I'm playing through Golden Sun for the first time in what has to be maybe 14 years because of the COVID-19 lockdown. As a composer I so deeply appreciate your work. As a gamer and enthusiast for Golden Sun-I've only played the first one-I'm impressed by the amount of care and detail you took. Bravo!
@@HamsterAtDawn My favorites from the Lost Age are Jupiter Lighthouse, Lemuria, Magma Rock, Temple of Kando, and Daila in that order. So, I quite like the Lost Age

I still dont understand why this is soooooooooo underrated. its just beautiful, perfect, a very good composition and arrangement! The cultural value which should be honored.
Because it's only on handhelds and it's sort of a new series that didn't get as widely advertised as it should have. Add that to it releasing on a handheld before the big Wii boom. The Wii and DS brought in new young Nintendo fans who never even got the chance to experience anything on the GBA or Gamecube, as a result it created a generational gap. So you have all these people in their early 20s online who never ever heard of the series and hate on Golden Sun calling it overhyped instead of underrated. I sound like a boomer. lol But it's true. Unless it's Pokemon or Sonic, they don't give a flip. It's like how more people today know Dawn of Sorrow on the DS but not it's prequel, Aria of Sorrow on the GBA. Drives me nuts sometimes.
Unfortunately, Nintendo JP recently stomped out licensed third-party sheet music arrangements: kotaku.com/nintendo-sheet-music-musicnotes-takedown-dmca-1851547320 So regrettably, licensed Nintendo arrangements are no longer available for purchase on Musicnotes :( The only place to get the sheet music now is via my Patreon (link in the video description), but those are Sibelius / XML files for notation software rather than PDFs.
Hey man! Nice job! I was wondering: is it possible to use it as BG for a podcast I'm hosting about Golden Sun? I'd love that (and the other tracks you arranged!) Thanks!
I REALLY LOVE your arrangements. I do a lot of video game arranging myself and really appreciate another classically trained musician doing this kind of stuff. Question: Why 3/4 and not 6/8? I'm very interested in hearing your perspective on things due to how well you orchestrate.
Hey there - thanks for the comment! As for your question: You do have a point! - The opening certainly could be scored in 6/8, it is quite ambiguous. My reasoning for using 3/4 there is mainly due to the harp; its material appears to emphasize 3 groups of 2 quavers (8th notes), which to me indicated a 3/4 meter. Although the other instruments have dotted crochets (8th notes), they didn't feel strong enough to decide the meter. That, and also when we get to 0:31, the melody and definitely appears to be in 3/4 (due to 3 crotchets at m.18). However, there are still dotted crotchets (m.21). So ultimately Sakuraba seems to be juggling between 3/4 and 6/8 throughout the entire track (juggling these groupings of 3 crotchets and 2 dotted crotchets). But because of the harp accompaniment that persists for quite a while, I feel that 3/4 comes out stronger overall (and would be easier to play for musicians!)

Interesting point. To me the ending of this composition's melody reminded me of Gary Moore's Parisienne Walkaways

@@AlphaXXI I'm playing it now! I dig some of the music, but so far I think the music from the original game is a bit better.
@@MariEsabel I think the best tracks are in the first game too, though Lost Age is by no means bad.

It’s beautiful. Isn’t it?
So much beautiful memory came back with this song!
Trying not to cry, this is so beautiful! Ah the memories, this is very outstanding work!
Where all started. Always and forever Golden Sun.
One of the most incredible videogame arrangement I've ever heard!! I hope Motoi Sakuraba will hear this also!!
This makes me hope for a Golden Sun remake that will never come. But I'm still hopeful anyway
STILL no Isaac in smash pretty much confirms Nintendo has no plans for anything Golden Sun. 😞

As someone who is getting into music, that detailed description of the song really helps.
This is amazing. If they did a remake of this game, this would have to be included. Excellent work, gave me goosebumps.
