I am unable to pick a side since l thoroughly have been enjoying both the output of Waters and Gilmour within and without Pink Floyd. Waters ranks among my favourite modern poets for the profound impact of his writing. The current reality is what it is.

Roger Waters was an essential part of Pink Floyd, but he was not Pink Floyd. The best example of this is that atrocity he released under the name "The Dark Side of the Moon Redux". He wanted to convince people that he was the mastermind behind the classic Dark Side of the Moon all along and that the other band members were disposable... Man, was he wrong.

Call me full of shit, but I knew that "Redux" would be shite even before I started listening. About 5 min. of it was all that I could take of that disaster. David, and to a lesser extent Rick, were the most talented Musicians in Floyd. David was always the Master and Craftsman in the Studio.
Without his talents, the Band would have never reached the heights of The Dark Side and Wish You Were Here. Even the execution of The Wall owed a lot to his Musical Skills and Production chops.
And he proved it with the Two Post-Waters proper Albums. As stated by others, the Lyrical content was always David's main weakness, but he's still a much more complete Musician than Roger ever was...

@@lsrocha3296 You're absolutely right, of course. He's not even an exceptional bassist. He's revealed his true nature over the years, that of a bad guy. He said himself that his solo career is a disaster, and that's saying a lot. His albums are duller than the rain.

It should be noted Nick Mason is totally neutral in the Floyd Wars--he played with Roger on his 2006 tour and Roger joined him on stage in NY during Nick's version of Early Floyd on tour. Nick also is the ONE last member legally entitled to the name PINK FLOYD. . Dave is still a 'member" of Pink floyd but chooses to say that entity is no longer valid.

You could say that for David and Rick too. The Floyd’s best music had important contributions from all three of them. Animals and The Wall are weaker without a significant contribution from Wright. The Final Cut is the weakest without significant contributions from Gilmour and Wright. The Division Bell’s weakness is lyrics and lack of unified vision from the absence of Waters. However, musically The Division Bell is stronger than any Waters post-Floyd album which shows the importance of Dave’s and Rick’s musical gifts.

It goes to show you just how powerful, relevant and popular Pink Floyd's discography is. Waters & Gilmour played together from sometime in 1968 to sometime in Feb/March 1983 when The Final Cut was released. Approx 15 years. In 2025 it will mark FORTY (40) years since they were bandmates yet people still ask them, "Will you guys ever play/record together again?" Forty years of them saying, "No! Not a chance..." Imagine being at your 40th Wedding Anniversary party and people keep asking you if you'll ever give your old Freshman year High School girlfriend a call. Asking, if you'll ever get back together? Post Barret Floyd was a combination of Water's sharp song writing, Gilmour's melodic guitar playing and Wright's unique soundscapes. Take any of those elements away and the band is no longer complete.
I have often heard it said that 'Animals' was the last truly great PF album. I have to agree. It is also often said that 'The Wall' built a wall between Waters and his bandmates. We can speculate how true that is or how much of that wall already existed. What we do know why that post-Barret Floyd never recovered from that album.

The 1980s claimed many creative bands from the 70s. Floyd were just one of them. People can blame fame or pressure but it was the 80s, which was unfriendly to anything they deemed "dated", which was almost everything in the 70s golden era of rock. Also, the other players in the band were more accomplished musicians than Roger, helping to give Roger's lyrical ideas brilliant musical support.

ALL shows were amazing, but I will have to admit that Rogers shows had that edge! (Especially the 2010 show which was The Wall) But the 1999 show showcased his entire career, and it was amazing to hear the final cut tracks live! A word on that album... the final cut was a Roger Waters album PERFORMED by Pink Floyd (other than the last track which has Andy Newmark on drums) What bugs me is most people try to lump that in as a Pink Floyd album. IT ISN'T! Listen to it with different ears, and you will LOVE this amazing release!

Rodger was the main problem there he wanted to control everybody him growing up without a dad was a very bad thing he developed habits on his own whether they was good or bad he need to realize he cannot control people he want to dismantle a band and what are the other players are supposed to do go and try to find another job because he want to dismantle the band he need to be thanking God that those two black men families have not sued him for using their relative name because it is public that it has been admitted where they got the name at I know it's a common name but he clearly stated who he took those names from so he really need to gather his thought and sit his butt down somewhere before he gets sued because if they were my relatives the two black men he was still being court today. And I've always said when David joined the band Rogers felt like that he can control him and everything but David did not let Rogers run over him. Rogers need to realize that David helped make that band as well, David has undescribable guitar skills. When a father does not have a relationship with his children that tells you something right there. And you cannot keep a wife and at his age he should know better 80 years on the planet and you have not done nothing positive.

There is no shredding or what have you in this solo, but the soul of his playing is what gave him this position. Legendary guitar players worldwide have stated that Gilmore has achieved this status because I quote ‘ he achieves more in one note than others do in a hundred ‘FACT - Gilmore not only played guitar on so many tracks but also played bass on the studio album recordings. The fact of the matter is the band WAS a collective effort. I respect Dave for choosing not to play Echoes ever again after Ricks death. Such is the respect David has for Richard.
