I'd love to see a whole video on that bass vi. It seems like the perfect bass for a guitar player to pick up. I've always wanted one, but I'm left handed and dont have the money for a custom shop. I've thought about finding a lefty 30" baritone and throwing bass vi strings on, but that might be just as hard to find. I'll probably just end up flipping one hendrix style one of these days.

Mathew does a better job showcasing a guitars tone than any channel that I follow. I'm glad that he kept the tags on them to imply he was advertising. I have Vintera 50s pups in my HWY1.
Remembering back to the years when I used to play a lot, the 7 1/4"r fretboards would never cramp up my fretting hand like a 12"r would after a few hours non-stop. Other players would experience the opposite or no difference at all.
It's such a personal thing each of us have to find out for ourselves by getting those hours in.
Then again, even though I didn't like it as much sometimes new riffs and even whole new songs would come out of the 12"r that I would find harder to play on my 7 1/4"r.

Nice. Ordered one of these Strats in Olympic White.
I just recently bought a Player series Strat in the buttercream finish with a maple fretboard and I love it. The fretwork is flawless, it has the Fender branded tuners and a synthetic bone nut, which is cut perfectly. It honestly has exceeded my expectations in most every way. It just goes to show how good the Mexican Fender's are nowadays. It looks, feels and sounds just like an American Strat, but it only cost me about 900 after tax. I'm normally a metal guy, but I love Strats for Surf and this guitar has pretty much everything a Surf guitarist could want.
I have the exact same one and it's the best guitar I've ever played

I also have a player series strat. It's essentially the same exact guitar as the old American standard strat, just made in Mexico. Extremely good guitar, played a few American ones and didn't really feel that they were all that much better.
The bridge pickup is much better than I expected

I think from a vast sea of bloody noses 😂 buy the American is you can. I look at the American version as a half off custom shop and this one as a half price American 😂

The Bass VI is such a fun intstrument! I have a Squier Classic Vibe version. I can make one really great suggestion here first off, put LaBella flatwounds on there, just trust me and then get a pro set-up. And absolutely mess around with a capo. That's all. Just trust me on the strings and set-up, world of difference what an absolutely fun and different instrument that Bass VI is!
A lot of respect for you Matthew, that even as a "Fender guy" you didn't allow them to "buy" you. Probably a lot of other youtubers if they were given a brand new guitar would say only pros- not cons. So huge respect for honesty and for being still the same and real!

The fender/squire bass VI are brilliant, but you need the flatwounds on them, then they will nail that 60s clicky/rubbery tone

Hey Matt awesome as always. Just checking out these vintera strat for a back up option. It seems to suggest on the fender videos that the 60s strats have a vintage taper neck? I assume thats not the case?

The finishes on these necks look better than my AV2 1961. The color is similar to my older NOS Custom Shop that's darkened a little over time but not overly tinted like the AV2. Looking forward to next year if they do a Road Worn Vintera 2!

I like the Strat but was a little surprised that you didn't shred it like you do your vintage sunburst. Still a great video as always.
You are a cool guitarist Matt and you have some cool guitars , when you play those , there is a passion in your playing.
I’m not seeing the same passion when you play this Strat , it sounds ok looks very cool and I’m so pleased Fender have gone back to Rosewood , but at over £1000 street price !!!!
I made a partcaster out of two squier california series / SE basically into that guitar, nitro lpb, all the electronics and aging the neck

The SIX must be played on the Showman reverb! Both clean and with overdrive, and stupid LOUD!!!!
Nice, adding new products to the mix is good, would love to hear some affordable 20-40 watt heads, cabinets and combos like Friedman, Suhr, Marshall, Electro Harmonix, and others.
Edge of break up, clean, loud for gigging, ODs, Blues Rock, and strats.
I bought the blackstar 60 watt 2x12 about 2 months ago and it's killer! Plus I has a vintage amp eq knob that goes from fender clean to vox to Marshall tone. Peace buy 1 you'll love it

I never understood the stamping serial number on the heel plate. It would be SO easy to fake that or swap plates out or something to fool someone and obscure the model of the guitar. I've always liked the serial logo on the headstock even on American made guitars since it feels like the guitar has permanent record from the factory of what it is. It's like stamping the VIN on the chassis of a car from the factory rather than bolting a little plate on in the engine bay...
And I understand that putting it on the neck plate is the vintage correct way of doing it, but they were not concerned with fakes or authenticity back then I would argue.
70 years later I've still never seen a properly faked neckplate 😂
I see your point, but don’t forget that on Fender guitars necks can be easily swapped too so it is just as easy to get a fake regardless of where the serial number is located.

my number one is Fender rarities Tele. the number IS stamped on the neck-plate. kind of neat and related; the serial starts in LE for limited edt. then the first number is a zero. so stamped below the big, backwards F on my beautiful telecaster is, of course, LE0. gotta love it!
The Strat sounds great, but everything that Matthew plays sounds great. The new models should be ideal as instruments to take out and play for anyone on a budget and not worry about it getting used and enjoyed. I'm surprised by the narrower frets as it feels like most people prefer wider frets these days and value playability over strict vintage details.
I have an older MIM Strat which is perfect for everyday use. I swapped the squarer buttoned tuners (that worked fine) for ones with more oval shaped buttons that just seemed to suit it better and changed the (zinc) trem block for a steel Callaham one. I think that the steel blocks improve the tone but concede that it could be psychological. Only small issue that I've had is the 'skunk stripe' on the back of the neck raising or moving very slightly from the surrounding maple on its bottom edge. Just enough to notice with my hand, but not a serious problem.
Do I hear some fret buzz on that Strat? Thanks for the reviews, they look great and rosewood is a much better option. Would've been better if they had nitro instead of gloss poly, but that's just me.

Plenty of pos switch options shown here Matthew. Some of the tones have a great twang, but I've heard Strats (incl on this channel) with much more gravitas in the tones, or 5 'vowel sounds' than this seems to have. Nice one Matthew! ⭐👍

I just bought an American Vintage II '61 in Vintage white and I love it, but hope I didn't pull the trigger too soon without trying these out. How do you think they compare?
The America Original is a better guitar. It's also "nitro". It will hold its value and doesn't have as many quirks as this guitar. Just depends if it's worth the upfront cost to you.
@MatthewScottmusic I was seriously looking at the vintera road worn with the nitro finish but didn't like the relic job (especially the dents around the jack socket) and also preferred the look of rosewood over Pau Ferro. I had also been keeping an eye out for the classic 60s lacquer strat, but they rarely come up for sale here 2nd hand, so the AVII '61 was really the only option to tick all the boxes. I got a good deal (ex demo so the store dropped 25% off the price) so I really can't complain.
That Strat is a stunner.
I’m looking for a Strat with a Rosewood board. The rosewood on these new V2 models are not consistent with lighter streaks on lots of them. I don’t like that. I’d never buy one online in case I got a pig.

Really liking what I am seeing of this new Vintera II series - I think overall a better value than the AVII guitars and better specs and choices than the Player series. A bit surprised at the prices for Mexican guitars, but if they are quality then they are worth it. Remember - a Fender guitar has always been a luxury item. A 1960's era Strat would cost the equivalent of $2600 in today's dollars and they were half the average US monthly salary when they were new. The reality is the guitars are not priced out of line.
How is this a better value than the AVII? They’re just less expensive.
@@ryangunwitch-black Thought I responded to this but it seems to have disappeared. I disagree - value and price are related but two different concepts. As even Matthew pointed out in the video, for double the price for the AVII series, you really don't get much more of a guitar than the Vintera IIs. If the AVIIs were only a couple hundred dollars more, you might have an argument but they are double the price. Therefore the Vintera IIs - IMO - provide a much better value for the money spent.

frets are a major issue with these! did fender use this size fret in the 60s at all? any usa strat ive ever seen or owned had bigger frets.
I have a Fender Deluxe Roadhouse MIM Strat. And I love it. The fret-board is Pau Ferro, (Bolivian Rosewood) Pretty sure that's what's on these guitars here.
It comes stock with a built in adjustable pre-amp, (sounds like a P90) with an on/off button in the first tone knob, with noiseless Texas pickups. It screams.
It has the mint pickguard, locking tuning keys and a feature I really love on my Jeff Beck Strat, the contoured cut where the neck is attached.
These are rosewood, not pau ferro.
@@sagittated The Vintera 2 series Stratocaster which Matt is playing here, comes with a Pau Ferro Fretboard.
@@Above-Ground Well, I'm not going to have them lab tested, but the listing at Fender's website claims not just rosewood, but "slab rosewood." Same with the fender videos promoting the series. Fender does not have any hesitation to label them as Pau ferro when they are, so it seems unlikely they are confusing the two or calling pau ferro "rosewood" for marketing purposes.

I'd check one of the Teles out. I have a 2013 Am Std Strat, that sounds amazing to me. I don't like the baseball bat necks on some of the vintage Fender reissues. Also prefer a flatter radius, but not that important.
I haven't seen one in the flesh yet, but for the most part, these should be very good - even better with the rosewood switch. Maybe upgrade the bridge?
7.25 radius sometimes requires a lil more height on the action, due to "fenderitis choke out"

raw 3 piece bodies from Woodtech Routing (Ohio, 135$) , necks from Allparts MIJ (nice Fender licensed 120$), Klein pickups (Texas, 250$) ,... is a starting recipe for building a top notch guitar for about $650. I use vintage style tuners (The Stratosphere, 20-30$) Pickguard/Plastics (20$) Bridge (30-80$).
Woodtech's 3 piece alder bodies are very well cnc routed, for 135$. I think 3 piece body is my favorite perhaps cause there's no glue between neck and pickups. Raw Vintage saddles and springs are sounding very good to me. I prefer a 7.25 radius. 2-7/32 bridge string spacing with steel block, and a 1-5/8 bone nut helps the wider bridge spacing not contribute to string roll off of "E and e" strings at higher frets. Tru Oil makes for a great finish one can leave as thin as anything. I even left one of my strats' body's without any finish...just wood. Used a few light coats of tru oil in back of neck. Looks and feels great as it gets worn and dirty.

What is a mid 60’s C? I consider a 57 V thin…. Is it Am Pro II size C or thinner?
Seems like they've got darker Rosewood and lighter bodies than the American Vintage line. I've been holding out on getting one because they're all coming in at around 8lbs or higher (saw one last week that weighed over 9lbs!). Hopefully, that will change foe the better.

Now I know what I want for my birthday... My second Fiesta Red bass. In the '90s I had a MIJ Fender Bass VI that I bought new for as I remember it was for a very good price. I was an idiot because a few years later I sold it. Those sell for about $2,500 to $3,000 these days. Damn, I'm an idiot.
I have a1993 made in Japan strat lake placid blue
Tested the Bass VI a few months back but returned it 30min later...The idea of having 6 strings an octave lower then a standard guitar caught my attention. The guitar was nicely finished, but the intonation was far off from Fenders own factory setup and hard to adjust to acceptable levels. The construction of this type of tremelo made things worse. The sounds were ok, but none of the pickup settings blew my mind. Maybe a hardtail version and high end pickups could do the trick in the future. Thanks for the strat demo.
It's the strings. Need more tension. Don't have to use the vibrato. But yeah the Bass VI needs a bit of work. Not surprised someone would move on from it very quickly.
