Andrei yes the title is a bit of a bait but I think you should look at your infrastructure improvements, roads rail, air, mmmm why do you think that is happening? A lot of that was ID pre 2012 and tested with the first US units doing road marches through Romania in 2016. MK started to come on line about 2015-16 mostly as a transfer point but the writing was on the wall then. and how many US troop are in Romania?
@@timschaming613 improvements != ready, roads got better, but not for war scenarios, even for civil cases is a mess, railways the same, the train goes slower in some areas than it did 50 years ago. Last year or two years ago, it took days for troops and other army stuff of NATO to cross the country to get near MK. We cannot lie to ourselves that we are getting ready. We just plan to get ready, but plans are just a wish put on a paper if they never move on. About those required X% from GDP that Romania already assigned for security matters, they were assigned but actually not spent, they moved to something else in economy. Politicians are busy with elections this year, in February 2024 army chief of staff (not sure if that's the right term) declared that there are no laws to actually shoot down drones in time of peace in Romania, asked for changes in legislation, nothing happened. The narrative is that we are in the best alliances from history, well that's great but not enough, you need to want and be able to defend yourself first before others are joining to help you - we are not able to that, sadly. I am Romanian and I am worried because even if the war will not start in 2-3 years, it will start later and I have two sons that by that time will have to join the army to fight/die for some lunatic ambitions. About this video... the title of this video should have been that NATO is improving its eastern flank with MK base not that Romania is getting ready. No time to pet ourselves on the shoulders thinking we are doing great. We are not, we never did before any big war happening around.
most of what we called Romanian cities and roads ware made during communist era, at that time actually Romania was making lots of money. The prob with his regime was suppression and his order to try and liquidates national debt with caused very hard times for the people. Not many people know the the western powers threaten him to pay the debts at an rate that was not reasonable for romanian people unless he would face trade embargoes. He fell into this trap. At that time romania had an powerful production economy now we buy stuff from others ... and are slaves of USA, France, Germany in more ways then we ware slaves of Soviets ....
Eastern European history in the 20th century is somewhat clouded by the USSR's propaganda and immense information control. The USSR was much better at controlling these things than currently is Russia. That is because of the internet was not something with which the USSR had to contend. Today's information super freeway is extremely difficult (if not impossible) to control. That and the Iron Curtain did come down before the USSR disappeared.
@badluck5647 actually no. When the soviet union rolled tanks into Czechslovakia, we actually went against moscow and criticised this decision publicly.
As a NATO member Romania is not getting ready for war with anyone. NATO is a defense alliance, worst case scenario, IF attacked, NATO is getting ready to defend its members against any threat.
Yep thats what ppl like this guy do they spread hate between people and this is how they actually make wars ... idk why youtube not ban everyone spreading fake news like this from platform ... Romanians are always for peace they dont want war with anyone we are neighbors and they were always friends trough history not like bulgarians that would backstab their own mother for money
@raa6504 having a plan "just in case", considering Romania, like many other countries is part of NATO is one thing, but the title of the video makes it sound like the Romanian involvement is inevitable. It's very clickbaity and misleading.

Romanian defense procurement looks like a slow start, but right now it's in talks with South Korea for a major industrial investment. Romanians hate Russia with a passion. Even so, most likely the support for Russia was never this high in the last 100 years. The pro-Russian parties will easily have 25% in the next parliament.
NATO has been countering Russia in the Black sea since the early 2000's, it's the major cause of the Ukranian war and annexation of Crimea, whenever Russia losses politically they go straight to brute force. The US and UK could've prevented the war by reiterating that they guaruntee Ukraine's borders like they signed in Bucharest during the 90's to do, they chose not to and let the war happen despite knowing months in advance. Some things were meant to happen the world isn't black and white but different shades of grey, we aren't the good guys or bad guys just a team playing for the win.
@russianscapegoat The difference is, US has no interest with imperialism in Cuba and Mexic while Russia always wants its empire as far as it goes. Romania, Bulgaria, Poland are right to prepare.

Romania has a different geography than Poland. Firstly it has the Carpathians going through it. Any land attack from the East has to go through the Focşani gap. And Romania has been warning NATO allies about the importance of the Black Sea area since the times of president Băsescu. We hope that being militarily strong, that will be a deterrent for any intention of attack and will prevent a war.
Romania is not a country who goes into wars. we go to protect our country and what we do rn is defense ourself to any potential attacks from Rusia in the future
Every country its important and this video explain why this nato want this base there.Poland, Finland and the baltic countries need to be super protected by the land, Romania should be prepared to stop anything that comes close on black sea because on land our geography its our natural defence allie.why that?because we have time for reinforcement to arive in case of an invasion.on the other part of the map baltics and poland need their own forces to resist till the reinforcement arive.
As a foreigner that often comes to Romania, and has seen what amazing landscapes it has, it's a pitty the military has been neglected for so long as much as it has been neglected... Romania needs to wake up and wreak chaos on possible incoming ruzzian drones/planes/naval ships.
romania had puppet-governances in row, all the elections since 2000 were stollen for an army you need money but all the foreign companies (2/3 of the economy) are declaring zero profit and no institution dares to controll them if you are so cocky why don't you volunteer for the nazis in kiev? there is a great need for stupid soldiers there, they will put you directly in the front line, no training included
All European countries neglected theire armies and focused their money on economy growth. After 2014 when the ruski tacking Crimea, well the situation changed.
I think that part of that neglect was intentional. Romania was an important target for the Russian hybrid war. At least some of the politicians were under the Russian payroll. If I were FSB, I'd be stupid to not do so.
That's funny , that's the name of our national anthem " Deșteaptă-te române " Wake up Romanian " 😂😂😂is very funny because most of the population of Romania is still asleep , dreaming 😂😂😂
Usualy we(Romanians) are an artilery force. Not quality but great quantity(for our size, compared to hungary), artilery with aircraft would be the best response to the russian tanks, or at least was before most of them got destroyed.
ai grija ca altileria s-a schimbat decand am facut noi armata si acum o avem chiar de foarte buna calitate dar este advarat ca romania merge pe artilerie anti tank si aviate cu accent aviatie ..si nu este rau deloc
Romania has a lot of spec=ops forces that will adopt the same strategy as their ancestors thousands of years ago. This is why they are still there and have survived numerous invasion forces during their history.
In relation to the naval forces, Romania will buy two new French submarines, I think the ones that were supposed to be for Australia. 2 new corvettes. 2 frigates T-22 modernize, 3 missile carrier ships upgraded with NSM missiles. At the moment, 10 warships are being built in our shipyards for other NATO countries such as the Netherlands.
Romania investing in Air Power first is the much smarter bet. The air force is just as useful on Land as it is on the Sea. Frigates would have been effective at Sea but have limited uses over land.
Nah man. The unification between east and west germany almost bankrupted the german economy, and it is Germany. If Romania does this, my country will collapse
We can't from a multitude of points. Even with EU help we would barely be able to function economically, and while we stay against Russia we are by no means yet a solid democracy or without major corruption. The difference is we choose the West while being corrupt.
With the advent of drones it seems like ships are really exposed. The naval drones are spooky. Air power w/ advanced air to surface systems are another nasty addition to Romanian potential. All w/o the enormous cost of building a nnaval fleet. Makes sense. And then there is AI.

If you know Romanian history, they saved Europe from the Moors (or Muhammadans) and their march of conquering, where other countries failed (looking at you Italy and Greece!), Romania (practically single-handedly) turned the tide of history. Recently (and unfairly) castigated by some countries, Romania has now stepped-up to the plate as a major opposition to another potential invader of Europe, the Russian/N.Korean alliance, and it's their neighbour, Hungary, who's now the 'black sheep' of Europe.
Romania never fought any Moors, Romania is literally on the other side of Europe compared to where the Moors where. Also Romania spend almost the whole middle ages as an Ottoman subject, and only became independent once Russia and Austria have weakened them enough.
You shouldn't be so hard on Greece and Italy. And you should also recognize the role of Poland and Hungary, and, even more, the Balkan countries in stemming the Ottoman tide. The Ottoman expansion was a gradual one. Countries and peoples situated closer to Turkey suffered most and were conquered earliest. Romania was pretty much on the edge of where the Ottomans were able to effectively project force. That's why the Romanian principalities were never conquered, like Serbia and Bulgaria. It's not because Romanians were in any significant way different from Bulgarians or Serbs. Greece and Italy were in the same position - Greece was accessible enough, from land from the Balkans and from the sea to be conquered, while Italy was just a hairline too far away. Poland and Hungary were too far away to be conquered and kept long term, like Bulgaria was, for example, but that doesn't mean the Ottomans didn't attempt to get there. With Hungary, they even got lucky - being a country with no mountains and no other significant east-west natural barrier, it was easily accessible for the large Ottoman armies of the time, and eventually fell. Even so, however, the Ottomans weren't able to stay there for long. Also, while I fully agree with you that currently Hungary is Russia's Trojan horse inside the EU and NATO (one of them, at least - Turkey also plays for Russia, at least occasionally, in NATO), I wouldn't blame it too strongly on Hungarians. Putin's Russia has conducted a covert war on democracies around the world since he came into power. Russian money earned directly inside the targeted countries by businesses opened locally with Russian money was used for two decades to spread misinformation, to bribe local politicians, to support and subordinate local organized crime and to sow distrust and hate. Hungary is a small country, nowhere near as wealthy as other Central European or Western European countries, and its more painful memories of Russia (1956, for those who know) are older and less vivid than those of the even smaller Baltic countries. Therefore, Putin's misinformation and manipulation warfare was more effective in Hungary than it was in larger countries, like Poland and Romania (which had their own close and dangerous encounters with the threat of new dictators like Orban), or in the Baltics, which remembered Russian oppressive rule more vividly. Once Russia falls, and Russian money abroad becomes scarce, Russia's influence abroad will falter too, and eventually Hungary will return to democracy.
@@clawy99 The term "Moors" was also used for Muslims, Arabs, Ottomans. In the middle ages there were 3 Vlach (the older name given to Romanians) principalities, not Romania, which were vassals to different empires. Transylvania, for ex, being on the other side of the Carpathian Mountains, a natural border, was easier to defend and has been a part of Hungary/of The Austro-Hungarian Empire. They've always been against the Ottomans and never lost an occasion to fight for independence, so they always helped anyone fighting them, when they could, or even fought them alone, even being their vassals. So, they've actually helped the Russians, Austrians, and all others weaken, fight and finally defeat the Ottomans, just as other countries did.
Deterrance in the black sea, all good... What about Romania helping Moldova in kicking Russian troops out of Transnistria? And helping Moldova in the fight for the information space.
Romania already helps Moldova in its fight against Russian intrusion in its computer systems - and not just Moldova - the EU Cybersecurity Competence Center is headquartered in Bucharest. It can't do much about Russian interference in mass media and funding pro-Russian politicians. And it can't put boots on the ground in Transnistria. Not because it's land forces are too small, but because there's no legal basis to do so. As a member of NATO and the EU, Romania is expected to stick to international law, and there's nothing that could be used to justify such a move. Unfortunately.
Russia can barely keep up with fighter jets. It had to completely stop SU 57s. Mind you a group of US F22s just recently got the jump on two of the few SU 57s. They bugged out...
@@shreder230The Sukhoi Su-57 fighter, nicknamed the “Felon” by NATO, was struck on the tarmac of an airbase in the Astrakhan region, almost 600 kilometers (372 miles) behind the front lines
The way things are currently going, I wouldn't rely too much on Turkey. I'd rather see Ukraine become a NATO member and, together with Bulgaria, cover the naval area. Ukraine would keep Russia inside the Azov Sea while Bulgaria in the Black Sea with Greece and Italy in the Mediterranean would make sure Turkey stays the line.

You mean the second Moskva. Cuz the first one hit the seabed during WWII from a single projectile fired at from a romanian warship during a soviet attempt to strike on Constanta at that time. Funnilly enough they're both located pretty close one from another now...finally where them both belong.
Imagine losing a bet among your admiral buddies and you need to tell Putin the ship sank, but by saying: "Sir, we decided to convert the Moskva to a submarine."
Even if the Romanian army strengthens its armaments, it is at the level of 300 tanks, 64 fighter jets, and 3 frigates, so it is unable to save other countries. NATO's eastern sconce role is the Polish army.
Sadly it won't.. it doesn't have the infrastructure yet and it doesn't have the number in military assets.. it would be a huge naval power if the ships would come on the Danube river. It wouldn't need to get permission from turkey to enter the Black Sea 🤌🏻

Alright, now that I have the time, here are some things I want to say about the video (there's a lot of content here, so there's quite a few things I have to say): - at 0:37 (or later on the video) you could've also mentioned the Russian drones that crashed in Romania as they were targeting Ukrainian ports on the Danube. I feel this is pretty important especially since you mention the focus on air power in the video. And especially since the draft law that would allow for drones to be shot down was passed to Parliament recently. - 3:30 not probably, it was already announced that defence spending will reach 3% of GDP in 2026 - 4:12 worth noting that the Abrams tanks won't be the only ones bought. Plans are to purchase up 300 tanks (with the K2 being a likely pick) - 5:49 adding that 32 F-35 are the first stage of the program with another 16 for the second stage, total of 48 F-35s by 2040. Likewise there will be 49 F-16s by next year, but they will be retired as the F-35s will get delivered. - 7:30 incorrect, MK currently does not have any Romanian F-16s. As of now, only Campia Turzii has the Norwegian F-16s, MK will station the second squadron of Norwegian F-16s (third squadron of F-16s overall) beginning next year. - 8:20 Russia is indeed worried as they should. One other thing to mention is that a large airbase like that + Romania purchasing the F-35s could lead to Romania joining the nuclear sharing agreement and stationing US bombs there. Nothing planned for now, but there have been hints for years that the US wants to move their nuclear arsenal from Incirlik in Turkey to somewhere else. And Romania might become that "somewhere else". - 10:09 Romania already hosts these. Ukraine can repair their F-16s here (they didn't try it yet, but could) in Bacau where the F-16 maintenance center is, while there's an F-16 training center in Borcea where Ukrainian pilots are also training now. Now, regarding the naval, air and ground aspects overall. Today's strategy can be traced back even to WW2 (more specifically talking about the campaign of 1941), when the Romanian navy acted mostly as a fleet in being, whose role was to defend the Romanian coast and the Danube Delta and it did so very well when the Romanian ships, coastal batteries and mine fields repelled a Soviet raid on Constanta and sank the destroyer Moskva (ironic name today). Regardless, the navy like the army and the air force is still going to get modernized and expanded these days, as there are plans for new OPVs and frigates besides the mentioned NSM missiles. It's just that the Navy was never the focus of the Romanian military. Going back to WW2, the air force was the best equipped and did the important job of ensuring air superiority over Bessarabia and during the siege of Odesa. And today, just like back then, the air force will play a crucial role in defending the country's skies as well as supporting the ground troops. As for the ground forces, while not that well equipped (for now) they will always work together with allied armies which as it happens just simulated an Article 5 response a few days ago and will do it again next spring.

But when Russians will invade they will go easy into a country with less population and weak army so yes it is time that the West invest and please note massive and accelerated and help the Romanian government to build their army and also the economy and the society . Romania defended for 550 years the West against the Ottomans ambitions to invade the Western Europe , and at huge costs for Romanian people , they are a nation of warriors but they do need help as hunderds of years of wars and communism have weakened the Romanian people . I agree with nato plan's to make the Romanian coastal military bases for aircraft and having coastal batteries of anti ship missiles is the right course of strategy to follow.
Romania was and it is different country never 👎 was in USSR …was in Varșovia pact something like half NATO now …but because our big our allies Russia invade cehoslovachia in 1968 …we think 🤔 a bit different about them and we know them …now if we are NATO we are strategic best choices for NATO planes with our pilots ….y tu o use our airport …but if you know strategical war airport in case of war will blow up first …then …is our risck …to keep this planes ✈️ to have safe flight ✈️ return …we never go in war with Russia …because soon 🔜 war will be finished
Russia's Black Sea Fleet is a bad joke, they keep losing ships to a nation that lost its single functional warship in the opening hours of the war. The Romanian Navy warships are probably sufficient to wipe out whatever remains without breaking a sweat. Romania is buying some additional warships, including a couple of modern submarines, but they won't really be needed. Betting on air power is actually really smart because it makes Romania very relevant in any war. Not only will Romania be able to support NATO allies anywhere on the Globe (planes can travel far faster and far easier than anything else pretty much anywhere and have a major impact), but since we're discussing Russia, they will cover 4 extremely important areas: 1) the F-35As and even the modernized F-16s can cover the air superiority and air dominance role, 2) Romania is getting what are some of the best multirole fighters ever built, so they will also be able to provide ground attack support to any NATO forces should Russia invade or should NATO join the war in Ukraine, 3) the F-16s can also carry the anti-ship missiles that will sink any Russian warship in the Black Sea, with a bit of help from helicopters and maybe even the Romanian Navy to take out any pesky Russian submarines and 4) host allied air forces in a place that will allow them to strike at a LOT of the areas where Russian targets will reside. Beyond that, the Romanian Army is modernizing its land forces. They may have bought only 54 Abrams MBTs, but they're likely to order around 300 K2 MBTs. They've also purchased hundreds of modern Piranha V IFVs, which they already manufacture and maintain locally. They will also purchase several hundred tracked IFVs. They have dozens of HIMARS systems and are getting more and it's quite likely that they'll get more K9 self-propelled artillery. Also, Romania has a fetish for IFVs that carry high-performance anti-tank guided missiles. Even their old stuff has exceptional Israeli ATGMs. This means that Romanian land forces will be very effective at tanking out any Russian armor that shows up, even without drones. That means that any opponent should have an exceptionally hard time punching through Romanian defenses before they get outflanked by highly mobile mechanized and armored brigades, turned to paste by K9 and HIMARS or made to glow in the dark by ground attack multi-role fighters. If the UK, Germany, Spain and Italy don't get their collective acts together, Eastern Europe may just make them look like they have armies that banana republics are usually known to have.
Your information related to armored forces are wrong. Romania has 54 of M1A2 Abrahms tanks, 31 of T72 Ural 1 MBTs and 415 of TR-77-580 which have improved firing systems that can direct hit from 4KM. In regards of air forces we have 49 of F-16. One thing that Romania has and will have as upper hand even Putin will decide to invade us , is the artilery forces that are over 1000 pieces. Until Putin decided to go full retard, we didnt put that much interest into military forces since Europe was and still is quite peaceful zone.
So, without a belligerent Russia, NATO loses it's reason to exist. And, of course, the need for this level of defense spending too. Unless all these western Euro countries get bored and start pointing their swords at each other, right? Good thing that's never happened.
STOP CREATING SUCH CLICKBAIT TITLES FOR A PROFIT ! NO ROMANIAN WANT TO TAKE PART OF ANY WAR. ANY ROMANIAN OR OTHER INDIVIDUALS THAT IS TRYING TO PUSH ROMANIA AND ITS PEOPLE INTO A WAR IS A PSYCHO.
Romania isn't getting ready for war with Russia, NATO is. Yet again we're most likely being forced into a conflict between the west and the east due to our geographic location. Of course we prefer the west when it comes down to it. We had a revolution in '89 because as a majority we naturally want human rights and liberty, but neither the west nor the east truly cares about or want what's best for us, we merely serve their purpose. If it were truly up to Romanians, all we wanted would be to live in peace and prosperity and not be pulled into any conflict from which WE never have anything to gain, only the super powers that historically always seek to use us.
Most Russians would also want to live in peace and prosperity. Yet they regularly put a crazy tyrant into power. It's very much in the interest of Romania to put an end to this Russian habit, or to the possibility of it happening again. Nobody has to force it upon us, should the opportunity present itself.

@@a0flj0 everywhere the west goes its the same old story about some kind of boogeyman the us has to protect everyone else from but its actually the US everyone has to fear isnt it?
@@operator9858 You got things mixed up. It's not us picking sides that puts us in the middle of things, it's us being geographically positioned at an important crossroads of strategic interests that forces us to pick sides. If we pick a side, hopefully that side will at least somewhat care about us. If we don't, neither side will care and we'll be a battlefield where nobody cares about us. It's never a good strategy to not pick a side when you're inevitably going to be in the middle. The only chance for long lasting peace, for us, is one side to become so extremely overpowered that the battlefield and the edge of strategic confrontation moves far to the east or far to the west. We had it moved far to the west during the cold war. We don't want those times to come back. That was indeed some sort of peace, but it was more harmful than war. We'd rather see it move far to the east, with Ukraine, Belarus and some republics in the Caucasus in NATO, with the confrontation moved into what's now Russian territory. That makes it pretty simple to pick a side.
@@a0flj0 ive always been led to believe otherwise. neutral states can avoid conflicts entirely in many cases as opposed to drawing them in and in the event someone does go after you then suddenly the other side is obligated to care as opposed to just regarding such states as bufferzones for the larger conflict.

@@hughjass1044 Hasn't happened yet, my point is that it should be considered.
Good idea.

If Russia invades Moldova too, then Romania will intervene to save Moldova
Even if the Romanian army strengthens its armaments, it is at the level of 300 tanks, 64 fighter jets, and 3 frigates, so it is unable to save other countries. NATO's eastern sconce role is the Polish army.
@@bangdoll4500 Consequently it is mandatory for Romania to strengthen its army as much as possible.
@@bangdoll4500 One possible outcome at that point would be an emergency annexation of Moldova; then it would be an article 5 situation.
Sadly it won't.. it doesn't have the infrastructure yet and it doesn't have the number in military assets.. it would be a huge naval power if the ships would come on the Danube river.
It wouldn't need to get permission from turkey to enter the Black Sea 🤌🏻
çok komiksin.
The sea can be controlled by ground based anti ship missiles. Ukraine has proven that. Air is far more efficient than building ships as well.
And naval drones.

Just another idiotic click-bait title.
Last thing i want to say thank you all the people in the comments as a fellow romanian it fells good to see so many people supporting the country best wishes for all of you🤗🤗🤗🤗
Alright, now that I have the time, here are some things I want to say about the video (there's a lot of content here, so there's quite a few things I have to say):
- at 0:37 (or later on the video) you could've also mentioned the Russian drones that crashed in Romania as they were targeting Ukrainian ports on the Danube. I feel this is pretty important especially since you mention the focus on air power in the video. And especially since the draft law that would allow for drones to be shot down was passed to Parliament recently.
- 3:30 not probably, it was already announced that defence spending will reach 3% of GDP in 2026
- 4:12 worth noting that the Abrams tanks won't be the only ones bought. Plans are to purchase up 300 tanks (with the K2 being a likely pick)
- 5:49 adding that 32 F-35 are the first stage of the program with another 16 for the second stage, total of 48 F-35s by 2040.
Thx for this info

western europe doesnt. Eastern Europe, the Baltics and Finland know whats behind the border
NATO absolutely does think strategically in every regard. Only, NATO is not a war machine - it's a defensive alliance of democratic states. Decision making is correspondingly slow and military action is often hampered by political and legal hindrances. This doesn't make NATO any less of the most powerful military alliance in the world, though 😁
NATO , NATO countries and EU must invest massive in Romania . I would say a trillion EURO , yes 1000 Billions . For the last 15 years they mostly talked and promoted just a few and low producing value projects to be build in Romania . And they destroyed the whole Romanian Industry and agriculture sectors , almost completely wiped out , such a shame . I am Romanian and Canadian , I was born and lived 27 years in Romania and emigrated to Canada 21 years ago and I know perfectly what's going on in those parts of the world . The West has underfunded the East especially Romania and 10 million people left the country going West this last 25 years or so . In the meantime the West heavily funded the West of course . Do it fast , and do it trully not just with nice talks , put the money where your mouth is . I am proud of being Romanian and of my Romanian people . Dumnezeu sa ajute poporul roman!

Why the click bait title?? Come on, dude....
2:18 is Romania catching up? What you betting?!
România doesn't have working T72 and the gun on their other tanks is too weak to hurt another tank, so they don't really have real tanks anymore
@victorradu9645 official documents from armored division my brother. Check them
So, without a belligerent Russia, NATO loses it's reason to exist. And, of course, the need for this level of defense spending too. Unless all these western Euro countries get bored and start pointing their swords at each other, right? Good thing that's never happened.
Good info and observation the only thing to add is the development of drone capability.
It is your option fighting with Russia but we need peace up here in Romania

Greetings from Poland, we are with you romanians, be strong!
If you know neither side will ever really care for you why keep picking sides when it guarentees to put you right in the middle of things? And you have noticed that your leaders live extravegant lifestyles havent you?
