- In this video, we take you through the step-by-step process of upgrading a 1964 Barracuda from an old carburetor to a modern Summit Racing Max EFI fuel injection system. This DIY conversion not only improves performance by fine-tuning the air-fuel ratio but also ensures smoother startups, especially in cold weather. The project kicks off with replacing the fuel tank and pump to support EFI, followed by installing the EFI throttle body, fuel lines, and a new distributor. We also cover wiring, tuning with the handheld device, and testing the system for optimal performance. Whether you're tackling your own EFI swap or just a vintage car enthusiast, this video will guide you through the process with practical tips and real-time adjustments. We've had a few carburetor folks chime in, which is great! Just out of curiosity, who's in the carburetion camp and who prefers EFI? And why?? Thanks for checking out the video!
Personally i am both. I love my carbed hot rods and i am a huge fan of the efi as well
@SummitRacing I spent all last summer messing with my street avenger 670, and once I had it set, it was awesome, except it seemed like the engine vibration was causing the idle screws to move a bit. So every few days of constant driving, I would have to adjust them. So I bought an Aces Killshot kit "xmas sale"...lol and I'm hopin for some care free driving this summer. Plus, I already installed a remote starter in that pig!!!🤣
Do a c10 with an LS and an.msd controller!
Is that the 12v hot wire zip tied to the fuel line???????
It was. It was for testing the rear fuel pump. It is run inside the car now.
Yes, for testing purposes at that time. It has been moved. Appreciate you watching!
@SummitRacing I'm adding fuel injection to my 78 monte as soon as it warms up a bit, so the video was very helpful. My ocd wouldn't let me NOT comment on the wire...lmao.... these summit videos saved my butt a couple times on my build.
Never never never. Carbs 4 life.
Thanks for watching! We get...we love carbs, too. We did a whole series on carb tuning a while back. Check out the link: th-cam.com/play/PLatJ1euxSWhHRhHawkX2vM16ksQbYz0PB.html&si=o9Rl1DBFMW-JClgO Any other carb topics you'd like to see us tackle for future videos?
@SummitRacing I already teach people around here how to tune carbs, fine tune to. Snappier than an X looking for child support. From chokes to accel pumps to jets to p valves etc. Lol I'll pass tho thanks❤️🔥
Dude i thought the same thing but i actually really like this thing. Plus what we have planned it will be great.
Realistically, with no filming, how long is a swap like this?
I had it done in about two full days with filming. And i changed a lot of stuff and cleaned some stuff up.
I been building engine's for 43 years, I specialize in Pontiac engines, Chevy, Oldsmobile and Buick, not any of my customers want fuel injection. I still use carburetors, never efi
Most of my flatties and hemis are still carbs.
Ahh I like carbs and efi
Shouldn’t the fan on and off be on @180 off @118? Not sure if I seen or understood that correctly.
That’s correct. I believe that’s what i have it set at. It kicks on when the thermostat opens.
That is correct. On at 180; off at 118. Thanks for your question!
Only thing that holds this system back is it is not offered with a fuel line kit
@summit racing has a few kits for the fuel line and hoses online. I believe they can probably link to the kit.
To me tb fuel injection is so so, at a minimum fuel injection swaps need to be port injection, port injection isnt much more slash different to installing a throttle body injection.
I hear ya but for ease and upgrade it is an awesome set up.
@k-mackustoms365deuce5 could just as easy come with a manifold with the injectors and rails installed. Seems like these efi throttle body set ups have hesitation issues depending on the intake manifolds. I just watched a video this morning on a throttle body efi onto I think a 225 hemi and the bloke has just about given up trying to make it run nice, to be fair it was a different brand
@ i actually have this same set up on a 331 hemi and i love it. But port injection would be a cool set up as well. The worst part is making the manifold work especially on old mopars. They don’t make tons of stuff like that for them.
Give me a holley, NO FI. My Holley 650 spreadbore DP will start faster than EFI.
We understand...carbs are still the preferred choice for many! Thanks for watching!
I had a 650 on her but it was too much fuel. I chose the efi for her because i am driving it through the Ohio winter. She starts like a champ.
