- I love two things: the Lord of the Rings and random trivia. Here those two come together to test your knowledge of Middle-earth and the world created by JRR Tolkien.

I said Elrond for Vilya and I think I'm right! I did forget about Elladan and Elrohir at that Battle of the Black Gate, though.
That’s a correct answer as well. I should have been more specific or allowed for both possessors of Vilya!
same😆
Those are the same 2 I missed, and for the same reason.
I missed Elrond's sons, and the Silverlode. first read IOTR in 1967 when I was 15 yr.s old still read it every couple years.
the ring bearer question wasnt quite fair. gilgalad gave the rings away. the questen should have been similar to the cirdan-gandalf question^^
Yeah, you’re right. That was a mistake others have pointed out as well. Thanks for keeping me honest!
Not a bad quiz, got all but two right. My mind drew a blank on Luthien’s mother, and I said Nimrodel instead of Celebrant. I should note however, that Moria was the name applied to Khazad-dûm only after it’s fall, in Sindarin it’s also otherwise known as Hadhodrond.
I like that you include The Silmarillion in the questions. This was really great. Got all right.
Point of order, Elves returning to the undying lands from Middle Earth do not go to Valinor, they go to Tol Eressea.
Seeing that everyone is point out that Elrond is the wielder of Vilya, following the death of Gilgallad, I’ll be extra pedantic and state. “Um actually Arwen isn’t half elven, her mother is a full elf, and Elrond is technically 9/16th elven. Making Arwen 25/32nds elf.”
Loved it! Confused the Lady of the light with the Lady of the stars. I gave myself Elrond as the bearer of Vilya though. For the bonus question, i was frozen because of the lack of time and said 0 🤣 Forgot even Legolas
Great trivia! I'm enjoying the channel very much. Waiting for more.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Lots more to come.
This was a great quiz! That was fun. Well done!
24(+1 bonus). Pretty mad at myself for the river.
This was great, hope you keep going and see that sub count climb.
One could argue that Elrond wielded Vilya. Gil_galad gave it to Elrond to succeed him and to assist Elrond in his work to end Sauron. Gil-Galad foresaw that he would not survive the first first battle at Mordor and Elrond would need the power in the future. Regardless, in LOTR, it was ELROND, not Gil-Galad that used Vilya. Freat quiz though!!!
Good Video Thanks.
21/26. Honestly, better than I thought I would strictly from memory. Feel pretty good regardless because most of the wrong answers I got were along the lines of 'Oh, right.'
23/25 I'm furious. It's time to remember The Silmarillion and the stories from the 1st era
I forgot about the Vilya and the rivers name which flowed through Lothlorien
I'm calling it 26 out of 26. I said the Sea for Galadriel's warning to Legolas. Though she goes on to say that if he hears the cry of a seagull he'll have no rest in Middle Earth, she starts her warning by saying "Beware of the Sea."
As for who held Vilya...Elrond held Vilya at the time of The War of The Ring and for the whole of the 3rd age and the end of the 2nd age. The question would be more clear if you asked who FIRST held Vilya.
Good job.
Got all except I answered Nimrodel instead of Celebrant for the river
I missed five, but Elrond had the ring of Gil-Galad after the Last Alliance.
Question 16: Elrond & Gil-Galad both are correct answers since you did not mention when but only who wields it.
Question 24: I keep getting confused between Celeborn, Celebrant & Celebrian, lol
Bonus Question: Stupidly got it wrong because movie visualization of war is much remembered compared to books
This was great fun 😄 though I missed a bunch of them because memory failed me.
Tolkien’s lore goes deep!
I only got one wrong. The river. I thought it was Nimrodel because I thought that the Celebrant was a border river like the Anduin.
21 out of 26...Legolas cost me two questions, and I couldn't recall Elladan's name. Not satisfied with my result, but your quiz was very good, loved it, hope to see more!
Surprised myself that I got them all right! I said Elrond for the Vilya question.
One error, and one variant answer. When they asked for the mother of Luthien, I somehow thought they were asking for the mother of Arwen, and said Celebrian. Gave Elrond as the bearer of Vilya, which I would say must be acceptable unless the question is further qualified. He did become the bearer of that ring, after all.
I’m pretty sure the sons of Elrond were also considered half elven so only 1 elf at the Black Gate.
Nice quiz. I got 24 of 26 correct. I screwed up on the sound of gulls answer and still have a ways to go on all the rivers so I missed on Celebrant. I am claiming a right answer for saying Elrond wielded Vilya. I'll have to check out more of your quizzes.
I enjoyed this. I found it quite challenging, and exciting when I got one right. And you gained a new subscriber as soon as you said "gently tap the like button" lol
Always gentle my friend
for 10 -when elves die they go to the halls of mandos. for the ring of air, you didn't say when and elrond wore it for far longer than gilgalad, elrond's sons were not elves, they were half elven and they too choose a mortal life.
20 points, though I think that I missed one or two only on time.
About a thousand times better than anyone associated with Amazons Rings of Power.
You should do something on moria
Loved it - but I need to re read The Silmarillion it seems! 16/26
I’m glad you liked it!
I got only 21 plus the bonus.
Full disclosure- I only got 20 right. But the answer to the bonus question is incorrect. If Arwen is the half-elven daughter of Elrond, then Elladan and Elrohir are also half-elven; therefore, the exact number of elves who fought at the Black Gate is 1, Legolas, not 3.
I missed two. Not bad for an old man(70).
Not bad at all! And 70 would still be very young to these characters
if you exclude my inability to pronounce the names(i had read the books a few times before internet) and i am especialy bad with names, i got lots correct, just read lost tails, sort of cheat, but got the bonus
After watching the films and listening to youtube videos i managed to get 12 correct.
26 out of 27 (including the bonus), if Elrond is also correct as wielder of Vilya. However there's a slight discrepancy, if you refer to Arwen as Half-elven (which is arguable since Elrond's choice was to be counted as an Elda), then there was only one full elf at the battle of the Black Gate, i.e. Legolas. Elladan and Elrohir would also technically be half (quarter?) elven. I also missed Celebrant the river, was searching for Bruinen but that's the ford not the river. Fun stuff!
The Bruinnen (or Loudwater) is a river, but it’s the river that runs through Imladris, not Lothlorian. And while the epithet of “Half Elven” belongs to all of Elrond’s children, it’s not really a literal description. Elrond chose the life of an elf, and had children Celebrian, a full blooded elf (if of mixed Sindar/Noldor lineage). But is a reminder of their mixed lineage that also includes Melian the Maiar. For all intents and purposes, Elladan and Elrohir are elves, as much as Arwen is.
@@yael9137 Question 5 asks who is the 'half-elven' daughter of Elrond, with the 'h' and 'e' in lower case. It's thus a bit unclear, it seems like you are defining her biologically as half-elven, not calling her 'Half-Elven' as a title. The whole issue is open to interpretation, in marrying Aragorn, did Arwen actually become human, as in aging and dying naturally, or does her physical body remain un-aging, like an Elda, except when she dies her spirit goes beyond the circles of the world. Same question for Luthien, and fanfiction stories take different positions on this. As for Elladan and Elrohir, we don't know what their final choices were, but I'll accept that at the time of the Battle of the Black Gates at the end of the Third Age, they are probably still biologically eldar so could count with Legolas. As for the rivers, I was confused as to which one was being referred to, so a true mistake. Still, 26/27!
@@oudviola if anything I’m saying it has nothing to do with biology. I’m not really someone tries to explain Tolkien stuff with science. I’m trying to explain why the twins and Arwen should really just be counted as elves by saying the epithet is symbolic rather than factual. To be fair the problem is, as you say, more in the wording of the original question. Describing her specifically as half elven sets a confusing precedent for the latter question about her brothers.
@37 Agreed. I am a research biology professor, so it's kind of my thing to think from that perspective. If you haven't done so, take a look at the recent Nature of Middle Earth book, there are several chapters of detailed calculations of the estimated population size of the various groups of Eldar, depending on different assumptions about fertility rates, maturation ages, mortality due to accident or war, even calendar years before there was a sun or moon. Tolkien was an academic, and could be quite nit-picky about technical details.
About 75% not too bad could’ve done better
Lovely little video please make more 👏🏼
I know they don't have pointed ears.
22/25. I can't believe that I couldn't recall Elrond's twin sons' names!!! I'm old!
I loved this! I got 20/25
Not bad at all. How was the difficulty level? I’m still trying to find a sweet spot.
last homely house was coming from the Hobbiton direction - to the wiid lands... from the other direction indicated in your video.. it is described BY TOLKIEN as the FIRST homely house... Bad Start Dude.
I did pretty good
I got 19 out of 25. Just a hint, the question number 16 can be confusing. Because Gil-Galad gave Vilya to Elrond before dying against Sauron. The video had been amazing and trivia very funny
Thank you for keeping me honest! I needed to be more specific on that one.
@@MiddleHearth still a good trivia indeed
yeah gil galad wore vilya, but elrond after that so i only got the river in lorien wrong. not very hard this one ;)
Count it! I’ll have to ratchet it up in the future. I’m still looking for the right balance.
I want points for elrond too!
@@cathrynbyrnes8737 Points granted! ✨
@@MiddleHearth thank you!
26 of 26

There’s no textual evidence that Gil-Galad “wielded” Vilya before entrusting it to Elrond. The question is extremely misleading, especially by using the present tense “wields”. Who wields Aeglos? Would have been a better question if you wanted Gil-Galad as the answer.
You’re right. That was a clumsy question on my part (as many have pointed out 😅). I appreciate the feedback!
Eu errei os números 12 e 24. Eu vi que você disse que deveria ter sido mais específico na 16, porque eu disse Elrond 😊
25/26 I thought of Nimrodel instead of Celebrant because of that whole story, but it flows into the Celebrant right at the border of Lorien, so I gotta take the L on that one.
A near perfect score! Yeah, my mind could have easily gone to Nimrodel as well. That was a tough one.
How was the overall difficulty level?
@@MiddleHearth It wasn't too difficult for me, but I believe I'm more knowledgeable than the average Tolkien enjoyer. And I still got one wrong.
Ok. Does it make sense to start easier and gradually get more difficult or would you rather have straight difficult questions?
@@MiddleHearth personally I like quizzes with a difficulty curve.
Ditto.
23/25 didn't know the river that flowed through lothlorien and wasn't sure about the owner of vilya. did pretty good otherwise
No kidding. Nice job!
And if you answered Elrond on the Vilya question that would also be correct. Gil-galad later gave his ring to Elrond.
@@MiddleHearth cool, was torn between the two 😅
pretty good? you only got 23
@@MageAtYou "did pretty good otherwise" i got 23 out of 23 except those two. that's pretty good in my book
Imladris, escape of Gollum, Galadriel, mellon, Arwen Undomiel, Celebrimboralone, Thranduil king of the woodland realm, Celeborn, Valinor, Ellaadan and Elrohir, Gondolin, Cry of the seagull, Ballrog, Cirdan the shipwhright, Moria, Gilgalad, Feanor, Melian the Maiar, Elven lembas wheybread, halls of Mandos, Eru Illuvatar, Earendil, Gandalf, Silverload, cuiviennen, Threelegolas and Elronds sons. Your ring question depends on when.
Just found you - Great content!!!
Bonus question: Who is Gilgalad's father? XD
That is a tough one!
I had to look it up
should be Fingon the son of Fingolfin (without looking into Silmarilion)
@@Zed-fq3lj nope its orodreth he is the father of gil-galad the bloodline goes like this finwe>finarfin>angrod>orodreth>gil-galad😃
''the son of Orodreth and grandson of Angrod and Eldalótë, OR the son of Fingon and thus grandson of Fingolfin, since there were different accounts about his actual parentage - mind the lineage from all aspects please! ☺@@iam2sick4you58
