    I have been watching a show called Eat Well for Less and have been amazed by how many people spend too much money on food and what bad habits they have as families.Now your video it's exactly the opposite, you should go on the show to educate them, you'd be the queen of that show😉

    If you buy onions they cheaper and on a day that you have a little spare time cut them up and then freeze them yourself ..would be even cheaper ...also home brand things and fruit and veg from a market stall is a lot cheaper also

    Instead of the cheese try 2 eggs and a bit of parmesan next time ( you have to temper the eggs with some pasta water to make the sauce ) but its really good, my family love it.

    Just made the chick pea and rice curry. So tasty. Don't be afraid to nuts with the spices. I wasn't shy about the garahm masala in particular. I am also cooking a chicken I got reduced and will shred some of that up to have with it. Yum yum yum.

    • @KerryWhelpdale
      @KerryWhelpdale  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That garlic bread is a Tesco value brand. Tesco have rebranded there value range to make it look more up market.

    • @KerryWhelpdale
      @KerryWhelpdale  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes someone else told me this too..no think that’s great and I can honestly say I buy more value products now! I know that sounds like I was being snobby before and I kick myself for that.. rebranding can make such a huge difference :) xxx

    Use a food processor to chop your own onions then freeze. Also branded frozen pea is a rip-off. I buy Sainsbury's own that tastes the same.

    • @KerryWhelpdale
      @KerryWhelpdale  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haves special onion chopping machine now which is amazing :) worth every single penny!! I also buy own brand food.. I can’t ever taste the difference either.. so I buy that or whatever is on offer :) xxx

    also second comment i know, food in the US is so much more expensive! Cream cheese is like 2.50 here for non name brands and peppers end up being roughly $1 each.

    Tesco value rebranded as the Hearty Food Co, hence why the garlic bread is so cheap!:)

    The chickpea and spinach curry looked so delicious.

    • @KerryWhelpdale

      Oh did I not do that in this video? I usually do!! Oh actually.. unless I’m just cutting them roughly for a traybake!! I didn’t know that’s where the bitterness is so I’ll defo be doing that from now on :) thank you :) xxx

    I learnt this traditional carbonara recipe. It uses only 4 ingredients. Spaghetti, cheese, egg, bacon. Possibly add peas for some green is a good idea but you can get that really cheap. Just looking for inspiration for uni, have about £4 a day on food and i exercise a lot so I need a slightly different dietary profile to the average person. Great video, got my mind going on what I could do

    Without meaning to sound harsh , if u were really on the breadline and you didn't have all of this stuff ...you'd need to buy it so its more like at least a fiver - whole bag of peas ....whole thing of bacon for 1.50...whole bag of frozen onions...whole bag of this and that....when u could just as easily buy a single onion for less than 50p, a pack of cooking bacon -especially if she shops at tesco they sell it for about 75p, value spaghetti 20p ...use the creamfields stuff and you do not need fancy peas u can get value 1s they are about 55p. These recipes are great , but they are not reflective of a true price. The hearty food co is the rebranded "value" one -same as stockwells , sunnyfield farms...(or similar name). Shopping for a BIG family would for sure be more economical this way . But it is a very "middle class" guide, "a few pence doesn't count" i beg to differ madam when you are on the breadline it certainly DOES matter. But these recipes are ace , and are brilliant for those who want to reduce their spend , learn how to budget in a free way , and u r a mum on the internet putting out your view and doing a good job of it. So you do you,boo. Just wanted to point this out however. Constructive feedback , perhaps,rather than searing harsh criticism x

    I have one good recipe I recently discovered kind of by accident.
    All you need is potatoes, some ham/bacon/grated cheese and any form of fat (oil, lard, butter etc)
    1- Grease the bottom of a baking dish with the fat to prevent sticking and preheat oven to 200°C
    2- Slice up the potatoes very thin, and layer them with the meat/cheese till you fill the dish a little higher than the top of the dish sides. Season as you go.
    3- Top with a little oil/bits of fat and seasoning.
    4- Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour. If you like the top crispy, take off the foil for the last 20 mins of baking.
    5- Serve up with some peas, carrots etc on the side and gravy 😋
