This is great! Just started adding figures to my S.H. Figurarts collection. The series descriptions were really good. I went on an Ebay spending spree last year and the only thing I searched off of way "ichiban kuji" and "masterlise". This video really cleared up what I got into. Also clarified the international releases. I was surprised to see Gamestop carrying figures like full power Broly.
Now I just need to figure out how to get those new History of Film figures
Hopefully it gets an international announcement. I’m thinking my next part of this video series will cover best places to buy
@@MatchesPeaches Yes please! While it's been easier to get Bandai figures in general, Kujis are still tough for beginners. As an aside, I spent a year in Australia pre-pandemic and was surprised what could be bought in the hobby and anime stores. I cane back with alot if smaller figures (building my Broly army!) I'm just as surprised as to what can be had in the US now. Before it was S.H. Figurarts, now I'm finding physical stores with Masterlise, Maximatic, etc

Grandista is my favourite line! Very beautiful figures with great size and they're easy to display because of their simple standing pose!

Oh and one thing on buying Kuji out of Japan, particularly Masterlise: if you go to Mandarake you can find figures for much better prices. I often see Masterlise pieces go for 2500-4500 yen. Last One prizes are insane though. But for conversion, you're looking at prices like $20-$50 for the average range I see there. Shipping out of Japan is quite expensive right now but Mandarake is otherwise a great place to look. One caveat though: they sell almost everything, so you can get some...family unfriendly stuff on the home page.

Thanks, this is exactly the kind of video i needed, i'm not a collector but i grew up with DBZ and few days ago, visiting San Francisco, i was walking around JapanTown and i had to buy 2 figures because i just loved the details, returning home i started looking for more info because there were plenty figures but very few with nice details.
oh, the 2 figures i bought are Vegeta manga dimensions and Gotenks gxmateria, not related at all i know, maybe in the future i will be getting more of each "line" or "series"

This is currently myself right now. I’ve been buying a bunch of SH Figuarts since I couldn’t find any sixth scale DB figures but this works just as good since posing HT’s are pretty limited anyways.

main thing I wanna know is the scales they're going for. I don't wanna "collect" these things, but I want a few to put on a shelf as a small tribute to Toriyama, with certain characters I like, and I'd like them to be close to each other in scale.
I just bought an edge works piccolo and a history box bardock, and they're definitely not the same scale.
Crane figures like SEW and History Box are usually not to scale with each other (not even within their own series of figures). Masterlise are really the way to go plus you get the highest quality figure. If you're looking for quality over quantity: go with Masterlise. Plenty of reviews on the channel!

Wish I came across this when I started collecting, great vid as always. But as a side note, there're a lot and I mean a lots of amazingly sculpt prize/crane figure with really cheap price, I'd suggest buying anyone you like, dont hesitate just because it has a base

Great video! I definitely learned a lot from watching this. I started collecting Dragon Ball within the last year. Mostly a Batman collector, but DBZ is another favorite of mine. I started with a lot of "crane" figures. They were cheap and the poses and paint were good enough for me. Been picking up some Masterlise lately. Amazing figures. The more the merrier in my collection. Some of the cheaper ones are a no-brainer to pick up. Wish I knew all this when I started collecting. Learned a lot from your unboxings/reviews

@@MatchesPeaches that's awesome! I grew up on Batman: The Animated Series. Watched DBZ growing up as well. I am a Batman fanatic. Used to get a lot of statues from DC Collectables and Diamond Select Toys. Those are not an option anymore. Since then I have shifted my collecting to more Dragon Ball

I buy a lot of the 20 to 25 dollar ones they are really nice and good quality and I buy them a lot at local fye. They have been getting new ones in every 2 or 3 weeks I think mostly because they know I am buying them constantly

SH Figuarts only seem to go well with each other. The only others that scale well are Imagination Works

You know I feel bad cuz most of my collection is bootlegs but that's because I'm not that rich but most of the bootlegs I have are pretty good with their designs except one wish I had the money for the high quality real things
Just save your money for the real deal IMO. You don’t have to have a lot of money. Just patience and a budget.
Hey, man. Love your videos. I recently got into collecting DBZ figures and I'm up to 15 in just 2 months! I'm currently in Korea, so Seoul has a good selection. Two things I've tried to find but have been unable to are (1) release schedule for figures, particularly the kujis, and (2) a catalog of all kujis ever released. Any insight on that?
Go to bp.Navi.jp and their Ichiban Kuji section. Then go to their release schedule and you’ll see it! I also make update videos every time a new Kuji is announced :)

Ironically my favourite line is GXMateria. The sculpt is amazing. Sadly the painting is very basic. I like some Ichiban Kuji... but the sculpt is not very good. I hope someday Toei let other companies to make more dinamic poses.
Hmm idk I think most Kuji sculpts are great! But everyone is different
I also am starting to like the gx materia line. I like the dynamic poses and sculpted ki and energy blasts. I'd rather a dynamic pose than a basic stance most of the time
So basically the ichban kuji is the Japan lottery version of these characters while ichibansho are the over seas in America releases of these figures but no all ichiban kuji figures will have ichibansho releases right? Grandista, masterlise and their subsets are ichiban kuji/ichibansho figures? Right? Lol
Correct in everything except Grandista are not Kuji figures. Those are crane figures

I think King Clustar is an individual line and not a subset of Masterlise. Why will they remove the name Masterlise on all King Clustar when they don't bother on the Emoving and Extra? Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.
I believe it is in some ways a subset because all King Clustar releases are alongside Masterlise

Now I understand a lot better, although I'm not sure why they make so many different lines instead of just continuing them but making them better. When I looked into what figures I wanted I thought "this banpresto figures are a lot better then many others brands, and if I want to go for the really awesome ones then I'm going for actually statues"
One thing that I'm still kind of confused, all the figures I got say Ichibansho but they're 5-8" tall. I thought only the prize/crane figures were that small
Oh! I'm seeing now that I got figures from different lines actually! Although they're still around the same height. I was focusing on the size of them so they would be around the same height, and that they look great of course

Ive gotten some one piece and dragon ball figures but their toei sticker isnt gold background, its silver background with purple toei logo and text
What does this mean ,does it mean its international release/US release? It also has a 2 on the right side of the sticker
It's an international release. There should be a reference in this video showing a bunch of different stickers. You're in the clear!
How about a quality from best to worst… just started collecting and picked up a smsp manga dimensions dimensions gogeta… thinking of grabbing more manga dimensions… just wondering if there are better quality ones.

@@navgill4063 Masterlise, Masterlise Extra, King Cluster, Master Stars Piece, Super Master Stars Piece, Grandista, Grandista Nero, Dragonball Legends Collab and Maximatic. Those are the best of the best. BWFC is also very good, but those are smaler scale and will only pair well with specific pieces. Hope that helps!

What’s your opinion on the DXF ones? Because I recently started collecting and picked up several DXF figures.
Too small
I only buy master star piece and grandista for their size. Anything smaller than that looks like toy instead of collectible and will easily clutter up your space since you will end up buying more as they are cheaper. Anything from ichiban kuji that looks decent, I will buy recast from taobao since they can remake it in resin and have them professionally painted. The price is not that much higher than buying ichiban kuji if you exclude the shipping.
Is Taobao bootlegs? If so I just can’t support that

Just wondering why is masterlise your favourite as super master piece clearly has the best sculpts/design. Could you explain it to me maybe I can relate more because as I am looking through masterlise some of their faces looks deformed and weird while compared to master piece which is well designed
I think Masterlise has the best likeness, variety, representation, scale, and quality. Not sure which ones you’re looking at. SMSP and MSP have also been discontinued.
@@MatchesPeaches I’m talking about overall existing smps ones compared to masterlise, knowing that do you think masterlise is better or smps in terms of design and sculpt, like gogeta for example. Oh and, I am looking for 1/6th 1/7th you think smps is closer to that? Or it depends on the figure
@@EndergoNx it depends on the figure. Overall I think Masterlise is much better in overall quality. Some MSP/SMSP have poor likeness, scaling, and shading application. Masterlise is far more consistent IMO with only a couple of figures coming out less than favorable every now and then.

I have recently got into collecting Banpresto Dragon Ball Z figures. If they are kept in mint could condition, would these figures be worth a lot in the future in about 7-10 years from now?
Probably but it also depends on how the hobby grows and if Dragon Ball remains relevant and grows too
What I really don't like about Dragon Ball figures is those "concrete shoe" looking supports.
Personal opinion, but I think the standard bases look better for anime figures.
Most supports are clear now though. But as long as you’re happy collecting whatever you collect then it’s all good :)
You kinda missed the spot on the prize figures. I find a lot of the prize figures that are more recent from the last couple years have excellent quality and detail beating out the grandista and maximatic line.
Some are but most don’t appeal to me due to being on a base or their size
