.2 is just a toy. The 5.3 is rated to pull more and IMO sounds better. Tried both and ended up purchasing the 5.3 TB LT and couldnt be happier.
Would don't the other TFL channels do offroad videos like these
Agreed with the many comments below, your reviews are great man. Keep them coming.
I love watching TFL truck. You guys could cover the election and id watch it.
Excellent presenter! Thank you Mr Canada
Seems like it was moving pretty quick for 4low at the end there. Hmm
It has a 2.72:1 ratio. The F-150 and Ram use a 2.64:1 transfer case ratio.
@@hochhaul but has the 10 speed auto, which has a super low 1st for an automatic
I feel like I’m in a new Dukes of Hazzard… 2023.. just a good old boy…
It's amazing that we live in a world were over 350 HP is not considered enough anymore. lol.
@@loganholmberg2295 I have a 2017' 5.3 6 speed 3.42 and it's been very reliable but it doesn't seem to have the power numbers GM claims. It has terrible throttle response, slow shifting transmission, and tons of torque management.
@@mmholling87 yes & more yes but notice we are talking about a 8-speed & a future 10-speed. The hydromatic 6L80 is sluggish i tune them all the time. 8 speed is a different animal all together bro
@@UltraSS-nj8kd What's up with all the class action law suits against GM 8speed? Is it really that bad? Can my truck be improved with a tune? My 6 speed shifts terribly slow, and has harsh clunky hit when going into 3 under decent acceleration. I have considered the bullydog programmer. Is it worth it?
Great off road testing. Tims coffee sure packs a punch.
Why are they barely talking about lockers? My 2006 Silverado lt back in 07 had the locker and went just as far if not further then dodged and fords 4x4s all I had were bfg all terrains no one ever talked about lockers then years later ford and dodge is like WITH ELECTRONIC LOCKERS and everyone like wow!
How does it handle on plain old dirt roads?
Silverados back ends used to just fly up and all over the place in some potholes and washboards and I hated that. Sierras always handled such roads without a blink of an eye.
Rear end does get a little squirrelly. I think it’s the ranchos.
Is it me or is Canadian mud wetter than US mud?
Joseph Whiskey Beale it is because the mud contains maple syrup
Canadian mud has an accent eh
They just make little water puddles just to say it can drive in the mud but I'd like to see this truck handle a rocky muddy logging road while carrying 800lbs in the bed
Definitely not mud, just dirty water.
They say that about our women too 😂
So finally a 6.2 TrailBoss
Amr Al Khalili 2020
In a month or two when the 2020 Trail Boss comes out, it will have the option for the 6.2 and 10-speed.
I drive a blue 2019 chevey silverado z71 LT, Its nice
I just paid off my 2018 Z. Feels great
This dude bogs deep. I like it. Great review.
That's mainly 2 wheel drive off roaring in the south
My 2 wheel drive taco with lockers that I used to have would get me thru a lot of things, but as soon as I would hit an incline that was the end.
My '07 Dodge pickup had a great LSD in the rear. It would lock-up sometimes just pulling out onto the street. It did very well off-road, too.
Limited slips dont necessarily "lock up". This truck has a true locker.
