  • After completely tearing down this Agco 4227 tedder once to replace the main shaft and several bearings, I had to tear it down again to repair some damaged bolt threads in the gear box case. This tedder is made by Enorossi and was also marketed as a New Idea 4227 before they were bought by Agco. This is Part 1 of a series.

I’m not sure what shaft you’re talking about. Can you describe it better?

I never made a part 2. What exactly are you trying to do to the u joints?

Remove the double cardan joint from the tedder or remove the universal joints and bearing caps from the yoke?
If removing the double cardan joint from the tedder, you need to knock the roll pin out first. Have you done this?
You may need to take the arm off.
The cardan joint may still be rusted or seized onto the shaft. In this case you just have to get creative. Try prying it, use heat or a penetrating oil.

How so you remove the u joints?

The double cardan joints are held on the shaft by a roll pin, and there might be a key way too. There is a hole in the casting of the arm that you line the roll pin up to pound them out. Then remove the u joints from the joint like any other u joint.
