For your next Jerry song, please do "She Got the Gold Mine, I Got the Shaft". Great tune. Also, I remember Jerry in a movie called The Survivors, where Jerry played (I kid you not) a hitman. The movie also starred Robin Williams and Walter Matthau.
It is worth sitting through the entire movie to get to watch the "showdown" between Jerry and Robin and Walter in the final part of the movie. It's hilarious. Whole movie is good.
Another vote for Marie Laveau by Bobby Bare. You will absolutely love it! Gator McCluskey is a Burt Reynolds character in White Lightning and Gator, the movie this song came from.
This is the title song for a movie character, Gator Mcklusky, played by Burt Reynolds in 'White Lightning' and the sequel, 'Gator'. Unlike 'Smokey and The Bandit', both White Lightning and Gator are action/dramas with much darker tones.
Need to check out “Guitar Man”. Great song, so good, Elvis covered it, and had to get Jerry Reed to come from a fishing trip to play the guitar for his recording, cause nobody could do it like Jerry. And another fun fact, Elvis would always would get like 50% of the rights to the songs he covered, and after Jerry did his thing at the studio with Elvis, one of this people came up to Jerry and told him Elvis usually gets X amount of the song rights, Jerry said NO WAY. But Elvis like it so much, he didnt do anything about it. In fact, Elvis wanted to cover Dolly Parton’s i will always love you, but he never did, because Dolly wouldnt give any of the rights over to her song, even though she would have loved for him to do it.
"Gator" (1976) is a movie - sequel to "White Lightening" (1973) - both starring Burt Reynolds (as Gator McKlusky) with Jerry Reed in "Gator" as a hitman. Worth checking out over on the movie channel.
I have been to alot of concerts i am 64 but let me tell Jerry reed was my all time favorite. I such a great time singing his songs with him and knew i knew them all. It was so awesome. I will remember it forever.
@@emeraldmaiden63 that's how I got into Jerry too. Dad loved him. Great memories as my Dad has been gone 24 years now. I hear you on that for sure. Cherish those memories we have of them.❤
@Jeffrey Flint I will always remember my dad as a young man, as he died in 1983 at age 41. Lung cancer. I hope you have many good memories of your father.
@@emeraldmaiden63 wow! Younger than mine. I do have great memories of him. He was 58 when he died. Heart attack got him although it was the third one. Crazy when you think how quickly time goes by. That was in 1999. Mom died at 52 in her third insulin coma in 1992. I hope you still have your mama .
Great reaction. Jerry Reed is one of the best storytellers. She Got The Goldmine I Got The Shaft , and When You're Hot You're Hot are a couple really good ones by him. Yall should do some Roger Miller he's another good storyteller.
Gator McClusky was a person in the movie "Gator". It was a follow up movie to "White Lightning" both stared Burt Reynolds. Burt and Jerry have a long history together. Three movies together.
I had the pleasure of attending an outdoor concert with my father-in-law and hearing Jerry Reed live. A fun experience that I certainly treasure, especially now that my father-in-law is no longer with us. Jerry was the most entertaining performer I have ever seen.
Jay & Amber I think that it is time for reaction of the movie, Gator with Jerry Reed aka "Bama" McCall and Burt Reynolds aka "Gator" McKlusky. This is Burt's 1st as a director of a movie. Burt honored his college professor, Watson B. Duncan III by having Duncan in the movie. Duncan is well known in South Florida especially Burt's home county of Palm Beach, Florida.
Jerry Reed one of the greats in the world of guitar players, He also wrote great songs too ..Guitar Man ...This thing called love , Last train to clarksville .. ... One of my Hero's
"Gator McClusky" = Burt Reynolds in the film, "Gator". "The Okefenokee Swamp is a shallow, 438,000-acre, peat-filled wetland straddling the Georgia-Florida line in the United States."
Love these bayou songs!!! I think this was from the movie Gator, starting Burt Reynolds! Jerry Reed was awesome....check out his "When You're Hot, You're Hot!". You'd like Charlie Daniels story song "Wooly Swamp", and OMG, Bobby Bare's "Marie Laveau"!!! Please!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Just an idea, since we've met all your kids on this channel, and watched one of them being born, why not introduce us to Mama? And let her tell us some of these Jerry Reed stories. I bet it would be a hoot and a holler for everyone involved (especially us!) 😊
A great 70s country song with a unique voice is Earl Thomas Conley with "Holding Her and Loving You". A Keith Whitley type voice and I am sure the J&A team will love it.
Jerry was just so good. Two more great songs from Jerry are Guitar Man and a song about divorce called She Got the Goldmine, and I Got the Shaft. Also for another story song, Charlie Daniels Band's song called The Legend of Wooly Swamp.
Another great reaction, as always. Can't go wrong with Jerry Reed, he's a legend! I've been watching your music reactions from the beginning, and if I may, I'd like to offer one bit of constructive criticism. Your background has gotten much busier with all those great pictures of musicians, but it's so busy now, that the two of you don't stand out as much as you used to. It's like visually, you're fading into the background. Do what you like with that advice, and keep making the great music and movie reactions!
There is another fun "trucking" movie called "Convoy". I know you guys would like it a lot. It's fun, has catchy tunes, and it made the handle "Rubber Duck" famous as he put the "hammer down". Also, a song called "My Dingaling", "The Streak", and "It's Me Again Margaret.". I was just a kid, but these songs were so fun when they came out.
Jay I received a message from your boy. He said he heard you saying that he wasn’t even in your top 3 anymore. He asked me if I could tell you that he would like you to reconsider. He said that he put on the most banging performance of a life time at the River Plate. He wants you to see how he took over the show when they amped up “Let There Be Rock” He’s looking to be your number 1 boy again. You won’t be disappointed. Remember he did this just for you at the River Plate Live! Angus wants his spot back!!!
Along with Roy Clark and Jim Stafford, Jerry Reed was probably one of the greatest guitarists in country music, imo. To see his true musical talent, check out "Lightning Rod" or "Sugarfoot Rag"

Jerry Reed is also the only artist to tell Elvis " NO " as Elvis wanted Guitar man and Jerry recorded it with him to show how to reach the riffs as they were having problems with it. He came in, showed them and they told Jerry that it was now Elvis's song and he said no, and help out till Elvis said " pay the man. Great story to look up.
Another Country performer you should give a listen to is Roy Clark. Absolutely one of the very best guitarists of all time. He had a lot of comedic songs and some serious ones, but I recommend listening to his playing of the instrumental song "Malaguena". There are two versions, the standard Flamenco style and a very fast paced version he did live on the old TV show "The Odd Couple". The Odd Couple version will leave you astounded!
🎸ohMY... Roy's Guitar talent often gets overlooked(I think) because he is such a Goofball between songs, and Most of the stuff he does was just Standard Country.. "Malaguena" is just SO good
Jerry wrote and performed "Guitar Man". Elvis wanted to recorded they had to bring Jerry in to show them how he played it as none of the studio guys could recreate the sound of Jerry reeds song
Don't know which came first, but there was a pair of movies from the 70s starring Burt Reynolds portraying the character Gator McKlusky. One was called White Lightning and the other was Gator. Along with some innovative song stories it's worth noting Jerry Reed was an amazing guitarist. Keep finding this old gems. Thanks.
This song comes from the movie "Gator " (1976). Burt Reynolds was Gator McKlusky and Jerry Reed played a character named Bama McCall. Smokey and the Bandit was also made in 1976 also with Reynolds and Reed. I have always been amazed how good an actor Jerry Reed was. He was a musician first though. Great video.

There's also a story about how he got over on Elvis, relating to Guitar Man.
Gator was recorded for a movie with the same name, starring none other than Burt Reynolds. Another Jerry Reed banger... She Got the Gold Mine, I Got The Shaft.

I love that movie Gator. White Lighting is fine but Gator was the best. I love Jerry in that movie. He played a good bad guy.
