From what i understand this is either an alternate universe story, the pilots dug it out of a glacier where the old Kabuto lab ruins where hidden, or Mazinkaiser wound up in the military after the Mazinkaiser ended.

The thing is, Mazinkaiser (the original) actually take hits. They just don't register in the armor. And then, in the movie, it is upgraded to correct the suposed only weakness it had (and no, it's never said what was said weakness) making it almost invulnerable and invincible. Not even the General of Darkness can put an scratch on the Mazinkaiser. Go Nagai said that it's theoretical limit would be among the same level as Shin Getter Robo, and SGR can destroy moons. I can't see MZ SKL doing that.

@Illsteir If by moe you mean the industry has been overrun with ecchi and slice-of-life (the past few years) then you're right. Though I must confess, I enjoy some ecchi (fanservice-centered) series (like Koihime Musou). 2011 has been a really good year for anime so far. So many things to watch, it's a bit overwhelming.
To be Honest, I think the Wings of Mazinkaiser SKL isn't called Wing Cross... because the OVA Mazinkaiser he says Scrander Cross to dock with the Kaiser Scrander, which is what it's called for the OVA Mazinkaiser, In the Mazinkaiser SKL final ep, I think Magami is just telling Kaido to dock with the wings by telling him Wing cross, which Kaido repiles yeah... so personally, I don't think his wings are called Wing Cross but it was a command to dock with the wings, as for what the wings are called, it didont really say...
You compare them by seeing how much damage they took, that's not a good way to compare mechas. I mean, even Boss Borot could get out of a fight unscratched if he fought cardboard targets...
I love SKL, but it's actual power lacks in comparison to the original kaiser. SKL took a lot of serious damage while Mazinkaiser from the first OVA never got scratched. Considering Shin Getter is Mazinkaiser's Parallel I don't think SKL would be able to match it unless it was upgraded or powered up somehow. Gurren Lagann couldn't beat any of them though :)
Its sheer over-the-toppness and the final battle in the series (though the second movie's version of that fight makes it look pathetic imo), among other things. I suggest you watch it at least to episode 7 (that's where the silliness dies down a lot in the first half) before you decide whether or not you like it. Also: Galaxy Frisbees. I made this vague as to avoid spoilers in case you do decide to watch it.

+Masked Rider Haseo Terror of Death Apparently, the SKL Kaiser is stated to be so powerful it had to be reworked into a two-pilot setup for an even power split between the two pilots, so it's basically stronger than the regular Mazinkaiser, and a lot faster too, because it can perform gun kata by way of the heat sinks on its chest becoming pistols. And it has a buster sword that can become Mjolnir. Once it gets the Wing Cross, or the Hell Scrander as it probably should be called, it gains access to beefed up versions of special attacks the original Kaiser had, specifically the Rust Tornado Stream and the Inferno Blaster, which actually one-shotted the Iron Kaiser at the end of the series, provided it pinned the Iron Kaiser to the Gravity Curtain's core with the Mjolnir buster sword it had. Just remember this is my personal opinion on how strong the SKL Kaiser is, seeing as we've got now way of measuring the power of the mechs from the series apart from photon energy concentration and what-have-you.

Kaiser was made of Super Allow New Z which makes him invincible, but SKL got torn apart so he's made of weaker stuff. Considering that it's pretty much canon that Mazinkaiser and Shin Getter are in the same league, it means SKL doesn't really hold a candle to either. I suppose maybe SKL was more offensively focused and his role is meant to be a combination of power and toughness, but I don't think he beats Shin or Kaiser in either role.
