  • Follow us on our mini bike tour to a children´s summer camp. We ride a Larry vs Harry Bullitt cargo bike and also have a BOB Yak trailer fully loaded. I estimate total weight, including passengers and cargo, was a total of 180kg.
    I am running my 250W front hub motor and a 17Ah 36V battery on this trip. The total distance to our destination turned out to be 44km. A 17Ah battery will in many cases be marketed as a +100km battery. In this video we will show you how far this battery took us in a real life situation.
    KEYWORDS:
    Larry vs Harry
    Bullitt Cargo Bike
    17Ah Ebike Battery

    I carry my daughter too. She sleeps every time. I think children really like riding on big bicycle with their parents.

    Nice video, thanks for the effort of putting it together. I also have a regular Bullitt (27 external gears) that I use every day to take my dog to work (34km return trip). I'm hoping to get the newer MTB e-Bullitt later this year for longer trips to the mountains so it was interesting to watch your video. I might have to buy a couple of extra batteries, just in case :) Thanks again.

    Those BOB trailers tend to have trouble if you haul anywhere close to their rated load of 75 pounds. Mine was trouble with that much.

    I would stick with the 250 watts for long rides it will last longer and a bigger motor may require bigger batteries that add more weight I don't have a ebike now but I am thinking of making one this has been helpful for me as well

    • @glenswada
      @glenswada 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its surprising but bigger motors can be far more efficient than smaller motors. On the flat, at say 20km/h they will use about the same wattage. But on hills the smaller hub motor can easily drop to half the efficiency of larger motor thus using twice as much wattage. For instance on a 7 degree hill a 250 watt motor will use 50+ Wh/km whereas a larger motor (Mac 500) will use 30 Wh/km, both climbing at 14km/h. But in Europe Mac 500 hub motors are illegal so many tend to get mid drives allowing smaller motors to remain in their efficiency range by utilising bikes gearing.

    I got a Christiana Ebike, 36v 15Ah and 250W hub motor. I bought a new battery (same specs) and I can reach 36 to 40 Km with it. I have to say, my pedal assist is broken, so I can only use the throttle.
    Do you think that this range is enough for a new battery? Our load is always ca. 130 to 160 kg

    Very much enjoyed your stuff, clear, interesting and informative. My comment earlier was really a concern with the bumps and percussive forces on a young persons neck and spine whilst in a twisted position. Obviously dad is in a position to judge but the comfy position offered whist stationary would certainly be more attractive to a young person. Hope to see more of you vids soon. Best wishes

    Is there a reason your daughter can't face forwards? It looks rather uncomfy to be twisted round, especially for extended periods. She also has chance to brace should you hit a rock or curb etc.

    Quick questions, I am in the US and unfortunately ciclotek does not send parcels out this way. Did you build this from scratch or use on of the kits? Trying to piece together a kit like yours for daily commute of 21 miles one way so 41 miles total. I just want the assist not full throttle as I need to cut some weight. Lol.

    when you say full assist you mean you are in the highest assist mode but assist means you are pedaling along with it right? if your not then your just using throttle and would def get less range without helping it.

    • @e-bikecommuter6336
      @e-bikecommuter6336  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Pelletier
      Yes, I was pedaling along the whole distance on this trip. On the way home I used full assist for the entire duration of the trip. I dont have a throttle on this bike. The motor starts when I pedal and stops when I stop pedaling.

      It was her own choice to sit like so. The front end of the cargo box is chamfered a little so with a pillow behind her back she felt she was more comfortable sitting like this. On the way home she fell asleep and slept half of the way.
      But I really should start working on a new box with proper seats and protection from the elements. Hopefully this summer already!

      Wouldn't that decision be hers? Maybe she prefers to see Daddy's face when riding the bike. Most communication isn't verbal remember. Also - if there's ever going to be a nasty accident you don't want your kid's last thoughts to be ones of being terrified, for that reason also have them facing you if they're comfortable, as you do with a pram.
