    Hey Pete! I think you really give good audio haircuts man... you know the old saying to raise ones ears or something haha...
    But I think it's a funny thing that you said you were happy that you found that you were doing similar things to michael B... I remember learning that I was dialing in my amps and effects something quite similar to David Gilmour and the satisfaction that followed... I think when you're learning the bigger steps.. finding that your idols have found a similar path that you're finding... that's a tremendously good thing for an engineer or a musicians overall compass and confidence!

    Thnks for outstanding tutorial!! Here is one thing: Oxide tape produces phase shift and I cannot use it on parallel processings. May be it's only in Cubase 10.5

  • @elianmusic7452
    @elianmusic7452 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Pete! Sorry i must've missed it, but i'd love a reply!
    about how much GR are you doing per parallel compressor? I've found that the between 4-8 is good, anymore than that i can get distortion from my 1176 and other comps since im using super fast attack times.
    Any advice? Cheers!

    ANOTHER AWSEOME TUTORIAL!! THANKS!! Btw, can you make tutorial on how to mix female vocal on EDM like in this track: Far East Movement - Don't Speak ft. Tiffany & King Chain
    i'm interested to know how to mix that kind of vocal which has tons of effect but still sounds good. And also how to get that crunchy rasp vocal in the front of some words? thank you.

      Crimp Thanks, Crimp! I'll see what I can do 😊

  • @MrStandridge
    @MrStandridge 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome stuff as usual! Question...With all the compressors being used, do you still do volume automation on the vocals?

    • @MixBetterNowTV
      @MixBetterNowTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      sstandridge1976 Thank you! 😊 So, in short, yes. I automate my vocals in every mix. But how and where changes. For example, I'm sending all the verse vocals and chorus vocals (and their duplicated/parallel compressed tracks) to a bus here... I'm essentially using the bus as a VCA because it's on that fader that I'm going to ride my vocal volume on. So I set the verse an chorus vocal levels and then leave them alone. That way after that the only thing I have to move automation wise is that one fader. Work smarter not harder 🙌🏻 Ha. At least I try to. Hope that all makes sense ✌🏻😊👍🏻

    • @MrStandridge
      @MrStandridge 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Makes perfect sense man! With my limited knowledge, I was of the mindset that most folks automate before hitting the compressors for a more consistent level. Do you provide a mixing and/or mixing critique service?

    • @neovxr
      @neovxr 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      that would be interesting.
      who does automate directly at track input, who does it after the compressors, and why or when? what influence does that have on "style"?

    • @MixBetterNowTV
      @MixBetterNowTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      sstandridge1976 Absolutely do both! Shoot me an email and we can chat. My email is in the description 😊 I also give mix lessons too...

    • @MixBetterNowTV
      @MixBetterNowTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      neovxr The main factor is if the fader is set to pre or post... if it's pre when you automate you're going to change how much level you are pushing into the comp. I typically use it in post when I automate so that I don't over or under compress my vocals. Just a taste thing. Brauer actually like to ride the fader INTO the compressor. Experiment w both and see what you like 👍🏻😊

    What are you using to keep all that processing power that a lot of plugins you’re using

    • @MixBetterNowTV
      @MixBetterNowTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Larry Quinn Hey Larry. I run all my UAD dsp on a pair of Apollo Quads and an Octo Satellite drive and my reg Native plugins are on my iMac which has a 4ghz intel core i7 processor and 32 GB of ram. The internal hard drive is a flash drive and I use a plethora of external hard drives. Something I always recommend to folks is to print or commit tracks that have slower computer which maybe have a hard time handling plugins. In S1 there’s Render To Audio and in PT there’s Commit. Or you can bus the track to another audio track, print it, and then delete the plugins and the original track. That make sense? 🤙🏻😊

    • @spaceshipstudios5836
      @spaceshipstudios5836 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      it definitely my ram speed that make sense thanks

  • @bluematrix5001

    If you duplicate the tracks and Eq 1 of them differently u are creating phase issues

    • @MixBetterNowTV
      @MixBetterNowTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blue Matrix It can. But more often than not I auto align them after I’m done putting auto align last in the chain and then rendering the track. Sometime is the phase is audible it can be desirable depending on what one is going for. But I find the worst phase occurrence from duplication on bass tracks. Always auto align them. You can also nudge em. Whatever works 🤙🏻✌🏻

    • @bluematrix5001
      @bluematrix5001 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      U are creating more phase issues that way!! u should always insert auto align first..check their manual.... now it is ok if u use compressors with duplicated tracks...but EQ is no no ... especially ITB

    • @randybrown5899
      @randybrown5899 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bluematrix5001 that's in their manual showing how to get it working at its most basic function. In practical use, you'd auto-align last. You're right that EQ alters phase, so why would it make sense to time-align from BEFORE these phase shifts? EQ is your friend that will help the parallel track sit in the mix and you've put yourself in a position of fearing to use it because "you read the manual..." smh
