I've really been looking forward to posting this one! I think it's the best video I've ever published, both in the quality of the production and the actual flight! The views are stunning throughout, you can't beat those GE90 engines for us aviation enthusiasts, there aren't any noisy distractions since I was in United's Polaris class, so it should be great for those of you who like to use my videos to relax, work, or sleep to, and it was just a great flight overall. On top of all of that, we're treated to a rare, reverse operations landing at HNL. I have been to HNL many times now, and I've flown out of HNL, sometimes 5 times in a single day, and this is only the second time I've ever seen reverse operations happening at HNL. This means our approach brings us directly over Diamond Head, Waikiki, Waikiki Beach, downtown Honolulu, and the famous Rainbow Tower at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. All before landing on the famous reef runway! Enjoy!
Yes indeed! I've flown to HNL on these "Boeing Big Boys" many times...but I never actually stayed on Oahu. I connected with inter-island flights and spent all my times in Hawaii on the quieter, more rural outer islands. Like the windward/paradise parts of Kauai, Maui, Big Island.
Initially I thought, who is watching all 5+ hours of this? Then just realized the white noise is actually calming and may help some people to sleep. Not to mention waking up and glancing at the blue sky, clouds and ocean. Nicely done!
That engine sound is like a lullaby to me. No matter how I may feel or even if I'm wide awake and fully alert, a while of that noise and my eyes are as heavy as the plane itself 😂
Stuff like this still blows my mind. The thought of an aircraft carrying passengers flying across the largest and deepest ocean in the world, which covers approximately 63 million square miles and contains more than half of the free water on Earth so seamlessly, is marvelous.
I certainly understand that. I've flown from the West Coast to Hawaii and the many-hour-distant South Pacific Tahitian and Cook Islands myself (multiple times). So I have a good perspective of how utterly, mind-bending ENORMOUS the Pacific really is. It's ponderous. It's the largest geographical feature on this planet. That's why my LONG Pacific flights have been on a combo of 747s, 767s & 777s.
I've flown from LAX to AKL and also from SFO to SYD. I've also done SFO to Seoul and also from HKG to SEA. You REALLY see just how BIG the Pacific is when you do those itineraries.
@@scottbridge9391 Ah yes, I once flew from SFO to AKL on one of these 777 overnight flights. It was around 13 hours. But I got lucky because there was an empty row of seats near me so I put up the armrests and used this seat row as a bed and got a few hours of sleep.
I love your full flight videos the most, because there's no narration, evaluation, reviews, opinions, music, etc. Just the ambient sounds and beautiful sights. I can fully immerse myself in the flight; it feels like I'm there.
This is a rare and unusual approach to HNL. Kona winds. Typically with trades the approach is from opposite direction. Even with Kona winds typically the approach is further from the shoreline. Great view of Honolulu.

This is 5 days after I flew to Oahu and lived for a year. I miss it everyday. I was on 777 as well in first class baby!! The takeoff power of this beast is unreal!! We had a tail wind that shaved almost an hour off of our flight time. Trade winds coming was actually pretty smooth. Love hawaii!!!
I wish I'd had the opportunity to fly to Hawaii on a 747. I was there many times when United, Qantas, and others were still flying them to the islands, but never booked one of them. That's a great memory to have. Thanks for watching my friend.

Thanks my friend. It's a very rare approach. The easterly trade winds usually make the traffic pattern flow the other direction. I've been flying to HNL multiple times per year for this channel for nearly 10 years now and this was the first time I'd ever gotten this approach. It's very rare that the winds are out of the west in Hawaii.
I sat, and aside from a few "leaps" forward with the video, I watched the entire flight across the Pacific and I gotta say....that's a LONG trip if you had to travel the Pacific by boat, not sure I would wanna do that trip, even if it was on the 'Love Boat'.
What's nice about SFO is that's it's very HUGE and roomy, so it never feels crowded & chaotic as I always saw that LAX mess was. In area, SFO is so large it's filled with those long moving sidewalks that take you from one part of the airport to another. I've never seen an airport that seemed so physically "roomy" as SFO.
Not that we don't already know the GE-90 is big, but it's kind of comical how the 3/4ths view makes the wing walkers look small. Granted, they're at a distance from the aircraft itself but still. Cool final approach/short final to HNL's Reef Runway. Nice job as always capturing the greatness of flight 👍.

Great fly! On airport article on Wikipedia, they list ICAO airport code and IATA airport code. What's the difference between IATA and ICAO airport code?
IATA and ICAO are both International organizations. However, ICAO or the International Civil Aviation Organization is a branch of the Untied Nations. Basically a governmental agency. IATA or the International Civil Aviation Organization is a non-governmental agency that is more air carrier based. Off the top of my head, I believe the main difference is the IATA code is only three letters where the ICAO code is four. Also, I believe the ICAO codes are actually generated to denote exactly where an airport is in the world based on the first letter or two, whereas IATA codes are just designed to be similar to the cities name. For example. Kahului's IATA code is just OGG, which mirror the FAA code. Whereas the ICAO for Kahului is PHOG. So why is IATA and the FAA OGG and ICAO is PHOG? Well, The PH in the ICAO code denotes that the airpot is in Hawaii. Then they just used the rest of the FAA code, so PH "Hawaii" OG "Kahului". The letter K is used by ICAO for the 48 lower states. So, K "United Staes" DFW "Dallas/Fort Worth." There are probably other difference, but I always just use the FAA codes, with is usually mirrored by IATA, so I never really pay much attention to the ICAO codes.

At 31:38 a parking garage comes into view in lower left corner that has the circular ramps. I've gone to that garage specifically to watch Lufthansa A380 and Air France A380 depart.
It was. United has a 3D seat map view for this aircraft and layout. So, I thought I knew what I was getting my self into. That said, the window placement is NOT correct on their 3D seat maps hahaha. I now know that. It meant my arm was in a strange position for most of this flight. Thank goodness that small work area is there. I was able to lay my arm on that to help. I actually did use my RAM mount to hold the camera, but it wasn't attached to the aircraft. I was still holding the mount, which was keeping the camera steady where I wanted it. So, I'm sitting, my arm is extended across the table, holding my mount, which is holding my camera. It was something else haha. Thanks for watching my friend!

Only if you pay for it haha. It's still available, but you have to buy it ahead of time. The only time I've been on flights where leis were given out were inaugural flights.
It was definitely a treat. And unlike some past first class flights where I did "luck" out with upgrades, I paid for this one at full price. So, please show this video some love haha. It cost a lot to make 😂.
Very unusual indeed. I've flown in and out of HNL many times now, and this was only the second time I'd ever seen reserve operations. The other time I wasn't flying.
Why was the "Reverse Operations" a rare feat to see ??... Is it because of the way the wind was blowing in at the airport ?? One posting here said, "Look at the reflection on the engine. You can see the gears coming down" What gears is he talking about ?? Is he talking about the wheels coming out of the wheel well ??
So, airports like Honolulu have pretty much the same wind patterns all year round. This is thanks to the Pacific trade winds. It's pretty rare that a weather system is strong enough to overpower those trade winds. Since aircraft land into the wind, that means that 95% of the time aircraft pass over the island, make a 180, and then come in to land on either 8R or 8L. However, there are always exceptions, and when you get what the locals call "Kona Winds" it reverses the flow of HNL because the Kona Winds are the rare times when the trade winds are overpowered. Meaning aircraft land directly over Waikiki on 26R. It happens more in the winter months, but even then it's rare. I've flown in or out of HNL 87 times. And this is the only day I ever got a reverse flow. And I've witnessed it on one other occasion when I wasn't flying. And then yes, they're referring to the main gear. You can see their reflection when they come down in the engine if you watch in 4K.
Breakfast out of SFO looked very good. I can't figure out the second service. Looked like a small cornbread muffin on a napkin. Was that really another "small meal?'
So the second service was really just a snack. It was a cookie actually. Kind of a cookie/muffin thing haha. It was actually really good, but no it wasn’t supposed to be s full meal. The breakfast was really good though.
You'd be surprised. A lot of people watch the entire video as white noise while they work, or even to help them relax/sleep. I'm always surprised by the reasons people give for watching the entire video.
I use a 20,000 mAh battery pack. After takeoff I plug the camera in. Since the area around the window stays cold due to the low outside air temperature, it keeps the camera cool enough to not overheat. As for a mount, it’s my left or right arm, depending on which side of the aircraft I’m on. Mounts transfer too many vibrations into the camera for my liking.
It wasn't. Although that does look suspiciously like a mountain, I believe that just a darker cloud. Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa are both on the island of Hawaii or the Big Island as it's known. Base on our approach, if they were visible, they would've been on the left side of the aircraft. Thanks for watching my friend!

People really watch five hours of this? Using round numbers. 47k views x 5.5 hours = 258,500 hours of view time. 258,500/8766 (hours in a year) = 29.5 years. What could be accomplished if 47k people used thirty years worth of time differently?
No, most people don't watch the full 5+ hour video. But, some do. Most of the people who do, use it for the white noise to help them sleep, relax, or have on in the background while they work. Other people use them because they have a fear of flying, and seeing the whole process from start to finish helps ease their concerns. The majority of people skip to the part of the video they're interested in though. The takeoff, landing, or what the seat is like. This video has about 15,000 hours of watch time for those 47,000 views. Which is far less than the 260,000 it would be if everyone watched the whole thing. So that's 2 years as opposed to 29 years. TH-cam counts the view as long as someone stays on the video for longer than 30 seconds and as I mentioned, most people who watch for extended periods of time are either sleeping, relaxing, or working while they watch. So, I don't think we've lost much productivity due to this video haha. Thanks for watching my friend.

Runway direction depends on the winds. With some rare exceptions, aircraft always land into the wind. It's safer, and they can approach slower. Many airports have variable winds all year. Other airports have very regular, strong winds. HNL is one that usually has strong westerly winds. However, sometimes those winds switch direction, and that's when you see a reverse flow landing like here. It's rare in Honolulu, but if the winds switch direction, so does the traffic pattern at the airport .
I currently use iPhone 12 Pros to record everything you see on my channel. I travel with two 512GB examples, and I don't use them for anything other than filming. That said, I just ordered a brand new 1TB iPhone 13 Pro. It should be here on Monday. That will take over as my primary camera as soon as it comes in. People are often surprised when I say I film with iPhones. I get all kinds of comments like, "you film with a phone?" And yes, I do. But, iPhones have some of the best cameras possible. It's one of the reasons why they're so expensive. In fact, I don't use any of the cellular features on any of my filming iPhones. They stay in their cases until it's time for a flight, and they get put away again afterwards. I tell people, I have expensive cameras that could also make a phone call in a pinch haha.
I know not everyone knows all of the FAA airport codes. Unfortunately, TH-cam limits the number of characters in a title to 100. That's not a lot. The cities, using the FAA codes, is the easiest part to abbreviate since they have universal codes already. There is a lot of information I need to convey in the title, and there's just not enough room to spell out the cities. If I spelled out San Francisco to Honolulu, that's 1/4th of my title space gone. I then would have to abbreviate other things that would be even harder for people to figure out, or I'd have to cut information completely. So, to fix this, I list the full city and state along with the FAA abbreviation in every video description, where I elaborate on all of the information provided in the title. I know it's not perfect, but if you ever have questions you can save the extra google search by expanding the video description. Thanks for watching my friend!
Well, in this instance I use my RAM mount to assist me. The mount holds the camera but isn’t attached to the plane. I hold the mount, which keeps the camera pointed in the right direction. I do this by resting my arm on the little table/work area you can see when I show the seat. First class seats can pose some interesting challenges but I always come prepared. So, I do use my mount occasionally to get a better angle or make it easier for me to reach a window, but I still hold it with my hand.

It's the weight of the plane leaving SFO with all of that fuel that gets me. And landing in HNL it must feel so light that it would practically float.

The last time I landed at HNL was in a Hawaiian 763 from PHX and we landed on runway 4R.

SFO ranks among the top few on my list of favorite airports to hang out. I'm hoping to make it back there someday if I can recover soon.

Great fly! On airport article on Wikipedia, they list ICAO airport code and IATA airport code. What's the difference between IATA and ICAO airport code?
IATA and ICAO are both International organizations. However, ICAO or the International Civil Aviation Organization is a branch of the Untied Nations. Basically a governmental agency. IATA or the International Civil Aviation Organization is a non-governmental agency that is more air carrier based. Off the top of my head, I believe the main difference is the IATA code is only three letters where the ICAO code is four. Also, I believe the ICAO codes are actually generated to denote exactly where an airport is in the world based on the first letter or two, whereas IATA codes are just designed to be similar to the cities name. For example. Kahului's IATA code is just OGG, which mirror the FAA code. Whereas the ICAO for Kahului is PHOG. So why is IATA and the FAA OGG and ICAO is PHOG? Well, The PH in the ICAO code denotes that the airpot is in Hawaii. Then they just used the rest of the FAA code, so PH "Hawaii" OG "Kahului". The letter K is used by ICAO for the 48 lower states. So, K "United Staes" DFW "Dallas/Fort Worth." There are probably other difference, but I always just use the FAA codes, with is usually mirrored by IATA, so I never really pay much attention to the ICAO codes.

At 31:38 a parking garage comes into view in lower left corner that has the circular ramps. I've gone to that garage specifically to watch Lufthansa A380 and Air France A380 depart.

It was. United has a 3D seat map view for this aircraft and layout. So, I thought I knew what I was getting my self into. That said, the window placement is NOT correct on their 3D seat maps hahaha. I now know that. It meant my arm was in a strange position for most of this flight. Thank goodness that small work area is there. I was able to lay my arm on that to help. I actually did use my RAM mount to hold the camera, but it wasn't attached to the aircraft. I was still holding the mount, which was keeping the camera steady where I wanted it. So, I'm sitting, my arm is extended across the table, holding my mount, which is holding my camera. It was something else haha. Thanks for watching my friend!

Only if you pay for it haha. It's still available, but you have to buy it ahead of time. The only time I've been on flights where leis were given out were inaugural flights.

Why was the "Reverse Operations" a rare feat to see ??... Is it because of the way the wind was blowing in at the airport ?? One posting here said, "Look at the reflection on the engine. You can see the gears coming down" What gears is he talking about ?? Is he talking about the wheels coming out of the wheel well ??
So, airports like Honolulu have pretty much the same wind patterns all year round. This is thanks to the Pacific trade winds. It's pretty rare that a weather system is strong enough to overpower those trade winds. Since aircraft land into the wind, that means that 95% of the time aircraft pass over the island, make a 180, and then come in to land on either 8R or 8L. However, there are always exceptions, and when you get what the locals call "Kona Winds" it reverses the flow of HNL because the Kona Winds are the rare times when the trade winds are overpowered. Meaning aircraft land directly over Waikiki on 26R. It happens more in the winter months, but even then it's rare. I've flown in or out of HNL 87 times. And this is the only day I ever got a reverse flow. And I've witnessed it on one other occasion when I wasn't flying. And then yes, they're referring to the main gear. You can see their reflection when they come down in the engine if you watch in 4K.

Breakfast out of SFO looked very good. I can't figure out the second service. Looked like a small cornbread muffin on a napkin. Was that really another "small meal?'
So the second service was really just a snack. It was a cookie actually. Kind of a cookie/muffin thing haha. It was actually really good, but no it wasn’t supposed to be s full meal. The breakfast was really good though.

Because it was very awkward to hold the camera on this flight with the way the windows were set up. So, once I go tit set up, I just didn't move haha.

How did you have enough battery to film this?
How did you mount the camera?
I use a 20,000 mAh battery pack. After takeoff I plug the camera in. Since the area around the window stays cold due to the low outside air temperature, it keeps the camera cool enough to not overheat. As for a mount, it’s my left or right arm, depending on which side of the aircraft I’m on. Mounts transfer too many vibrations into the camera for my liking.

It wasn't. Although that does look suspiciously like a mountain, I believe that just a darker cloud. Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa are both on the island of Hawaii or the Big Island as it's known. No, most people don't watch the full 5+ hour video. But, some do. Most of the people who do, use it for the white noise to help them sleep, relax, or have on in the background while they work. Other people use them because they have a fear of flying, and seeing the whole process from start to finish helps ease their concerns. The majority of people skip to the part of the video they're interested in though. The takeoff, landing, or what the seat is like. This video has about 15,000 hours of watch time for those 47,000 views. Which is far less than the 260,000 it would be if everyone watched the whole thing. So that's 2 years as opposed to 29 years. TH-cam counts the view as long as someone stays on the video for longer than 30 seconds and as I mentioned, most people who watch for extended periods of time are either sleeping, relaxing, or working while they watch. So, I don't think we've lost much productivity due to this video haha. Thanks for watching my friend.

Why did they use that runway for landing instead of the normal one we used to see
Runway direction depends on the winds. With some rare exceptions, aircraft always land into the wind. It's safer, and they can approach slower. Many airports have variable winds all year. Other airports have very regular, strong winds. HNL is one that usually has strong westerly winds. However, sometimes those winds switch direction, and that's when you see a reverse flow landing like here. It's rare in Honolulu, but if the winds switch direction, so does the traffic pattern at the airport .

I currently use iPhone 12 Pros to record everything you see on my channel. I travel with two 512GB examples, and I don't use them for anything other than filming. That said, I just ordered a brand new 1TB iPhone 13 Pro. It should be here on Monday. That will take over as my primary camera as soon as it comes in. People are often surprised when I say I film with iPhones. I get all kinds of comments like, "you film with a phone?" And yes, I do. But, iPhones have some of the best cameras possible. It's one of the reasons why they're so expensive. In fact, I don't use any of the cellular features on any of my filming iPhones. They stay in their cases until it's time for a flight, and they get put away again afterwards. I tell people, I have expensive cameras that could also make a phone call in a pinch haha.
Many of the city airport initials I don't know; it would be nice if you'd actual name the cities as well.
I know not everyone knows all of the FAA airport codes. Unfortunately, TH-cam limits the number of characters in a title to 100. That's not a lot. The cities, using the FAA codes, is the easiest part to abbreviate since they have universal codes already. There is a lot of information I need to convey in the title, and there's just not enough room to spell out the cities. If I spelled out San Francisco to Honolulu, that's 1/4th of my title space gone. I then would have to abbreviate other things that would be even harder for people to figure out, or I'd have to cut information completely. So, to fix this, I list the full city and state along with the FAA abbreviation in every video description, where I elaborate on all of the information provided in the title. I know it's not perfect, but if you ever have questions you can save the extra google search by expanding the video description. Thanks for watching my friend!
how do you hold your hand there for so long?
Well, in this instance I use my RAM mount to assist me. The mount holds the camera but isn’t attached to the plane. I hold the mount, which keeps the camera pointed in the right direction. I do this by resting my arm on the little table/work area you can see when I show the seat. First class seats can pose some interesting challenges but I always come prepared. So, I do use my mount occasionally to get a better angle or make it easier for me to reach a window, but I still hold it with my hand.
