Also, when you water, really take your time and let the water soak in. That will encourage the roots to grow deep. A quick spritz isn’t as much as you might think. And surface watering encourages shallow roots, which just dry out faster in droughts. Hope this isn’t too many comments. 😅

    • @christine1373
      @christine1373 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Absolutely! You also won’t need to water them as much once the roots are established.

Loving the garden vlog. You need to mulch your beds because that will help retain moisture and stop the soil washing away from the top of the roots when you water. Bagged woodchips can be pricey if you need loads of them but often tree surgeons will have a pile of them you can have for free if you have a shovel, a garden bag (ikea bags are perfect!) and some energy!

The rearrangement of the patio area looks much better and is a much better use of the space. Maybe add some liquid plant food to your watering can to nourish and feed the plants, water is good too, but lacks the essential nutrients that plants need to thrive. Also maybe grow some tomato's which are very easy to look after especially tumbling varieties that can be grown in hanging baskets. Everything is looking really good and now the weather is also good. Have a lovely week and chill a bit. 🌹🥀🌺🌻🌼🌷🪴🌱

Hi Luke, the garden is looking really good. Just a tip - the soil looks like it needs building up a bit - try adding several bags of compost for nutrition, plus some pea straw to give it a bit of body, watering everything well and then mulching to retain the moisture. Once your soil is in really good condition, your plants will thrive with regular feeding and watering - according to their individual needs.

When your not sure wether your over watering a pot a good tool is a soil moisture meter which are quite reasonably priced on Amazon. You just stick the metal rod into the soil and it will tell you if the pot is too wet, dry or just right.

Yes, cut off the spent flower stems on the salvias, deadheading encourages plants to flower again. If you notice, there will be seed heads forming after flowering, this is how most plants reproduce, by cutting off the flowers (deadheading) it will encourage the plant to produce more flowers to start the process again. Deadhead the lupins as well.

    Hi Luke and Zara... Maggie
Lovely to see Ewan. The clematis is gorgeous 🎉. Your garden is beautiful. We are all suffering with withered plants,so dont despair. That is gardening. I love the plan for double doors leading out from the kitchen eventually. I also think that the existing back door should echo the new planned doors. You'll lose light if you brick it up. Hey, two back exits won't be a bad thing. See if it works, then brick it up. Zara is a gem, giving spare time to a dog shelter❤🩷🍩🍻

Hi ya Luke, here are some more garden tips. When watering, try to water in the morning or later in the evening. Only water at the base of the plants( with a very low flow or dripping hose). Don’t overwater the lavender or the eucalyptus. As these plants just need a soak a couple of times a week. If you soak the plants that you have planted in the beds a couple of times a week (deep slow watering) & mulch(use ex mushroom compost, wood chips or pea straw -available at most garden centres or nuseries) unless it is really hot this should see you through the summer. Pot plants generally need daily watering at the height of summer. But the Olive trees probably need only a twice a week drink.

If you don't want slugs getting to your Hostas... put a copper wire or copper tape around the outside of the plant pot. Slugs hate it as it gives them a shock. Also... they love Clematis so watch that if they are a problem in your area (Cornwall is having an invasion of the things).

Watering is so important plants in a pot must be watered daily and plenty of it . New plants in the ground also need plenty of water initially and as they get established not quite as much. A quick spray is not enough , and try and avoid wetting the leaves when it’s hot so they don’t burn . The garden is looking really good x

You need to water more, think you need to just leave everything now as there’s a view plants that will grow out and get a lot taller. But the garden is looking good. 😊

I winced a bit at the clematis in a carrier bag with it's roots exposed in the sun. Personally l would have given it a good soak in a bucket of water before planting. Clematis is one of a few plants that can be planted deeper than it grows in the pot as they can suffer from clematis wilt. They like their roots in the shade and their heads in the sun. ☺️

I ordered a new sofa set from Fabb Furniture in January with a 14 week delivery, it still hasn’t arrived and their customer service is shite. Like you say, a lot of companies are prioritising new orders over existing ones.

Many people have probably said this before me but your borders need some nutrients. Some good mulch would help. Or after watering water with some good plant food. Water be for feeding stops the feed burning the roots.
    Garden is looking fabulous 😊

Yes, watering basil from underneath is really good, but right now your new basil plant may not have enough established roots to get its water from below . Keep an eye on it and give it some top water for a while as needed.

If your book isn't enjoyable or uplifting/ relaxing to read especially at bed time maybe best to ditch it and move to another that you do like.

So glad that you are enjoying your garden…but please don’t bother to water your lawn…it will recover colour in due course…meanwhile you are wasting water environmentally…and if you have a water meter you are spending money unnecessarily. Some of your lavender looks like the type that is susceptible to frost. It may/may not survive the winter…even in London. Suggestion…check the pH of your soil…and choose plants that like dry conditions…saves you time and money😀😀😀Have fun…

    Hi Luke
Just a couple of little pointers about plants there are different types of Fucias yours look like garden ones to me not hanging basket so I would check before moving they look too woody for baskets also pots indoor or outdoor plants are drawn to the light so if you rotate the pots you plant will grow straight not lean and watering from bottom you don't leave water in the tray it's best to water daily and the plant will have fresh water and standing in water ros the roots but you are doing great garden is lovely

I think that plant is an Antirrhinum commonly known as “Bunny Rabbits” as they look like Bunny Heads. A feed tip for cheap feed for plants also is crush egg shells after washing and letting them dry, if you can blitz them into a powder by using a coffee grinder , then just add some powdered yeast, stir together, add water, you will have to add about four pints to two tablespoons of the mixture. Great for houseplants also. You can also add baking soda instead of the yeast.

All new plants need lots of watering that's like a watering can full for each plant every couple of days the roots are searching for water and your soil looks dry and windy days dry out not only the soil but the leaves too. Water, water, water and a fortnightly feed. Some great plants you have. The garden looks lovely.

Thank you for another fabulous vlog. Really love how there's a bit of everything in it so never boring. The only thing is they are over too quickly. Well done Zara for volunteering. Most satisfying I'm sure with the dogs. Have a good week both 🐞
