Now that the Boeing 737 Max is recertified and flying regularly again, Southwest has gone full steam ahead with their plans to expand their Hawaii offerings. If you’ll remember, Southwest was planning to rely heavily on the Max when they announced plans to start flying to Hawaii. Unfortunately, not long after they started flying to Hawaii with the 737-800, the Max was grounded, and really threw a wrench into their plans. They then had to rely on the next 737-800, which was being pushed to the limit of its abilities on some routes. With the Max comfortably back in service, Southwest has unloaded on Hawaii. Honestly, HNL looked like a mini Southwest hub when I was there. I don’t consider my channel to be an airline review channel, but I thought it was worth mentioning what I thought about this flight. Spending six hours on a 737 is not something you typically see. I’m happy to report that Southwest and the aircraft exceeded my expectations. In my opinion, Southwest’s 737 Max’s have the most comfortable economy seating of any US domestic 737 operator. And even though this flight was completely full, and I had someone sitting next to me that I didn’t know, it did not feel like a six hour flight, and I actually found it to be quite comfortable. And remember, i’m not short. I’m 6’ 2” tall. If you are planning a trip to Hawaii, and you are not looking for a premium product like premium economy or first/business class. I think Southwest should be near the top of your list. Anyways, with that said, sit back, relax, and enjoy this beautiful flights to Hawaii.
Thank you so much for that suggestion! I'd like to try that. I've just got to get away soon, or I'll go crazy. The problem is that I need someone to go with me when I travel for a vacation, especially since I want to make sure we can make our way all around the Big Island, and I'll need someone to drive me. Of course, if they have any self-driving cars, I'm not ready for that yet, but I'd really like to learn how to use one, because I don't think that public transportation will be conveniently available. It's certainly not available right now here in Atlanta, and I've been stranded for more than I care to be! I need a miracle! I can't stand this isolation anymore, and I really must get away from all this pollution. (No. I don't have anyone in my family that can help me.) Hiring a professional is weigh out of my price range, and I need some recreation and fun in the worst way. I haven't taken a vacation for more than 4 days in 25 years, and it's affected my physical, mental and spiritual health in a big way. I especially need to have someone with me I can trust. Please pray for me, because I can't wait much longer to travel. Thanks.

I flew an Air Canada 737 max 8 from Toronto to Winnipeg back in July and I really enjoyed it. The only problem was that we had engine issues while we were at the gate. The super smart flight attendants decided that honesty was the best policy and told everyone that this 737 max 8 was having engine problems but we were departing shortly. They seemed to realize that they had made a mistake and tried to walk it back but it didn't work. Everyone was tense and nervous throughout the entire flight. 😅😂
All the more cool in that N8741L is the same MAX that was featured in your Southwest MAX re-inaugural from KDEN to KMDW. Great to see it really stretching it legs now! 😊

@@sebastianfloyd372 I was thinking the same thing while it was grounded also. Now however this aircraft has been scrutinized like no other and is probably one of the safest in the skies. Hey there. Nice flight. I did not know the max had a Pacific crossing range that far ! And the inbound approach to HNL was for the runway that runs along the ocean side. I know that 737's are used on other island hopping flights through the South Pacific. Nice nonetheless.
Yes, in fact the Max was a huge part of Southwest’s original plan to enter the Hawaii market. They started the service with the 800, with the intent to swap everything over to the Max 8 as soon as they were delivered, and ETOPS (Extended-range Twin-engine Operations Performance Standards) certified. Obviously, the grounding of the aircraft for two years really threw a wrench into their plans. With a lower fuel burn, and increased range, Southwest was really relying on the Max being introduced to optimize their routes to and from Hawaii. I’d guess that Las Vegas would have been introduced as a destination much sooner, had the Max not been grounded for two years. Where the 800 could do a lot of the other routes, with some weight restrictions, it could not do LAS without serious restrictions. Southwest likes to optimize their aircraft. They run as many flights as possible with their planes. Unlike Hawaiian, which has a dedicated interisland fleet. Southwest often operates a flight from the mainland to the islands, then operates one or two interisland flights, before sending the plane back to the mainland. So, they don’t have aircraft based in Hawaii all the time. They’re constantly rotating in and out. So, those 737s you see operating interisland flights, are the same 737s they use to fly back-and-forth to the mainland.
Great video boss! I flew on the Max for the first time last month from Toronto to Calgary with Air Canada and I must say it was a nice 4hr transcontinental flight across Canada/US (flight path) despite a few turbulence. Also the Max is a pretty quiet bird and their seat in Business class is pretty comfortable (I haven't flown in AC's Max economy yet). Wish southwest had some bigger planes in their fleet for their longer flights like Vegas - Hawaii, etc. 777, 767, or 787 would be really cool with the southwest livery.
There is an account on instagram - @modified_airliner_photos who modifies the liveries of planes, and has done SWA a few times. Even a SWA A380 at one point. Also, to add on to your point, I think the 757 would be perfect for southwest, because it's still small enough that the open seating would not wreak havoc, and its range is long enough for flights such as this one to Hawai'i. Too bad they aren't really produced anymore.
@@seans767 I agree with you I wish they had 757’s too. The only reason I didn’t mention that type of aircraft is because like you said they’re not really produced anymore sadly
@@vegasaviation2243 Right. Them operating wide bodies does seem interesting, and they might be able to make it work with their boarding method if they just add more groups. Otherwise, the only other narrow body solution would be an A320neo, which would make pilot training harder, since they would have to train for both Boeing and Airbus
@@seans767 yeah definitely. if they just add D1-30 , D31-60 , etc. they could make it work for wide bodies. Shouldn’t be a major deal for the company. They might need to use another gate adjacent to the main gate for more places to sit for passengers but they could make it work I’m sure. Southwest is growing like crazy and dominating the skies. Would not shock me to see them buy some wide bodies and eventually travel across the pond to Europe
Guess Allegiant is being pinched a bit from LAS to HNL by SW. Believe AAY was(is) using 757s on this route. Appreciate the in-cabin review. Think I'd stop at Jimmy Johns before boarding, though.
Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on if you like Allegiant haha, they ended all of their Hawaii service awhile back. They then returned all of their 757's to their lessors. And although the snack pack is quite filling. I'd agree. Probably best to grab a more substantial meal before you board.
That's a looooooong flight (with very little food) in a 737, no? P.S. I see by the comments that I was certainly not the only one who had this thought. Haha. ;)
It is definitely a long flight for a 737. But not unheard of. Hawaiian, and American also run narrowbody aircraft to Hawaii from Phoenix and Las Vegas. Although they operate the routes with A321-200N’s. Typically, spending six hours on any 737 is not high on my bucket list. But, I was pleasantly surprised. The snack pack is actually quite filling, and is more than you get on American which is nada haha. And, in my opinion, Southwest has the most comfortable seating on their 737’s when compared to the economy products of the other US domestic 737 operators. Honestly, it did not feel like a six hour flight. And that’s coming from someone who typically doesn’t like to spend more than a couple of hours on a 737 at once hahax
It is such a long story short. The second I walk into an aircraft. The first thing I actually experience is I am getting anxious. Idk why but It makes me feel sick inside 😷.
Next month I'm doing a Southwest points run from ATL-SAN, SAN-HNL, Then 7 hours later ~> HNL-PHX, PHX back to ATL! First 3 flights are 737-8 Max last is 737-800!! Super excited!!! Total cost with early bird on every leg $370!!! EDIT this is my first time on a plane since the pandemic started
Or you can bring qdoba on the plane and open it mid flight like I did......Just prepare to fear for your life as those around you start asking what smells so good.....Then slowly they all turn toward you. 😆😆😆😆
Typically I would agree. Usually, spending six hours in a 737 is not high on my list of things I want to do. In general, I think 737‘s are typically the most uncomfortable domestic US aircraft type you can fly on. That said, Southwest has, in my opinion, the most comfortable seats of any US 737 operator. And considering so many airlines are now flying 737s to Hawaii. I think Southwest should be towards the top of everyone’s list when looking for Hawaii flights now. Assuming you’re not looking for a premium product, since Southwest only offers economy. Honestly, this flight did not feel like a six hour flight. And I had someone sitting right next to me, as the flight was completely full.
@@visionist7 There's a light year of difference between flying in any airline B737 and a BBJ. I'd love to do a long trip in a BBJ--if I could afford to do anything with a BBJ but look at it from a distance. 😉
Hello, the max has been talked about a lot. I am European and have been flying Boeing for 40 years and still have confidence. A color question, how do you manage to have such beautiful colors? Do you use luts? Thanks again. Greets from Belgium.
I do very little post filming editing. I do not use luts. In fact, I’ll be honest. I had to look that up to even know what it was. Most of what you see is pretty much “as filmed.” I do small color corrections on occasion using the built in tools in Final Cut Pro, but that’s usually after I’ve filmed a time lapse through a tinted airport window. In my experience the iPhone has done a marvelous job of filming great colors without much editing.
Personally I’ve been on one of Southwest’s MAX aircraft, and was super comfortable, the only thing that was annoying is that there wasn’t power outlets. I don’t get how they don’t install those for aircraft that they’re intending to use on flights to Hawaii.
I agree on both points. I think, despite being slim line seats, they are very comfortable. But, it is disappointing that Southwest is now operating these on six hour flights without having a charging option. Thanks for watching my friend!
Unfortunately, budget carriers won't offer these types of services. It is always nice to have them though. Alaska is good for Hawaii/west coast flights with power outlets!
@@olive836 It seems like the thrust levers on the MAX are programmed to sometimes force the pilots to move them slowly at first, but enables them to move them faster closer to full power. I wonder why. Is it better for the engines and/or airframe in certain conditions or something?
I honestly don’t know. I don’t keep track of my flights cruising altitudes. Best advice I can give you, is look this flight up on flight radar and see what it it flies that typically.
I don't know about cloud cover for sure, but there is only measurable rain in Las Vegas 26 days per year. On this day, I was woken up to severe thunderstorm warnings and flash flood warnings. It was a downpour. These clouds were left over from that.
Normally, I would agree with you. Typically, I think 737s are some of the most uncomfortable aircraft to fly domestically in the United States. That said, IMO, Southwest has the most comfortable seating when compared to the other domestic US 737 operators. This was a completely full flight, I had someone sitting right next to me that I didn’t know, and honestly it didn’t feel like a six hour flight.
Nice video, but has this been edited? The description says that the flight time went for 5 hours and 59 minutes, and the length of this video is 5 hours.
There are some, very small, portions edited out. For example, when the flight attendant was talking to me, getting drink orders etc. That said, I list flight time as the total time spent on the aircraft. I.e., from the time the door of the aircraft is closed, until it's opened again at the destination. Not just total air time. So, most of the missing time is that. We spent some time at LAS with the door closed waiting to push, and then when we got to HNL, the jet bridge was broken, and we sat for at least half an hour before they were able to get it to work right.
I mean, I pick my seat when I board just like everyone else on Southwest. I fly Southwest enough to have status with them. This means I'm usually around A20-30 when boarding. It means I usually am on the plane early enough to make sure I get the seat I want.
Well, for starters, at a lot of US airports, the taxiways are not exactly close to the terminal. For example, The Denver International Airport, and the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport are both larger than the island of Manhattan. That is a very long way for your ramp crew to potentially have to tow an aircraft, when there’s probably already another aircraft waiting for that gate. Even if another aircraft wasn’t already waiting for that ramp crew to get back, you’d be under tow for quite some time. On top of that, they don’t want the taxiways being blocked by aircraft that are being released from a tug. Even if the aircraft is configured, and the engines are started, while under tow. There is still a couple of minutes that the taxiway would be blocked while the aircraft is disconnected from the tug, and the ramp crew is removed from the area. Many airports in the US are slot restricted, and there are pretty much planes taking off and landing all day long. If you drop the plane on the taxiway and all of a sudden block five other aircraft from getting to the end of the runway, that’s a problem. And third, active taxiways are movement areas, and are under air traffic control. Typically ground control. And most of the airlines probably don’t want to go through the process of training all of their ramp crews how to properly drive and communicate on active taxiways. When you’re on the ramp, you are still on a non-movement area. That means you do not need to contact air traffic control to get permission to move the aircraft. Now, depending on the size of the airport or the specific airlines operation at that airport, you may still be required to contact ramp control. But that is not a FAA controller. Ramp control is either controlled by the airline itself, or the airport authority. So consequences for not following directions are not as stiff as if you were on the active taxiway in the movement area. So, it’s probably a combination of several of these depending on the airport.
Around 8 days per month. But, I fly specifically to get footage for this channel. So, it’s not unusually for me to fly 4-5 segments per day. That allows me to get enough footage to keep up with 7 uploads per week.

Newer small planes are in these days! More efficienct ❤️.
Another OUTSTANDING video...How can you possibly hold that phone (camera) for 5 hours??!?!?!?!
Lots of practice haha. Thanks for watching my friend!
I see 737-8 Max, I see LAS to HNL, I see engine view....You see LIKE!!! I'm a simple man...
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching my friend!

15:07 that roar is amazing!
You know it's a full power takeoff when you hear the buzz on the Max. Thanks for watching my friend!
Amazing graphics!!
Yeah, that Real Life Sim add-on really looks good, doesn’t it?
Wow nice blue lights in here
Wow. You do full flights? This is awesome!
That is the main staple on my channel. I post three full flights every week. Thanks for watching my friend.

Sounds like my kind of trip haha. Have fun my friend!

I never noticed until now that you can see a Janet taking off @9:15
You can indeed. I hand't noticed that either and I took the flight and edited it haha.
that LEAP reminds me a lot of the GE90, but the one on the A320NEO family doesnt as much
Thet need to make the fusalge same size as 727. Nice wide aircraft. They forget were the customer and the only reason their in business.
What time was it when take off in las Vegas?
I mean for a 5 hour flight , I would think you’d be served more than a simple snack box lol
On American you don’t get anything, so it’s not horrible. Although it’s not a “meal” it’s actually quite good.
You can pay allot and get something or pay a little and get snacks
@@Justathought81 Or you can pay the same price or more on American, and get nothing haha.
Or you can bring qdoba on the plane and open it mid flight like I did......Just prepare to fear for your life as those around you start asking what smells so good.....Then slowly they all turn toward you. 😆😆😆😆
AA has buy-onboard though. Southwest literally throws 18 wheat thins, some processed cheese spread, and tictacs at you and that’s it. No thanks.
Thanks for the video! Its good to see the MAX is back again! Its a great engine and very quite.
That is a long time to be on a narrow body lol
Today I tracked a BBJ flying from Jeddah to New York - 13 hours on a narrowbody. But in a queen size bed 🤪
@@visionist7 There's a light year of difference between flying in any airline B737 and a BBJ. I'd love to do a long trip in a BBJ--if I could afford to do anything with a BBJ but look at it from a distance. 😉
looks so real, what game is this?
This is Real Life Simulator 2021.
13:28 Slow Spoolup from stabilization point
13:33 Faster Spoolup closer to full takeoff power
Why does the MAX do this sometimes?
Its due to whenbthey are ipushing the thrust levers, they start slowly and speed up the pace of them pushing them to TOGA power
@@olive836 It seems like the thrust levers on the MAX are programmed to sometimes force the pilots to move them slowly at first, but enables them to move them faster closer to full power. I wonder why. Is it better for the engines and/or airframe in certain conditions or something?
All planes stabilize at about 30-40% N1 before going to 80-90% N1, as to not stress the engines. This isn't just a 737 MAX thing.
@@rylans.5365 I know, but the MAX sometimes spools up slowly from stabilization point, and then increases thrust quickly near full takeoff power.
Hello, what a beautiful ✈
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
@@sla31 I must be a dream to fly with Southwest. The dream is too expensive for me. I live in Germany.
That’s a long flight for a plane that size, AA sometimes uses the 777-200ER on that route and Hawaiian sometimes uses the A330-200 on that route!🙂
WOOOOW!!!! I LIKE THIS PART OF SWA BETTER THAN THE OTHERS😎😄😆
It’s always easier to like it when the destination is Hawaii. Haha
737-800 Max great aircraft 👍
I have ridden B737 MAX8 in 2018 and that aircraft was much quieter than B737-800
Very beautiful and smooth landing in Honolulu. I love to fly with SWA. Thanks for sharing 👍
Hi there. Just curious... What was the cruise attitude for Max? Thx
I honestly don’t know. I don’t keep track of my flights cruising altitudes. Best advice I can give you, is look this flight up on flight radar and see what it it flies that typically.
Those Leap 1B engines sound suspiciously like the CFM 56B ones
Similar size

I was amazed at the cloud cover over Las Vegas. How many days a year does that happen?
I don't know about cloud cover for sure, but there is only measurable rain in Las Vegas 26 days per year. On this day, I was woken up to severe thunderstorm warnings and flash flood warnings. It was a downpour. These clouds were left over from that.

6 hours on a southwest 737 max jeez
Why Southwest dont take A320's????
How do u always get the wing seat? Can u pick your seat or something?
I mean, I pick my seat when I board just like everyone else on Southwest. I fly Southwest enough to have status with them. This means I'm usually around A20-30 when boarding. It means I usually am on the plane early enough to make sure I get the seat I want.
I still don’t understand, why don’t they pushback onto the taxi lines? In the UK all aircraft get lined up onto the taxi lines
Wow 😯
Just curious, how much memory this this take up on your SD card?
This flight, and everything you see in this video, took up about 125GB of space.
Soooo nobody claps anymore when they announce the arrival to Hawaii?
I fly to Hawaii a lot, and no, I haven't heard clapping on a flight in a long time. Thanks for watching!
How often do you fly? Just curious.
Around 8 days per month. But, I fly specifically to get footage for this channel. So, it’s not unusually for me to fly 4-5 segments per day. That allows me to get enough footage to keep up with 7 uploads per week.
