DeeJay has a very distinctive voice, and has appeared with VoicePlay a number of times: Butter, Bang, Man in the MIrror, My Best Friend, In My Room. And the Christmas Chipmunks Song. He appeared in the musical Hamilton. This is such a cool , jazzy, sexy, cover of this song.
I love that it seems more intimate because they slowed it down. I like the stripped down jazzy, bluesy, sultry sound of it. Even though DeeJay‘s voice could easily be mistaken for Michael Jackson’s, they did not slavishly copy the song. They rearranged it to feature his voice but make it their own. Those delicious harmonies! ❤ I love Geoff’s bassline, Eli’s gorgeous clear tones and the fact that we got to hear Layne sing with Cesar (One of my favorite parts. ) DeeJay gets a couple of chances to riff for a while. It reminds me of the Motown sounds that I grew up with. This is definitely one of my favorites. He has done several covers with them. I’ve seen some suggestions but I haven’t seen In My Room (Beach Boys) yet and that’s one of my favorites from *my* childhood. DeeJay fits in well with them, but he’s often busy on other projects. He was in a touring company of Hamilton for quite some time. A multifaceted performer.!

He competed on the 2023 season of 'The Voice' but as with Omar Cardona on the 2022 season did not win as they tend to favor Country music artists on that show.

As for the mics, they're just using the mics that studio had available to use. But often the bass and beatboxer have different mics than the main singers, because they use their mics differently and have a very different sound production than that of the main singers. It's very common to have different mics to give the best result for each voice.
