    At 8:12, those antelope (?) jumping the fence, along with that music & background scenery, was very moving.

    Does Jupiter die of thirst? Does he survive and make it to the end???
    Stay tuned to find out! 😮

    We met twice on PCT year before last, My friend Ollie gave you a mini rubik's cube! This year I was around the same area doing AZT from phoenix to grand canyon at exactly the same time. The backpacking world is smaller than you realize! Keep wandering! Maybe we'll meet up again or make it on purpose next year!

    ❤❤Loved seeing your videos of my backyard in Southern New Mexico. I've been a fan of yours for years. Looking forward to your CDT videos when you make them!

    Lack of water. One of my fears! Beautiful area but I think the scarcity of hydration in areas would keep me from enjoying it. Love the vids!

    Yay black range! As a child of NM, a brother of AZ, and an adopted Coloradan I so appreciate you showing this trail. Ultimate “flyover” country that’s super arid to boot. Much to appreciate and respect in the desert that so many would never know. Yay gila too 😊

    Whoa, that last water situation was bad. That's the kind of thing I would fear most on that trail. Since it seemed to ruin your filter, I'm curious what you did about it. I guess we'll know in the next video. You're a brave and skilled long distance hiker.

      When you'll be back home, Could you kindly recommand a (lightweight) filter that would handle this situation better, please ? Enjoy your hike and thx for the videos !

    Wow what a cliffhanger!
    I've lived and travelled around the area you're hiking all my life and I 100% understand how unforgiving this area is for hikers. There's not a big hiking culture here and the water sources are few and far between and not always something anyone would be thrilled to drink from.
    I'm having a great time watching these videos, but it also feels like I'm watching oddly specific content made just for me 😂

    That was a totally unpalatable combination of distress and anxiety. When I am in the bush I don't worry about rain or hail but I do worry about the wind bringing down big trees. Difficult to know when root rot is distressing trees to become fragile and susceptible to windfall. I have seen huge white pines fallen over on campsites in the location where I would want to pitch my tent. So far so good.

    That looks far worse than the stuff we had to get out of a cow pond. Clogged the filter as well the next morning I was cussing up a storm as I only had about a liter of water and 10 miles to the next water source. Fun times and hopefully a good learning experience 😊

    Obviously you have survived this mistake but I’m sure it wasn’t fun at the time. A good, light prefilter solution that works well in conjunction with the CNOC or similar bag with an open top is an aquarium filter bag. You can get them in 1, 5, 10 and larger micron sizes. In very dirty or glacial runoff water I would use the 1 micron size bag as a prefilter. They can be washed to remove the sediment and debris they collect. I use a 50 micron bag to collect larger particles before I filter my water in areas where the water is generally relatively clean and clear. They weigh less than an ounce and store easily with your filter and dirty water bag.

    • @JupiterHikes
      @JupiterHikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't mention in the clip but the opaque water you saw, had been prefiltered twice through a bandana! An agonizing process as it just didn't want to flow through at all, and clogged the fibers quick

    • @wanttogo1958
      @wanttogo1958 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JupiterHikes actually you did mention it. I’m not sure what micron equivalent size a bandanna filters to, I’m guessing 30 or so, but I do know that you have to use something in the 1-2 range to get the finest silt. I’m not trying to be critical; just hope to get the word out that there is a good, light and reusable/reliable solution for these situations I see especially in the West and Southwest. I encountered silty water during a several day hike a couple of years ago in the Grand Canyon and went looking for a better way to prefilter water. My filter wasn’t totally clogged but did slow down very quickly over just those few days of use. I was surprised at how much very fine silt came out and how much backflushing it took to get it to run clear when I got home. Your GE thru/hike was obviously a challenging one in so many ways; I doubt that many will attempt to follow in your footsteps. Thanks for sharing it with us.

    Milbank Filter Bag .. 1.5 oz .. load it up with dirty water .. and it will dribble out +90% clear .. then you can use your filter

    So, are you appreciating the hot meals or are you wishing your pack was a couple of ounces lighter? Just wondering….

    • @JupiterHikes
      @JupiterHikes  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Taking as much time to enjoy them as possible. Coffee, then oatmeal, sometimes hot lunch, dinner, and then hot chocolate. That said, I'd prefer my pack to be lighter and my daily routines to be not so involved. Just as well, finding fuel was a massive pain on this hike.
