Building on the coast is critical. My first build was far from coast because I thought claiming the highest ground was more important. No so.
I would however suggest that this build is huge. If you are in a group with three others, you will need the space, but if solo, you can get away with a much smaller footprint.
Here is my generic starter build.
6m x 6m center section with 6m x 4m projections on all four sides. 4m high walls with 26 degree thatch roofs including inside and outside corners. Fireplace in center with chimney - this heats the entire house.
One side is entrance. I prefer this off the ground and jump in - this keeps mobs out.
Opposite side is bed on 1m high platform with 4-5 chests below for treasure, trophies and obsolete equipment. Any comfort items also go here.
I like one of the other sides to be at least 2m (preferably more) off the ground so I can put workbench enhancements out there and not clutter up the house. This side gets the workbench up against the chimney wall with 4 tiers of chests, usually 7 to a row in the 6m width, for all crafting (non-food) storage.
The last side is the cooking area with access to the fire and another bank of 28 chests in 4 tiers for food storage.
Outside I build a stake wall palisade and as many beehives as I can. When I get to it, smelters and kilns go here as well.
This is made almost entirely of wood, so it's buildable from the very start. This base lasts me until I get into a Swamp and bring back iron to start building in stone.
Hey there thanks for watching and appreciate all the info. I went for little bigger to show what can do with wood but your way is more efficient for sure. Nice to share thanks again.
I find that meshing the 26.5 and 45 degree crosses and beams give off a really nice finish on the house if you use it as wall substitutes or fireplace detailing.
I'm still an idiot when it comes to stone structures tho
Hey there thanks for watching and appreciate feedback and tips. I have used the crosses as detailing on other builds for walls windows and fireplaces defo agree they offer nice added detailing.
So Helpful, I've Only Got A Couple Hours In Valheim And Didn't Know any of this
Hey there hope it helps and have fun building and playing valheim. Thank you for watching and giving feedback.
I have hundreds of hours in and I still watch these videos to learn new things. I made a separate comment with a tighter build if you're interested.
@@nelsonhemstreet3568 Hi there i saw and thanks for sharing again, nice to pick up extra tips and ideas from players and other content creators.
I did not know about using the mouse wheel to rotate floorboards. This would have saved me so much time! Thanks for the tips!
Hi There thanks for watching and nice to hear tips will help people. Have fun building.
Great informative vid 👌
Hi echo glad you liked it hope it helps you and other Vikings out. Working on another build guide maybe week or 2 yet though work real life etc first.
@@Kroclo yup, I get that. I abandoned my yt channel because it started eating into my real life and effecting my job as I used to upload to suit American audiences, but I'm from England so was hard to maintain, plus I got bored of the game.
Your thumbnails are really good too, photoshop?
Heya i mostly do this part time and learning as I go. I use Davinci resolve mostly and sometimes a bit in Krita@@EchoLostAvakin
Many of the snapping problems that require mouse gymnastics can be solved by 'Q'
Hey there thanks for the tip on toggling snaping, i am more use to using that now. I am not sure if it was around when made this video or not to be honest.
Good stuff. liked and subbed.
11:15 If you knock out the 45° beam already placed on the roof edge, the wood wall 45° will snap more easily on. 🤘😎🤘
edit: Oh. you said exactly this two seconds later ha!
Hey there i did but your are right i didn't think about pointing that out till other side. we all live and learn i shall be trying to enhance this build and make another guide. Cant give a deadline though i aim for every 2 weeks or 1 week depending on video type. Work and real life slows things down youtube wise.
