- Waylon Jennings' son, Shooter Jennings, slammed Jason Aldean's "Try That in a Small Town" in a new interview. Shooter Jennings did not hold back when asked his thoughts on Jason Aldean's song and if "Try That in a small Town" was worthy of being considered for a Grammy Award. We have yet to hear these kinds of words from an artist on "Try That in a Small Town." Wow!

Shooter has long been frustrated with Nashville. "Outlaw you" was produced like 10+ years ago I think
He’s actually been big in the producing world with producing Grammy winning albums from Tanya Tuckers comeback albums Marilyn Mansons last album turnpike troubadours and many more. So he actually does know what he’s talking about and I get it everyone has an opinion. But don’t make it sound like he hasn’t been doing anything and isn’t relevant because he actually is if you do research and follow the country genre as a whole.

I think it’s a song that speaks volumes but it’s not racial or or preaching anger. It’s saying that small towns are proud of their community and they stick together and fight for their community.. Small towns don’t fight against each other they come together in a crisis they love their neighbors and take care of each other.

Being from a small town in Ga I love this song! Im not even much of a country music fan (old country music yes) but this song tells it like it is in a small town! Other artist shouldnt ever say anybodys song is crappy shame on you Shooter! In the South we say if you cant say something nice then dont say anything at all! I support Jason! Remember Jason and his fans were victims in a mass shooting in Vegas who changed many lives so why do people have to hate on Jason and the song. It’s a song of truth !

To me this song deserves it, because it speaks volumes especially in a world full of hate these days. You can't watch the news without hear hatred towards this race or that race and culture, Aldean speak about trying it in place that everyone knows everyone around them and willing to lend a helping hand like one version of video showed some farmers helping another farmer; in this day and age we need people like that, plus there a crappier songs in other genres but Try that in a small town isn't one of them.

Ok the song isn't the worst thing in the world but Waylon Jennings was publicly no fan of Garth Brooks. And if he didn't like Garth, he would have hated most of Aldean's music. The likelihood that he would have been on stage with Aldean is slim to none lol. Not to mention it's not even Aldean's best song about that part of the country. Fly Over States, Amarillo Sky, and Tattoos on this Town all blow Try that in a Small Town out of the water.

I couldn’t care less who wrote it most singers don’t write their own songs. All I know is that we people who actually DO live in small towns find this song very relatable. I also have no idea where Jason Alden is from and it really doesn’t matter to me personally. He could be from New York for all I know and care. There are good people from all over and in all colors, all walks of life, all income brackets, all age groups, all sexes/orientations, etc. Jason has just struck a nerve with this song. Some take offense and some don’t. At any tater he had the balls to record it without much thought or worry of what the reprocussions may be. That is the TRUE SPIRIT of the American Outlaw Country Music movement that was started by Willie, Waylon, Cash, Kristoffererson and others. I think it would also be safe to list Toby Keith with those heroes. Midst B modern manufactured “Country Music” recorded today is a watered down pop meets rock meets a little bit of country. Growing up my favorite country music star was Waylon Jennings! I can't believe Waylon's son Shooter would make such a comment about Jason Aldean's song. Shooter must be jealous because he (Shooter) is not anywhere near as loved, talented or as popular as Waylon Jennings or Jason Aldean!

Shooter Jennings has a right to his opinion, but I respectfully disagree. He is right on many levels though. It DOES sound more rock and roll than country, and yes it IS catchy to the point of Mersh, but those are two reasons why I LIKE it. Plus I have no problems with the lyrics, and I still don't hear any racist overtones.

I'm proud of iiving in a small country town.....we don't have to lock our doors....we do but not because we HAVE to. And I'm more than happy to help my neighbor by picking up something from the grocery for them or seeing their kid off the school bus cause mom is running late. Guess you just have to love where you live to love this song. You have a sale for me Jason and I'd buy it as a gift in a sec. because most everyone I know loves the song too..
