So many people say Castlevania should take after Bloodborne but I think that's only because of the theme Bloodborne has is similar. For gameplay, Castlevania should look to Sekiro. Single weapon, so we can focus just on the whip and it's complexity. Sub weapons, literally have been in Castlevania from the start and Sekiro dies them perfectly in 3D. Mobility, I WILL SWING WITH MY WHIP AGAIN ONE DAY GOD DAMN IT. What it should do better than either Sekiro or Bloodborne: higher variety of mook enemies, both in design and fighting tactics, as well as making them more deadly. Platforming, Sekiro is close, but it's mobility is better for combat and getting around, not for jumping challenges, just imo.
That depends on the main character honestly, if it’s a Belmont then Sekiro’s singular weapon stuff works great. However if it’s literally anyone else would play around switching weapons constantly
Considering the upgrade mechanics, I wouldn't really consider _Bloodborne_ to have more than whatever weapon you start with. The rest of the weapons you find are spread out a fair amount, and the materials to upgrade them tends to make them not worth changing until you get towards the end of the game or on to NG+. Granted _Sekiro_ doesn't even offer an illusion of weapon choice, but let's not fool ourselves into thinking that _Castlevania_ only ever sticks to a single weapon, there certainly are some titles which limit things to the whip, but later titles introduced a variety of weapons types, along with upgrades/replacements for most of them and some with fairly unique passive effects. Not at all dissimilar to _Dark Souls_ whereas _Bloodborne_ only had a single weapon of any type which had to be physically upgraded. Overall, _Lords of Shadow_ was a perfectly fine _Castlevania_ themed _God of War_ title that could have been much better if designed to lean into more of an open world, as widely known with the "Metroidvania" genre. There were a few minor points of the game that played into this, but the level select process made if feel far less organic to use a newly found ability in a previous area in order to reach a previously unreachable item.
@@ArtumTsumia it's very easy to start using a new weapon in bloodborne, especially since blood gems matter more than upgrades and those can be swapped at will. I know this is an older video and it may have been said already but in lords of shadow mirror of fate it states that the knights of the brotherhood carry magic scrolls that records their last thoughts just in case another brotherhood knight finds it. That way they can help even after death.
It'd be an interesting risk vs reward situation if your attacks landed way faster when you're right up in the enemy's face (but you can get hit easily) and your attacks have a longer start up animation from the whip's maximum length so you have to plan around that delay more (but you're less likely to get hit).
The DLCs are story based and are a prologue to Lords of Shadow 2, I would explain but dont want to spoil it. Watch them on TH-cam if you can. It helps with the story of Lords of Shadow 2.
I would've liked to hear his opinion on the Resurrection boss fight, but I also can see it being frustrating to get through. I had fun with it after I finally died a ton of times and learned the pattern and turned the tide, but it took a couple of hours to get there (on Paladin).
I can see why they would consider the DLC a mistake but it also somewhat explains or fills a slight part of the massive gap between the end of the satan boss fight and the very ending cutscene which is the beginning of the 2nd game
I agree with the going the blood-borne route as far as 3D Castlevania go provided there's a difficulty setting. Heads up on the last of the Lords of Shadow trilogy. Lords of Shadow 2 has a whole lot of rough spots but you need to make it through and play the DLC. I stand by this the DLC needs to be made into its own game. I enjoyed your review.

Watching this awakened my memory of the Dante's Inferno game. which I forgot existed but always looked really cool.
I didn't play other Castlevania games, but I played this at its release 6-ish years ago and loved it. It was one of my first experience with hack n slash and made me fond of the genre.
Last week I bought it from a sale on steam to check how well it aged and I must say it exceeded my expectations. It's still a beautiful game and still fun, even with those cons you pointed that I completely agree with.
I'm gonna tell you right now dude, after doing the same demo, you'd do yourself a discourtesy by not playing through all of SoTN, and then diving deep into the rabbit hole. That was my entire year.
2 F2NKe videos in a year? What's happening FUNKe?
Jokes aside, I heard that you had some issues about coming back and I want to tell you that I'm so stoked about seeing new content from you again, no matter the topic
And now we wait for the sequel
Yo Funke I funkin' love FUNKe Study it's so funkey. I am Huge Funketeer and welp I just want to you to know I love your music and your videos your editing is funkey as all funk am just glad your back man keep up the Funkey work.
The 3DS game slaps pretty hard. It’s VERY different, though.
The graphics in this game were pretty awesome for their time
The second one fits more in line with dracula in general and I never looked at it critically but it was fun and made sense
i give it a pinkerton and green out of a blue
9.5/10, great review, a little unfocused and ranty at times but i just love the video so i cant complain!keep it up men
I know this is an older video and it may have been said already but in lords of shadow mirror of fate it states that the knights of the brotherhood carry magic scrolls that records their last thoughts just in case another brotherhood knight finds it. That way they can help even after death.
More Funke content?
Thanks COVID, never let him outside again.
Lord of the shadows 2 did a much better job of conveying Gabriels emotion and body language.
Man gotta love those Funke videos
I can see why they would consider the DLC a mistake but it also somewhat explains or fills a slight part of the massive gap between the end of the satan boss fight and the very ending cutscene which is the beginning of the 2nd game
I was having good memories of this game until you reminded me of the chupacabra sections
I love funke study! Half for the song lol and the other half for the funke
"And it doesn't require 5 hours of Destiny 2 to get dopamine" alright, can you not call me out so hard?
Its funny Im actually playing through the LoS series again right now and all your points are entirely true. The game has its flaws but its a good game imo.
12:58 : super hero landing
"...and Claudia's dead!"
Dante yelling at me in Sonic's voice is some cursed shit dude.
Castlevania Lords of Shadow was the original strand type game
Small and Frail Young adult dominant whips demon with ancient whip
These videos are quality. They are well put together and thought out completely. Why are they on Funke’s main page? Why on Ftwonke
"And so, Gabriel, stoic knight of the land set out with only one goal in mind: to bring to life the only thing that ever brought him true happiness. Anime girls."
Creators were speaking about the sequels in the end and the whole seriie.
You should play the DLC! The real final boss is guaranteed to kick ass ten times over
I bought this game days before my country decided to close all shops because of corona, I was lucky. As the game is pretty long I'm having a great time home alone
Oh my god FUNKe posted two videos in the same month
finally a new video. i'm really tired of waiting.
I'm surprised to see the guys who made this later on make a really cool Free to play PvEvP shooter.
Hahahaha, I cant stop laughing at “Hideas Kodak Camera The Prophet”
Dang the sav 2 reference was a throwback
