just some leftover thoughts: As to why I deliberately chose such a difficult song and deliberately made Miku sound worse than she could have, it's to test her performance under extreme situations. As it turned out, she definitely sounds better with lower notes, but distorts at higher notes more easily. She definitely lost her V4X matureness to gain back her V2 cuteness, but her vowels don't sound as defined as V4X. As a tradeoff, consonants are smoother now. edit: also NO VIBRATO lmaooo how could I have missed that?
I think the quality of her voice is unacceptable for the price theyre demanding. VCV utaus have better clarity even when poorly strung together. I hope to god this is the result of her being a prototype. Otherwise this software is scamming yall lol
Well, keep in mind they are also giving you the editor, unlike vocaloid, wich you have to purchase separately. It also gives you Studio One, so you can start producing right away. I feel its a fair price. Ofc it wouldnt mean shit if Miku ends up being a bad voicebank, but even if thats the case, they are going for patch-like updates, so one of the many versions to come its going to sound "good"

I've heard her sound really good when she's tuned right. That saying, thank god this is only the demo. Shes got some bad extra fuzzy noise and clarity issues. Hopefully these issues are fixed by the time she's "really" released
"breathiness is actually really good now" it sounds like a shitty equalizer imo... you're right in saying vocaloid5 has a good breathiness parameter as it actually makes the voice sound like its whispering (again, without sounding like a shitty eq)

Wow Miku NT does not compare at all in quality to V4. NT sounds like a failed attempt at a NIAONiao database, with tons of added scratchiness. if someone showed me that clip of Miku NT singing, without telling me that it was Miku, and I didn't know that Miku NT was going to be a thing, I would not in a million years guess that was Hatsune Miku singing. I probably would have said that it was a NIAONiao database, or kagamine rin with wierd parameter editing.

The only part I don't like about the NT voicebank for now is how high pitched(?) it sounds? Like V4X is more stable and stays relatively the same from attack all the way to the decay, but NT has a soft attack, but just before the decay hits, it sounds oversaturated.

ohhhhhhh no she has an even worse issue than what Luka v4x had with the robotic tone and almost noisy dirty clarity :( why does the first vocaloid they try something new on ends up being so messy. Honestly glad miku took the fall this time because she has 19382 other voicebanks that sound really good while the others barely have 2 or 3 if they're lucky.
i feel like the NT voicebank should sound more like v4x as in it sounds stupid nasal as normal, dosent sound as realistic as v4x version but then again, if someone is bothered, if they have some parts as NT and some as V4X, it would sound amazing
Thank you for this video! You compared the two really well and I think this would be super helpful for people considering to buy her. She somehow sounds more "energetic" than V4x to me. I am personally excited for NT but hope the final product will turn out clearer, however in most demos I heard it seems like it becomes less noticeable when mixed anyway. Also I think tuning in NT seems so much easier?? That new tool is really cool and could save me some time for sure.
it took them until vocaloid 4 to do pitch snapping and then they took it away and gave us this godsend of a tool. can't really complain xD thank you too! actually, the energetic thing is their way to make her truer to v2 roots I believe. also this level of distortion shouldn't be a big problem because most vocals can be made clearer when mixed by using EQ :) unless you insist on making higher songs like Teo....

After i listen to your ver. of Teo, I tried to listen to others work using NT and it's not that bad. I guess your mixing was not that good. If you got the right adjustment, you will notice that Miku's voice sounds like a realistic V2. When you set the voice drive to growl, its sound awesome xD. Looking forward to Utsu P using NT.
thanks, I admit that my mixing is not great xD but honestly when I make V4X and NT sing together, you can really hear the difference in clarity :-/ if more mixing is needed to make a voice sound clearer when it's supposed to do that from the beginning, it's clearly a quality issue
I actually prefer the voice and V2 feel, but it definitely needs more work to be so expensive. If it were free like utau it'd be great imo, but since it's not I have to assume that we'll get v4x quality with a V2 voice. @Kuzishika I have no idea if it's really using her v2 samples, but it IS engine noise. Miku NT has a lot of white noise as a result of using a new synthesis engine that's still in development, there also some distortion especially on her [M] [w] phonemes from what I've heard. I get why you'd think it sounds like Miku V2, the voice sounds brighter and closer to that, but that's also because of the engine noise. An extreme case of that is V1 vocals sounding nasal because it was the first version of the engine and had a lot of noise.
She sounds like shes breathing in when she sings... that and her unstable-like voice are my only real complaints so far. Shes amazing so far! I can't wait for her full release
when hearing them side by side, something about NT's tone and vocals sound more raw, if that makes sense -- where I think people will be able to do some incredible stuff with the finished version. V4X sounds a little too pristine, like a Perfect Miku Voice Bank. not a bad thing at all, she's very quality ofc. but NT sounds like its going to be fun to see what people will do.
As it is now... I'm glad I didn't preorder Miku NT. I have V3 and V4X Miku, but her raw vocal in NT honestly sounds like, if she were made an UTAU? And like, a low quality one at that. I mean, it is a pre-release voicebank, but I REALLY hope this is like, a super early build. I just don't see myself getting her if the only change on the final release is changes in the UI. Crossing my fingers Crypton will get it together before the release of Kaito NT!

Interesting video. I dont really think that any of the two are particularly bad. I'm just used too much to their voices so I guess I wouldnt even know anymore whats good and whats bad lol. They sound different but I think it would depend on the song as to which would sound better.
you know guys it's just a prototype. Main goal of NT is to bring her v2-v3 type voice back to life but in Higher quality than ever. Prototype is just a prototype. I assure you that what you actually hear is estimated 30-50% of the real quality or performance. Do you really think they would do it to her and risk everything? nah. it's not happening. We just need to wait. I personally am happy if the prototype results, already hear her v2 spirit which was amazing on comparison to shitty v4. I did the comparison of decompiled samples of v4 and v2 and oh boy, you have no clue how much they filtered it all out. v4x sounds like some higher pitched thingy with applied tons of filters and heavy 9-12 kHz positive equalization. Her v2s bresthiness and softness is what Miku always been in my eyes. Nothing can beat Miku's v2 soft -a -u sounds but once again, it's my own personal opinion : ) BTW, to answer your questions why she's so choppy or has wrong attack / decay timings etc. she's lacking many samples, they were just not implemented yet. that's why it sounds choppy.

I'm not into the topic of software, but for me NT sounds similar to Teto or more like a robot (i heard GlaDos), it feels like the voice has a layer that is turning it off, like listening a person with a cold, or maybe you already had a custom tune in v4x because sound more clear and natural This is just the beginning... It can improve
I feel like we in the vocal synth community have become a bit... Judge-y? Towards voicebanks that don't sound 'smooth'. NT is still in beta, it's their first release, and there's obviously going to be a learning curve on how to make Miku's new voice work for you. There's very few vocal synths that you can't make work with some love and care. If people can make Utau VBs made with show soundbites sound good then Miku NT is far from the hardest to figure out. Give it time.
The thing is, you can't really compare UTAU VBs and Vocaloid/Piapro VBs in this regard because one is free, and the other is a marketed product that costs quite a lot money. If an UTAU VB sounds like this, no one would bat an eye. But Miku NT is being sold for nearly 200 dollars, on top of that is marketed as being 'at the limits of perfection' and yet she sounds like this? Worse than stuff that is free? That's why people are judging her. If Crypton want our money, they will have to try harder than a muddy voice with a buggy editor. Also, another difference between UTAU and paid products is products such as Miku are marketed as having high quality and ease of use, while UTAU comes with virtually no guarantees. What you're saying is the user also is responsible for making a professional product that they spent a lot of money to buy, sound good. While there's definitely learning to do, as a person who has moderately learned and has experience with Vocaloid, I can tell you that Miku NT is of borderline unacceptable quality for the price. It's business, you can't be complacent and let them take advantage of you being fond of the marketed character rather than the software itself.

Piapro NT itself could have costed much more, so the fact that Crypton is still bundling it with their new VBs is nothing short of a minor miracle. Piapro NT and Miku NT aren't actually out yet, the people that pre-order are getting an early access build. Her demos, which were likely made after the people producing the tracks got used to the new VB and software, sound much better than what people who have had a few days of testing are putting out. The prototype hasn't been out long, and unlike Vocaloid VBs will be receiving updates and bug fixes regularly if remember correctly. Piapro NT may be extremely similar to Vocaloid, but it's going to take some time for people to relearn how to tune her effectively.
@@valentines9999 As an owner of Vocaloid 5, I can assure you Vocaloid 5 comes with 4 voicebanks, 2 English, 2 Japanese, at about the same quality as Miku NT prototype but on a higher quality engine. I can literally put the same VSQX into Vocaloid 5 editor and get instantly better results with Miku V4X than NT. That alone speaks volumes about the quality they're delivering. Crypton has always bundled Piapro Studio with their voicebanks, so suddenly charging for it would be a questionable business move considering Cryptonloid prices are already higher than the average loid. I never made a point about whether NT is really out or not, my video even has the "prototype" word on the title. I'm positive that no one assumes that she's out, people commenting here are probably more informed than you might think, so no need for constant reminders about 'beta', which I've seen a lot of NT defenders do. The points being made here is that they took a lot of time developing NT, even delaying the prototype 2 times, and barely put out a decent beta, especially compared to a high quality product like V4X, and that's worrying. This means if they keep with the August release, the final product will not differ much from this one, because her development process has fallen too much behind release schedule to keep up. Even with future updates, releasing her at a state like this is embarrassing. The demo tracks are just her dry vocal on top of instrumental tracks, which sounded not very different from this demo, idk though...
@@BluemoonRhapsody The Vocaloid editor used to come bundled with VBs, so forgive me if I'm praising Crypton for keeping Piapro Studio bundled with the voicebank. Miku V4X came out a year and a half after Vocaloid 4 was released and Vocaloid itself had existed for over a decade at that point. Piapro may have been around for a while, but it still had to be retooled due to no longer using the Vocaloid API. I keep stressing that it's a prototype because people keep comparing it to V4X, which was the fifth time they had released a Miku VB/Append using Vocaloid and Crypton's FOURTEENTH VB overall that they actually developed themselves. To think it would have nearly as much polish as V4X is frankly astonishing. Piapro just doesn't have the years of time and effort put into it like V4 had. Miku NT was revealed right before the pandemic became major news. The fact that Piapro NT crashes more than older versions of Piapro shows that they probably spent the last few months trying to get the damn thing to work instead of polishing the VB quality. I'm not full defending NT, I think Crypton should have delayed both the prototype AND release. But I don't blame them for trying to push it out as soon as possible. The current model, as much as I hate it, is to release things to avoid as much delay and to just patch it later. The only reason I'm so worked up about this is because people are vastly underestimating how hard it is to develop a vocal synth that sounds as good as NT is, even if it's not great, let alone both the engine itself AND the VB.

i tried v4x just now and it's editor is very confusing to me. Mostly the playback, whenever i hit play it starts 2 bars behind where my cursor was. And when it's done playing it doesn't reset to where it was when i started, so i have to drag it back every time

Honestly I haven't been using NT at all for the past few year, but regarding updates there's nothing worth speaking about. There's a newer video in my channel that has comparisons between NT dark & whisper vs V4 dark & sweet that also has a bit of original voicebank at the end. I'd say she would still sound the same now
too bad after several updates they couldn't make her noticeably better. I'm still using v4x with vocaloid5 engine as well (no need for AI stuff so not upgrading to vocaloid6)

I think the voice voltage is actually tenseness of the voice. I think crypton wanna make it like synthV but with extra features

V4X dark definitely, probably cross synthesized with original or soft. the original voicebank can't really be that smooth

Interesting video. I dont really think that any of the two are particularly bad. I'm just used too much to their voices so I guess I wouldnt even know anymore whats good and whats bad lol. They sound different but I think it would depend on the song as to which would sound better.

I my opinion she sounds like a improved version of the V2 Miku, which is pretty cool! I love the old miku, even if she lacks clarity!

you know guys it's just a prototype. Main goal of NT is to bring her v2-v3 type voice back to life but in Higher quality than ever. Prototype is just a prototype. I assure you that what you actually hear is estimated 30-50% of the real quality or performance. Do you really think they would do it to her and risk everything? nah. it's not happening. We just need to wait. I personally am happy if the prototype results, already hear her v2 spirit which was amazing on comparison to shitty v4. I did the comparison of decompiled samples of v4 and v2 and oh boy, you have no clue how much they filtered it all out. v4x sounds like some higher pitched thingy with applied tons of filters and heavy 9-12 kHz positive equalization. Her v2s bresthiness and softness is what Miku always been in my eyes. Nothing can beat Miku's v2 soft -a -u sounds but once again, it's my own personal opinion : )
BTW, to answer your questions why she's so choppy or has wrong attack / decay timings etc. she's lacking many samples, they were just not implemented yet. that's why it sounds choppy.
Her V2 sounds better..... Heck you would've gotten a better product if you just ported her to utau.

no you're not, I also think she sounds quite iconic and cuter than v4x. but her voice quality is poor and hard to work with, they really need to improve the synthesizing engine.

I'm not into the topic of software, but for me NT sounds similar to Teto or more like a robot (i heard GlaDos), it feels like the voice has a layer that is turning it off, like listening a person with a cold, or maybe you already had a custom tune in v4x because sound more clear and natural

I personally like NT! I might need to save up for a bit but its good! I can't do V4x since that was a mess getting the demo in.
I feel like we in the vocal synth community have become a bit... Judge-y? Towards voicebanks that don't sound 'smooth'. NT is still in beta, it's their first release, and there's obviously going to be a learning curve on how to make Miku's new voice work for you.
There's very few vocal synths that you can't make work with some love and care. If people can make Utau VBs made with show soundbites sound good then Miku NT is far from the hardest to figure out. Give it time.
The thing is, you can't really compare UTAU VBs and Vocaloid/Piapro VBs in this regard because one is free, and the other is a marketed product that costs quite a lot money.
If an UTAU VB sounds like this, no one would bat an eye. But Miku NT is being sold for nearly 200 dollars, on top of that is marketed as being 'at the limits of perfection' and yet she sounds like this? Worse than stuff that is free? That's why people are judging her. If Crypton want our money, they will have to try harder than a muddy voice with a buggy editor.
Also, another difference between UTAU and paid products is products such as Miku are marketed as having high quality and ease of use, while UTAU comes with virtually no guarantees. What you're saying is the user also is responsible for making a professional product that they spent a lot of money to buy, sound good. While there's definitely learning to do, as a person who has moderately learned and has experience with Vocaloid, I can tell you that Miku NT is of borderline unacceptable quality for the price. It's business, you can't be complacent and let them take advantage of you being fond of the marketed character rather than the software itself.
@@BluemoonRhapsody Miku NT also comes with the editor itself, which can't be said of Vocaloid 5. $200 won't even get you the standard edition of V5. Piapro NT itself could have costed much more, so the fact that Crypton is still bundling it with their new VBs is nothing short of a minor miracle.
Piapro NT and Miku NT aren't actually out yet, the people that pre-order are getting an early access build. Her demos, which were likely made after the people producing the tracks got used to the new VB and software, sound much better than what people who have had a few days of testing are putting out.
The prototype hasn't been out long, and unlike Vocaloid VBs will be receiving updates and bug fixes regularly if remember correctly. Piapro NT may be extremely similar to Vocaloid, but it's going to take some time for people to relearn how to tune her effectively.
@@valentines9999 As an owner of Vocaloid 5, I can assure you Vocaloid 5 comes with 4 voicebanks, 2 English, 2 Japanese, at about the same quality as Miku NT prototype but on a higher quality engine. I can literally put the same VSQX into Vocaloid 5 editor and get instantly better results with Miku V4X than NT. That alone speaks volumes about the quality they're delivering.
Crypton has always bundled Piapro Studio with their voicebanks, so suddenly charging for it would be a questionable business move considering Cryptonloid prices are already higher than the average loid.
I never made a point about whether NT is really out or not, my video even has the "prototype" word on the title. I'm positive that no one assumes that she's out, people commenting here are probably more informed than you might think, so no need for constant reminders about 'beta', which I've seen a lot of NT defenders do.
The points being made here is that they took a lot of time developing NT, even delaying the prototype 2 times, and barely put out a decent beta, especially compared to a high quality product like V4X, and that's worrying. This means if they keep with the August release, the final product will not differ much from this one, because her development process has fallen too much behind release schedule to keep up. Even with future updates, releasing her at a state like this is embarrassing.
The demo tracks are just her dry vocal on top of instrumental tracks, which sounded not very different from this demo, idk though...
@@BluemoonRhapsody The Vocaloid editor used to come bundled with VBs, so forgive me if I'm praising Crypton for keeping Piapro Studio bundled with the voicebank.
Miku V4X came out a year and a half after Vocaloid 4 was released and Vocaloid itself had existed for over a decade at that point. Piapro may have been around for a while, but it still had to be retooled due to no longer using the Vocaloid API.
I keep stressing that it's a prototype because people keep comparing it to V4X, which was the fifth time they had released a Miku VB/Append using Vocaloid and Crypton's FOURTEENTH VB overall that they actually developed themselves. To think it would have nearly as much polish as V4X is frankly astonishing. Piapro just doesn't have the years of time and effort put into it like V4 had.
Miku NT was revealed right before the pandemic became major news. The fact that Piapro NT crashes more than older versions of Piapro shows that they probably spent the last few months trying to get the damn thing to work instead of polishing the VB quality.
I'm not full defending NT, I think Crypton should have delayed both the prototype AND release. But I don't blame them for trying to push it out as soon as possible. The current model, as much as I hate it, is to release things to avoid as much delay and to just patch it later.
The only reason I'm so worked up about this is because people are vastly underestimating how hard it is to develop a vocal synth that sounds as good as NT is, even if it's not great, let alone both the engine itself AND the VB.

i tried v4x just now and it's editor is very confusing to me. Mostly the playback, whenever i hit play it starts 2 bars behind where my cursor was. And when it's done playing it doesn't reset to where it was when i started, so i have to drag it back every time

Honestly I haven't been using NT at all for the past few year, but regarding updates there's nothing worth speaking about.
There's a newer video in my channel that has comparisons between NT dark & whisper vs V4 dark & sweet that also has a bit of original voicebank at the end. I'd say she would still sound the same now
