  • Despite a career of world-firsts in endurance cycling expeditions, Shimano ambassador Mark Beaumont, the current round-the-world record holder, had never competed in anything other than what amounts to very extreme solo time trials. This summer though, for the first time in his career, he entered a race. And not just any race, arguably the toughest endurance race in the UK, GBDURO. The drama was captured in a new Shimano video called MAIDEN RACE. Read more: gravel.shimano.com/en/explore...

    Markus, your effort to film 🎥 the race only using public transport and your bike, is as worthy an effort as the race participants! 👍🏻

      Thanks a lot. It was an experiment to see if it’s possible, and it worked well. I felt like just another rider, and managed to get to places inly accessible by bike. So the approach was more sustainable, but I also think it gives the viewer a good insight on how beautiful the route is.

    well done markus! crackin film. I know every one wants to hear about the winners, but the vast majority of us are adventurers having fun. It would be good to see the other end of the race too. The guys out there for 3 times as long suffering for longer, seeing their personal struggles, motivations and highlights

      Hi James, I agree with you. Those people deserve extra credit, and I managed to include at least each of them. The way this was produced made it tricky though, as I had to get ahead of the riders when they started again, as I filmed everything by bike & public transport. But with a team of people filming this would certainly be possible, and also needed.

    This confirms what an absolute animal on the bike Lachlan Morton is!! Another great year for the race, but I feel like its a little bit too up its own arse after only 2 years, in the same way that UCI cycling is, trying to limit the enjoyment of a race to those who deserve/appreciate it more than others is not the message to be putting out there. Cycling is many things to many people, wether its nipping to the shops, going on a riding holiday, or cycling the length of the UK, anyone should be able to and feel like they can be involved in such activities. And your own website slagging off EF Pro team cycling and their sponsors says it all.

    • @reizkultur
      @reizkultur 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a filmmaker I have tried to give as many people as possible involved in the race a voice. And document an activity which is in itself environmentally friendly in almost the same way, although taking trains & buses comes with an impact too. I think this is as much I would/can comment on this.

    • @anthony8890
      @anthony8890 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@reizkultur my comment was not directed at the film itself rather the attitude of a number of the participants. I love to cycle, and do so at every possible chance, and encourage myself and others to try and enhance their life through cycling. But the attachment between bikes and saving the planet it’s a different story all together. I for one have a car, and live in a major city therefore do not need to drive. But it’s down to the government’s especially here in the uk to provide safe and useable cycling lanes and carriageways to help to reduce the carbon footprint of the entire country not just as individuals. We are so far behind in so many ways in this country, and I champion change. But I watch lots of TH-cam videos created by cyclists for cyclists and unfortunately the use of fossil fuels is needed to create content, and film content, that’s the life we live in!

    • @TurneyUK
      @TurneyUK 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@anthony8890 disagree. Bike packing is about alternative culture, going off the grid. Finding alternatives to mainstream and modern life. There’s more to life than sitting in a metal box. Even in Lockdown with the rise of more people cycling the amount of traffic on the roads has shot up where more people are choosing to use cars rather than public transport. Individuals using personal transportation is out of control.

    • @anthony8890
      @anthony8890 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TurneyUK And you are more than entitled to your option. but my comment isn't on bike packing its on bad attitudes, those of people who want to keep things for themselves, with a holier than thou attitude. cycling is for everybody not just those who feel like they are saving the planet by doing so. I am well aware of the amount of cars on the roads too, as I cycle pretty much everyday, my point is with infrastructure and the lack of it. why should I risk my life to be healthy and keep down my emissions when it is not at all safe to do so? the complete lack of accessible public transport in the UK is also shocking, along with huge costs for using it. SO. my point is why are the government so behind? why aren't we like Europe? Its hard to affect change when the powers that be are too interested in making themselves money, rather than looking after the health of the nation. thanks for your response to my comment
