As always very clear and useful. I'd love to see yo do some "here's what to do" vids though based on real rolls - i.e. set up a position, roll and let us see how you's think through it and decide. That would be invaluable.
I like the word robust. Actually nassim taleb uses robust, fragile and anti fragile. If you translate it to backgammon, a starting backgame would probably be anti-fragile, you actually want to get hit, cause it makes your backgame stronger. Shows again how complete this boardgame is.
Marc here: Well, "anti-fragility" according to Taleb's definition, is a system that gets stronger during stress. I guess you could use the analogy here. :) In backgammon "Robustness" is the term used, when you have a well-structured position with good flexibility and mobility.
Keep it coming! These rule of thumb/philosophy of backgammon videos are exactly the kinds of things I wanna be seeing!!
More to come!

Do you sometimes roll without dice shaker? 🎲
I prefer cups but it's also really nice to use a dice tower - especially for speed matches as this shaves off valuable seconds on each roll.

Congratulations on the Backgammon Galaxy upgrade. I can’t logon now so I’ve stopped playing there. Massive screwup.
If you front loaded to much, just move them backwards on the next roll. It is legal when you can distract your opponent enough.
don't ever try to cheat!
