man, i got to say... I'm fairly new to tanking as a druid (just got my first maxed because i wanted a kul tiran) looked up pretty much every guide on YT since all i heard about the mage tower for guardian was that it was so stressful! what stood out about your guide for me was the fact that you make it seem so casual and actually gave me the motivation to check it out for myself. got the EN trinket first try, bought some consumables and headed towards the tower... I'm happy to say that after 41 attempts, i am a felbear! PS: to anyone out there still struggling... it is not a matter of difficulty, it is a matter of getting down the mechanics of the encounter, YOU CAN DO IT!

I don't comment on TH-cam videos often. But I just wanted to add a comment here: thanks for this video. I got it in about 4 tries, after figuring out the interrupts in Phase 2. I previously tried ~10 times, before this video, and gave up after only rarely getting to Phase 2. The trinket is a HUGE help - makes the entire thing almost laughably easy.
I finally got it. I can't tell you how pumped I am. After years of trying on and off and giving up hope this video helped the most. Still had to give it about 30 tries over the past few days, and skull bash my way through the end but it's over now. Woke up this morning fresh and got it first attempt. A weight has been lifted I've wanted this for so long! Cheers mate!

Did this today after watching your guide, plus most of the other guides I could find. Fresh 70, heal pots, recommended rune buff, drums, and I did the trinket from the raid you recommended (second try, resto loot spec selected). No custom gear, runes, or food. 25 wipes, 1 victory. Mostly just spammed moonfire phase 1, gathered mobs on the boss when it lined up with trinket. Moonfire hitting 2 targets talent probably helped alot. Phase 2 after soaking 2 annihilates, I started eating the heal/stun orbs to chain CC the boss while I DPSed him down for the final stretch.
Okay, I was about to give up on the mage tower and then I saw your video and decided to try a couple more times, with the trinket you recommend. Man, I got it on the 4th try after watching your video (I think I had around 100 tries or maybe even more).
Although it seems your other watchers are a bit less casual than me, even I managed to do it after like 7 tries w/ your guide. Thanks so much, also for the kind and calming instructions :D

I came out of wotlk retirement specifically to do the mage tower in Legion for the Prot Warrior shield, got it, then quit again until dragonflight. It took me a few days in legion to get the MT down, the dragonflight one I've fully given up on on my prot warrior, it's vastly harder. They definitely didn't nerf it into the ground. And this is with ilvl 500 I got from being so late in the expansion. It takes me 30-45 seconds into the fight to get the boss's HP to where it is in your video after 2 seconds.
depending how deep you wanna go, I recommend getting the warr MT set as Fury. Spec into full self-healing. Also use the Hellscream Heirloom x2 and fill those sockets with the +STR gem. Put sockets into as much gear as you can and put +STR in gem slots. 500 ilvl doesn't matter because it scales down- so sockets are more important. BIS bracers have a socket. BIS neck has 3 DF sockets. Fury is easiest Warr MT by far, some say the easiest MT.
Thank you much followed your guide and got it in five tries without the seed trinket. Incapaciting roar helped if I got behind on the purple elementals who's cast can quickly kill you.
Nice guide. Done it after 20 tries as level 61. It wasn't so clean got knocked back at 0.50 % but my party killed him and still got the achievement nice.

When you are randomly one-shotted, you probably have too many stacks of the DND aura around Variss- it lowers your HP allowing you to get 1shot. I think you should run out at 3, 4 or 5 stacks to keep your HP manageable. All the mobs in here aggro onto Velen first. You have to pick up aggro from everything away from Velen or he will die. Watch my video again, pause it and rewind at certain spots if you have to :)))
Thanks! I think there's a lot of hype around the mage tower challenges, but they're really not all that, and a lot of ppl said they got the skin from my vid because of my style, so that's really fulfilling!
I did it finally! After way too many attempts... I used current food, drums, flask and rune from the consumables for mage tower and I used your talents but adjusted for 10.1.7 it still took me several attempts because I was making small mistakes that were costing me the run. Not paying attention to my health cause Velen doesn't heal for shit, not moving out of abyssal cone in time for a couple of them. Not using enough CDs for annihilation, and one time I missed the kick for Kruul's cast. BUT I FINALLY DID IT thank you very much and I hope I never have to come back to the mage tower ever again. Give me a M+20 ANY DAY but screw that mage tower.
I remember clearing this during Legion. My druid actually ended up dying before the end. But as long as Velen is alive, and you don't release, the instance continues. My dots killed him, and all I had to do was wait till the RP finished and I was transported out. I don't even use the bear MT appearance. I ended up using the Balance of Power appearance for bear cause it matches the MT appearance for feral. Now I have to do it all over again for the fel bear and the spelltome mount.
I am curious as to why that Seed is the best trinket for all the mage Tower...I did finish it on Druid without any enchant or pot or food or drums. In P1 I went to the Infernals, bashing them and throwing a procc Moonfire on the Lich in the center. The interesting thing is, on my Paladin I have a huge issue to kill the 4 adds, they always run strait up to Velen, but on the Druid they always went for me. I guess the heal you get from Arcane damage from the Moonfire makes them auto aggro you. The most important part is, in P2 that Kruul CAN'T get a heal off, if he does you never be able to kill him as there are more and ever more adds spawning the longer the fight goes.
You make it look so easy. I get stressed out and panic. Had to edit ... I got 2 of the Ravaged Seed Pod on my first run LFR. Never really that lucky. But hey Thought I would mention it for others.

Interesting. I keep meaning to since having upgraded my computer a couple months ago to knock this out. I have a ton of druids (one is level 70, most are 60+) and this one looks cool though I prefer the original skin(s) slightly. I could see doing DBM and WA for this.
I do the panicky button mash... Its taken a few tries but I got to phase two and am a lot calmer thanks to this guide. I'm a hunter main so... lol this is a bit new to me.

Thanks master for the guide!! I made it with the PS4 controller (I only play wow with ocntroller) ....many attempts.. in the end you enter the loop and until you beat it you won't get out. But the reward was worth it.
The original was such a pain back in the day, the only thing that challenging for me up until then was the green fire for locks which I ended up dying at 1% but my enslaved demon killed him for me

Thanks man, that means a lot to me right now :) :) Any blue or higher quality neckpiece in DF can have 3 sockets, it's the standard for character/push progression. You need to add the "Settings" you buy in AH, bronze, silver, gold. If your next has zero sockets, you need to put in a bronze Setting minimum. If your neck has 1 socket, you need to put in a silver Setting minimum. If your neck already has two sockets, to get the third, you must use a gold quality Setting. This system makes DF the BIS necks for Mage Tower as far as I'm aware. As far as I know, silver Settings in AH are cheaper than bronze, so I tend to buy a bunch of them, and a few gold Settings for any time I upgrade my neck. You can use the cheaper silver to cover the bronze requirement. Does that make sense? It's an unnecessarily convoluted system that not many people know about.
And here is the character in the video with the neck and head in the video. But in armory I have all really good/OP Mage Tower gear, good for feral or Bear. worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-us/character/us/skullcrusher/theronwood Just wowhead/google those items. I think I got most of them by turning off xp at a specific level(45?) and gettings the socketed gear from dungeons in chromie time. The rings are from my JC with Marks of ilvl whatever those are called. I put too much work into this gear, it's not necessary in DF, this was overkill for even SL Mage Tower. edit: I believe some of these enchs are not possible now, like the shoulder ench. Bring a TWW feast, it is OP right now until it gets nurfed, which we assume will be soon. You can also put lots of sockets in your gear, rings get +2 sockets in TWW. But I think the TWW feast is enough to cheese this encounter for most ppl.
Take your high ilvl gear and put it in your bank. Use only low ilvl gear for the encounter (buy the old, low ilvl PvP honor set gear) the encounter scales based on your ilvl.
He’s saying it’s gotten so easy you don’t need a set for it. In shadowlands people were farming for gear with sockets even as gear from bc could be cheesed via group synch to be bis for it.
I wish I saw this video while doing my attempting. So many failed attempts at 2%, another at 8% an the rest of the time 10-15%'s making me lose my mind. I must have done this 50-60 times. Around 8k in repairs attempting. Using Drums, buffs, everything. I'll try an get this trinket, an then give this an attempt again. I'm sure it's been changed in 10.2 because you can't burst down him that much in moonkin anymore, also 458 tank gear an couldnt clear this. The mechanics are grea once you get phase one down, but the adds pile up an by phase 2, you got 3 fire guys, an the adds that just blow your hp up if you dont roar to disrupt are brutal. When it comes again ill be ready, with this trinket an hopefully it will help with add spawns.
@@BusJustice I have horribile luck lol, I'll be giving it an attempt on LFR/normal to try an get the trinket. Last week no luck though on it. I might even grind out shadowland enchants to go on gear to help aswell. I want this form so bad but I'm just mentally broken by it.
Thx for the video, I think its the best one out there for 10.1+. I still haven't finished it, I die at 13% in P2. I have the trinket and spec'd for the higher spell dmg. When I get to the first twisted reflection, I stop it with bash but he casts it again right away so I have to use my Incapacitate roar or a white orb. Is that supposed to happen?
yes, you have to use specifically interrupt, so Skull Bash. You can't use a stop or stun instead or he'll recast. I believe the white orb also works to stop him from casting again
They go towards aggro, initially velen for healing aggro. For 1 set of adds use trinket, for other set of adds use lunar beam and tighten up from there :)))
noob here. using the raid finder, it only drops loot once. Then, when running out, it just ports you have to Dal. I think I gotta walk all the way there if I'm gonna do it on different difficulties.
Couldnt get the trink to drop on any of the 4 tries with bonus rolls, tried to do the challenge without it, and man, maybe im trash but I kept getting Wrecked.

@@BusJustice Wanna add onto his but i'll say both, i think Prepatch fucked the scaling maybe? i've done it multiple times the past few days with both DF Raid gear and stupid farmer SoO/ICCWeapon gear and also ran the Seed Pod with it, getting absolutely obliterated, hell sometimes Kruul (the few times i reach him) just outright one shots through mitigations on the first Annihilates, also the nether abberations seem chunkier as well now as now they seem to live longer than prior to prepatch for me, really regret not pushing this before prepatch dropped :( Also i wanted to add a bonus to your vid that no guides whatsoever add, the two fire rings in DF, batshit amazing and proc within the raid and can be given a socket each while DF is still up, nice bonus if you can do fire damage but even then can't do the fight no matter how well i do. Also the tank nerf might also be fucking it majorly too. Any advice or ideas would be amazing right now, cause only reason i'm even reaching Kruul is because of Seed Pod and Fyrakks Heart trinkets.
@@DamianBloodkil I would say if you're getting to Kruul you just have to keep it up and hopefully tighten up. Mage Tower is about the grind usually, so just keep at it, know your interrupts and defensives for kruul like muscle memory. Maybe watch this vid again and it might have something you missed that you can tighten. There's a lot going on in the tank Mage Tower!!
@BusJustice Gave it a few more tries and still painful to even reach him due to the Nether Abberations solely, the rest is fine but they're the biggest issue of P1 clearing atm cause they dont die as fast as they did before prepatch. Did all mage towers in Legion but struggling like all hell in TWW prepatch. EDIT: So i think the cause of this is Blizzards weird desire to have all previous content in recent expansions get buffed each new expansion prepatch possibly, only reason i can see the sudden change to the balance in there other than the big tank nerfs.
I still can’t do the balance one without dying at around the halfway mark. Did everything others said to do and nothing works. Gave up because I stopped caring to die and waste gold on repairs. I can run a mythic plus key but can’t do the balance one. The feral one was easier by a lot.
Wasn't able to get that trinket - not sure if it matters but I keep getting killed pretty easily over and over again. And when I don't die Velen dies and the encounter is over - you didnt really seem to do anything for him so I'm really not sure what was magic about your run but I can't reproduce.
it's multiple runs. Be Feral loot spec for trinket, you want it big time. the ghosts are what doing dmg to velen if you're interrupting Varris appropriately. Moonfire everything, all the time. As soon as ghosts spawn/RP, moonfire them, they're come right to you, then bear aoe them down before they start casting. Just keep at it man, tighten it up, you got this.
Just keep going until it becomes muscle memory, then which shaves off reaction time. Many will tell you 10 attempts isn’t many, just keep going and if you know you failed, use a LeaveParty(); macro to save some time and durability.
Ive recently made a druid tank amd i want this one. Where exactly is the mage tower? So I can do this. Do I have to do this alone at 70 or can I take a group at a lower level?
I'm new to WOW/Druid and tanks in general. I love the horn/countdown is it an addon? I've been trying this myself but I can't even do 5% health before I die to that 1st boss.
I believe that is DBM addon from Curseforge and you have to make sure you have the legion pack installed. When you have that, open DBM and ensure it'll load, just poke around. Then just interrupt that first boss at the right time, collect/kill adds, moonfire everything, eyes, adds, and you'll be good to go.
If you are getting 1shot by adds you are doing something fundamentally wrong. My guess with the limited information you gave, is you’re getting more than 6 stacks of death aura which means you should watch this video.
I'm not doing half the damage this you're doing...got the pod and everything. Things in your video just seem to die so fast but everything stays up for way too long for me.
Keep practicing, get into position to aoe the ghosts asap, trinket for 1 set of ghosts and lunar beam other set. Alternate those, and do your melee aoe as well, and keep moon fire on as many things as possible.
any ideas why you might not be doing enough dps? You have lunar beam? Moonfiring everythere? Have trinket? Have leg ench? high Versatily? 3 gem slots in neck?
I got the trinket, solo, normal, with Resto loot setting. FYI

A lot of the effects we couldn’t use in shadowlands are talents now so it helps a lot. Like havoc dh having collective anguish matters a lot

I did it finally! After way too many attempts... I used current food, drums, flask and rune from the consumables for mage tower and I used your talents but adjusted for 10.1.7 it still took me several attempts because I was making small mistakes that were costing me the run. Not paying attention to my health cause Velen doesn't heal for shit, not moving out of abyssal cone in time for a couple of them. Not using enough CDs for annihilation, and one time I missed the kick for Kruul's cast. BUT I FINALLY DID IT thank you very much and I hope I never have to come back to the mage tower ever again. Give me a M+20 ANY DAY but screw that mage tower.

I remember clearing this during Legion. My druid actually ended up dying before the end. But as long as Velen is alive, and you don't release, the instance continues. My dots killed him, and all I had to do was wait till the RP finished and I was transported out. I don't even use the bear MT appearance. I ended up using the Balance of Power appearance for bear cause it matches the MT appearance for feral. Now I have to do it all over again for the fel bear and the spelltome mount.
I am curious as to why that Seed is the best trinket for all the mage Tower...I did finish it on Druid without any enchant or pot or food or drums. In P1 I went to the Infernals, bashing them and throwing a procc Moonfire on the Lich in the center. The interesting thing is, on my Paladin I have a huge issue to kill the 4 adds, they always run strait up to Velen, but on the Druid they always went for me. I guess the heal you get from Arcane damage from the Moonfire makes them auto aggro you. The most important part is, in P2 that Kruul CAN'T get a heal off, if he does you never be able to kill him as there are more and ever more adds spawning the longer the fight goes.

Interesting. I keep meaning to since having upgraded my computer a couple months ago to knock this out. I have a ton of druids (one is level 70, most are 60+) and this one looks cool though I prefer the original skin(s) slightly. I could see doing DBM and WA for this.

The original was such a pain back in the day, the only thing that challenging for me up until then was the green fire for locks which I ended up dying at 1% but my enslaved demon killed him for me

Any blue or higher quality neckpiece in DF can have 3 sockets, it's the standard for character/push progression. You need to add the "Settings" you buy in AH, bronze, silver, gold. If your next has zero sockets, you need to put in a bronze Setting minimum. If your neck has 1 socket, you need to put in a silver Setting minimum. If your neck already has two sockets, to get the third, you must use a gold quality Setting. This system makes DF the BIS necks for Mage Tower as far as I'm aware. As far as I know, silver Settings in AH are cheaper than bronze, so I tend to buy a bunch of them, and a few gold Settings for any time I upgrade my neck. You can use the cheaper silver to cover the bronze requirement. Does that make sense? It's an unnecessarily convoluted system that not many people know about.
And here is the character in the video with the neck and head in the video. But in armory I have all really good/OP Mage Tower gear, good for feral or Bear. worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-us/character/us/skullcrusher/theronwood Just wowhead/google those items. I think I got most of them by turning off xp at a specific level(45?) and gettings the socketed gear from dungeons in chromie time. The rings are from my JC with Marks of ilvl whatever those are called. I put too much work into this gear, it's not necessary in DF, this was overkill for even SL Mage Tower. edit: I believe some of these enchs are not possible now, like the shoulder ench. Bring a TWW feast, it is OP right now until it gets nurfed, which we assume will be soon.
You can also put lots of sockets in your gear, rings get +2 sockets in TWW.
But I think the TWW feast is enough to cheese this encounter for most ppl.
Take your high ilvl gear and put it in your bank. Use only low ilvl gear for the encounter (buy the old, low ilvl PvP honor set gear) the encounter scales based on your ilvl.
He’s saying it’s gotten so easy you don’t need a set for it. In shadowlands people were farming for gear with sockets even as gear from bc could be cheesed via group synch to be bis for it.

So many failed attempts at 2%, another at 8% an the rest of the time 10-15%'s making me lose my mind.

I'll try an get this trinket, an then give this an attempt again. I'm sure it's been changed in 10.2 because you can't burst down him that much in moonkin anymore, also 458 tank gear an couldnt clear this. The mechanics are grea once you get phase one down, but the adds pile up an by phase 2, you got 3 fire guys, an the adds that just blow your hp up if you dont roar to disrupt are brutal.
When it comes again ill be ready, with this trinket an hopefully it will help with add spawns.

@@BusJustice I have horribile luck lol, I'll be giving it an attempt on LFR/normal to try an get the trinket. Last week no luck though on it. I might even grind out shadowland enchants to go on gear to help aswell.

Thx for the video, I think its the best one out there for 10.1+. I still haven't finished it, I die at 13% in P2. I have the trinket and spec'd for the higher spell dmg. When I get to the first twisted reflection, I stop it with bash but he casts it again right away so I have to use my Incapacitate roar or a white orb. Is that supposed to happen?
yes, you have to use specifically interrupt, so Skull Bash. You can't use a stop or stun instead or he'll recast. I believe the white orb also works to stop him from casting again
Apparently we can't use Convoke in the Mage Tower anymore. Still seems easy enough though.

They go towards aggro, initially velen for healing aggro. For 1 set of adds use trinket, for other set of adds use lunar beam and tighten up from there :)))
noob here. using the raid finder, it only drops loot once. Then, when running out, it just ports you have to Dal. I think I gotta walk all the way there if I'm gonna do it on different difficulties.

Couldnt get the trink to drop on any of the 4 tries with bonus rolls, tried to do the challenge without it, and man, maybe im trash but I kept getting Wrecked.

It’s still available, could have been an instance problem at that time. Beginning of this season there were instance problems for a day or two.
How do you get the airhorn? I have all of those downloaded and it still wont make noise when they start casting

@@BusJustice Wanna add onto his but i'll say both, i think Prepatch fucked the scaling maybe? i've done it multiple times the past few days with both DF Raid gear and stupid farmer SoO/ICCWeapon gear and also ran the Seed Pod with it, getting absolutely obliterated, hell sometimes Kruul (the few times i reach him) just outright one shots through mitigations on the first Annihilates, also the nether abberations seem chunkier as well now as now they seem to live longer than prior to prepatch for me, really regret not pushing this before prepatch dropped :(
Also i wanted to add a bonus to your vid that no guides whatsoever add, the two fire rings in DF, batshit amazing and proc within the raid and can be given a socket each while DF is still up, nice bonus if you can do fire damage but even then can't do the fight no matter how well i do.
Also the tank nerf might also be fucking it majorly too.
Any advice or ideas would be amazing right now, cause only reason i'm even reaching Kruul is because of Seed Pod and Fyrakks Heart trinkets.
@@DamianBloodkil I would say if you're getting to Kruul you just have to keep it up and hopefully tighten up. Mage Tower is about the grind usually, so just keep at it, know your interrupts and defensives for kruul like muscle memory. Maybe watch this vid again and it might have something you missed that you can tighten. There's a lot going on in the tank Mage Tower!!
@BusJustice Gave it a few more tries and still painful to even reach him due to the Nether Abberations solely, the rest is fine but they're the biggest issue of P1 clearing atm cause they dont die as fast as they did before prepatch.
Did all mage towers in Legion but struggling like all hell in TWW prepatch.
EDIT: So i think the cause of this is Blizzards weird desire to have all previous content in recent expansions get buffed each new expansion prepatch possibly, only reason i can see the sudden change to the balance in there other than the big tank nerfs.

I still can’t do the balance one without dying at around the halfway mark. Did everything others said to do and nothing works. Gave up because I stopped caring to die and waste gold on repairs. I can run a mythic plus key but can’t do the balance one. The feral one was easier by a lot.

It’s the eyeballs. Moonfire them once, or twice if you have time. If they finish their cast and you’re not facing them, they knock you back!

Wasn't able to get that trinket - not sure if it matters but I keep getting killed pretty easily over and over again. And when I don't die Velen dies and the encounter is over - you didnt really seem to do anything for him so I'm really not sure what was magic about your run but I can't reproduce.
it's multiple runs. Be Feral loot spec for trinket, you want it big time. the ghosts are what doing dmg to velen if you're interrupting Varris appropriately. Moonfire everything, all the time. As soon as ghosts spawn/RP, moonfire them, they're come right to you, then bear aoe them down before they start casting. Just keep at it man, tighten it up, you got this.
trinket/aoe melee one set of ghosts, then Lunar beam/aoe melee the next set, and alternate, they will always die fast.

10 Attempts and Ive followed everything you have done in this, still cant get it yet cant even get him under 50%
Just keep going until it becomes muscle memory, then which shaves off reaction time. Many will tell you 10 attempts isn’t many, just keep going and if you know you failed, use a LeaveParty(); macro to save some time and durability.

I'm new to WOW/Druid and tanks in general. I love the horn/countdown is it an addon? I've been trying this myself but I can't even do 5% health before I die to that 1st boss.
I believe that is DBM addon from Curseforge and you have to make sure you have the legion pack installed. When you have that, open DBM and ensure it'll load, just poke around. Then just interrupt that first boss at the right time, collect/kill adds, moonfire everything, eyes, adds, and you'll be good to go.
this must have been changed since 10.1....the adds insta kill you through defensives
If you are getting 1shot by adds you are doing something fundamentally wrong. My guess with the limited information you gave, is you’re getting more than 6 stacks of death aura which means you should watch this video.

I'm not doing half the damage this you're doing...got the pod and everything. Things in your video just seem to die so fast but everything stays up for way too long for me.
Keep practicing, get into position to aoe the ghosts asap, trinket for 1 set of ghosts and lunar beam other set. Alternate those, and do your melee aoe as well, and keep moon fire on as many things as possible.
I just dont do enough damage in p2. Infernals up like crazy everywhere
any ideas why you might not be doing enough dps? You have lunar beam? Moonfiring everythere? Have trinket? Have leg ench? high Versatily? 3 gem slots in neck?
