great work , its only when you work on one of these you appreciate they are a monster , i do a lot of work on my bikes , ive my pan stripped at the mo for mechanical refurb , as im laid up with an injury and cant ride (im a dispatcher) they really are built like a tank , mines going matt black , im doing all the chassis bearings t belt , valve clearances (for reference to anyone ) 60k miles i doubt ever been done , all exhausts tight all inlets fine , ex 0.22-28 , mine were all 0.15- 0.2 , im gonna install phone charger , power outlet , cheapo front / rear camera , swingarm out for a look solid but lot of surface rust , same all around rear lower frame , cutting down the motad cans , oil seal gone in final drive at input , st bearings all new wheel bearings , can highly recommend bridgestone t30's , (fitted to all my bikes) just got the new t31 for this build , yss shock , although i must say im on my second warrenty replacement , if it goes again itll be in the bin , ive been assured by vendor this is rare , and the block connector going into the solenoid was melted , i removed the tank and there was serious rust too , but only surface so hammerite and wire brush , like yu i intend keeping it , ive done this kind of refurb , many times but on the pan , its twice the work , good luck , and im sure ill be checking in as ive a coupla questions , great work your doing , but im only doing a refurb of the mech side , mines just gonna look like a junker , you bike looks mint , well done
As i recall the voltmeter was from Honda Marine and fitted mainly to the Police varients the power on the bike was somewhat lacking i seem to remember. I changed the alternator on mine when i had it - was a complete B*%tch with that wierd spring flywheel, i actually broke the new alternator and had to get another. Good bike! got me around Europe without much issue, found out the mate i sold it too still has it and uses it when the weathers good. Nice rebuild Jim!
Re voltmeter. Try and source an ex police ST, they have the voltmeter as standard that is shaped to fit in perfectly. Keep headlamp adjuster connected (just fix it inside fairing anywhere its accessible). Nice job so far. I stripped mine a couple of years ago, painted the engine and frame. Now done over 460k miles, (including a run to Ukraine last March).
Thanks, it's a big heavy old thing but fairly simple to work on with no major problems so far, don't think i'd like to do the same with the ABS/TCS model though!
@dfraserml11 Thanks, when i first bought the bike my intention was to tidy the bike up a little, but the more i got into it the more i realised it needed. It has been a lot of work but as i plan to keep it for a good while i decided to do a full strip and rebuild.
@mrpumba2147 Thanks for the comments. I get parts from various places, ebay, my local Honda dealer and Dave Silver spares in the UK. I'm pretty sure they ship world wide. The bike is nearly finished now, just a few small jobs to complete then i'll get it M.O.T.'d and start using it.
@mrpumba2147 Yep, very soon, just got the bike insured and MOT'd and have ridden about 200 miles so far. I'll do another couple of hundred miles then pull the fairing off and check all the bolts and re-torque etc, after that i'll do a final vid to show the finished bike. Great video and great work on the restoration!! I was thinking about doing the same with my ST1100 as I have 92K miles on it. I am looking forward to the remaining videos showing the completed restoration....great job. Where are you ordering your parts from and do you know if they ship to the US?
i need the two oil seals between the driveshaft and final drive , any pointers ? my local dealer is a waste of time ... i gave up on them years ago , all other parts are easily located , but these seals im running into a wall , the one inside the flange i assume a seal place , but the one that sits em... inside on the removable drive part between the shaft and the hub is a funny shape . any ideas , thanks dave
Hi, 1989 is a very early model but they all rotate the same way. If you look at the engine from the back the output shaft rotates clockwise. I take it your building a trike? regards, Jim.

Did it over the winter, few hours each night and at weekends. No talent, just patience, lots of time and a fair bit of money.
Hi, it was 'Carplan' silver engine paint and i just used a brush to apply it. Still looks good with no flaking paint yet.

I have exactly the same windshield and you had a little extra wind deflector in it. Is functional for long drivers to prevent wind?
Yes, the screen was pretty good with the little wind deflector even for me at 6' 4" or 193cm.
