Your content is excellent - informative, interesting, and diplomatically honest. I hold you personally responsible for my excessive and unjustifiable purchase of three Grant Stone boots over the past couple of months👍

Some of us stop at this level, because of budget. I have 1000 Mile Boots. I can't afford anything more expensive.

It’s funny the type of people you see complaining about break in period of the iron rangers and red wing products.
I say this because as someone who works 50-60 hours a week in a manufacturing job, I had very little issue with this. The boot was comfortable from probably the second wear .
I love the way the shoes feel and the veg tan leather insole feels great . I just love the way my feet feel in the IR and can’t wait to get my hands on a pair of their moc toes too

I think Bootspy put it best in a vid of his where it seems that some people are not used to the heritage style of construction(leather and hard rubber) and takes longer than some because of previous usage of foam insoles and foam soles in sneakers/cheap footwear.

    • @lucajames3850
      @lucajames3850 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Yeah I think people who complain about the break in don't actually wear them as work boots. They wear them as a hipster fashion statement, and as such they only get a few hours of light walking in per wear, not what they were designed for...
As such, they probably aren't comfortable for that application

I think Veg Tan insoles are great but the Iron Ranger isn't comfortable. There just isn't any shock absorption. I don't know if it's the last or how they're made but they are the hardest boots underfoot I've ever been in when broken in. I had a pair and I stopped wearing them because my knees would ache so bad. The Moc Toes are fantastic though and I could work 12 hours and my knees wouldn't hurt too bad.

thanks for all your work.., I've been watching alot of your content over the last month.., lots of great videos.. especially on White's MPs..!! I turn to you when I want to see more dressy boots.., spoken about elegantly.., and then I'll watch Rose Anvil's Weston for the more gritty stuff on the PNW boots.., Dale's Leatherworks is another great content creator.., whereas I find Stridewise and some others a bit too commercial.. I think your style,, more of a conversation than a 'sales pitch' .. lol, thanks again

Hopefully down the line you can do a video on higher end service boots. 🙏

Both are great options. I approached the break-in of my Iron Rangers cautiously due to the prevailing online legend of the rough break-in. There really was nothing to it though. The amber harness leather softens up within a wear or two, to the point where I only have a vague memory of the leather being "stiff", if it ever was. I was coming off a few years of wearing minimalist boots & shoes like Lems and Xero so I suppose my feet were already used to not walking around in cushy sneakers. If anything, the Parkhurst is a little more work to break in with the additional slab of leather in the midsole, but they're really not that bad either.

What a great series! Many thanks. As you talk about various boot companies such as Parkhurst and Red Wing, for example, might be helpful to mention which of the companies offer Wide options. (RW, yes on selected items, Parkhurst, no). But, again, thanks. Great stuff.

I still wish Red Wings did a version of the Iron Ranger but without the cap toe. ( no the Blacksmith is not the alternative as it has a different back stay and rolled top).

Hello, Teik ! I greatly appreciate your videos, they're very informative...and quite, dare I say...poetic ! during your musical introduction, the sixth pair of boots, on the seat of the chair,,, the beige-ish service boots , that look a lot like Iron Rangers, but have a 360 degrees welt, no speed hooks, and with a geometrical decoration on the stitching of the cap toe. Could you please tell me what they are ? they're absolutely gorgeous, I would try to find myself a pair. Thank you.

Hi Teik, love your videos have been watching for a while. Got me into many new brands. One piece of feedback, the audio in your videos seems to peak quite a bit. With your lav mic are you able to turn the input levels or gain down? Audio would sound crisper and with less of that fuzzy peaking. Noticeable of plosives

Thank you another interesting video. I had considered getting the Iron Rangers until I saw a picture of Ronald McDonald wearing a similar pair. That bulbous toe and color was just not for me. I went with a comfortable moc toe boot instead. Be well Bootlosophy.

Looking into something like an GS diesel natural waxy commander or if OSB drops their indigo roughout fieldboot in my tiny feet size for my next boot after a few pairs of smooth leathers.
For now I treated myself to a Solovair gaucho crazy horse stitchdown derby boot which has a really streetwear casual look compared to their more iconic doc marten styled derby boot or a more military service boot look which I do have a few of already.

  • @stewartlogan9894

Do you prefer the Parkhurst Allen over the GS Diesel? I was a bit surprised you compared the Parkhurst to the Red Wing (but as I’m typing this I realize you needed a cap toe, which the Diesel is not).

    • @The_Other_Matt

Wearing one of each for the heck of it, they feel pretty much equal. The Allen might be slightly more comfortable since my Diesels are a half size smaller than I wish they were (B-grades so I couldn't exchange them). Stitch quality is a little better on the GS and their welt joins have always been immaculate if you obsess over those things. Most, though not all, Allen models have unlined quarters, which I find to be more comfortable while all GS have lined quarters. The Allen feels and looks a little narrower in the heel and with the unlined quarters it has a bit more contoured, secure fit. Waiting for the next GS sale or a B-grade to pop up that's on my radar to form a better opinion.

Would going from TBC to one of the Indonesian brands be a more appropriate jump? I can understand Red Wing based on their global positioning but Parkhurst still has inventory concerns.

Hey Teik. I just received a pair of the new White’s CMP Shermans. If you like arch support, they are built on the 5050 last, which is 55 last in the back, MP last in the front. I find them more comfortable than the regular Sherman. I wonder if you have an order for a pair?
