I was a little obsessed with George Jones as a teenager. I joined the Marines bc he was a former Marine. I got NO SHOW tattooed on my arm and I was drunk while stationed in Okinawa. I've read his book 5 times..... George Jones is the greatest singer ever. His voice was pure gold and we will never see another singer like that again. I got to see him twice in concert and I wish more youngsters will find his music so they can appreciate it too.

I last saw him perform at the Rutland fair in Vermont a few years before he passed and he still had it going on. I almost forgot to mention that Pam Tillis opened for him and after her show she stayed and signed autographs until the line was finished .

What was so "shocking" about Charlie Rich's burning of an award card? It was obviously a light-hearted joke to get laughs at the expense of his friend, John Denver. It was just a joke--tame by today's standards. Why do we have to make a scandal out of everything these days? I remember when Olivia Newton-John won Female Vocalist of the Year in 1974, beating out the likes of Loretta Lynn, Anne Murray, Dolly Parton, and Tanya Tucker. I can't remember who announced that she won but I keep thinking maybe it was Flatt or Scruggs or maybe Bill Monroe, but anyway he pronounced her name as Ol-a-vee'-a Newton.... (and then after a lengthy pause he added) John. It was his way of protesting her win because he was in effect saying that she was such an unknown in the country music world that he didn't even recognize her name. He actually may NOT have recognized her name. He was not the only entertainer who was less than thrilled that she won and many fans were not real thrilled either. The odd thing is that one reason they were protesting so much was that she was born in England and raised in Australia and did not fit their idea of a "country" girl, and yet Anne Murray, who they apparently accepted wholeheartedly, was also not a country girl because she was born and raised in Canada. Like I said, very odd.

One moment that isn't remembered as well as these shown here is the night Jeannie Seely performed at the Grand Ole Opry in a mini-skirt. It was the late 1960s and VERY shocking for the time because back then most female country singers still dressed in a similar style to what they'd been wearing in the '50s. So many people involved with the Opry got their noses a bit out of joint seeing a pretty young blonde haired woman showing that much leg that night.

He was mad at Vernon because Vernon wouldn't let him in. Elvis called Jerry Lee crying upset that he couldn't get away and Jerry said he would come get him and they would go out together like the old times. When Jerry showed up at the gate Vernon refused to let him in to see Elvis. So Jerry yelled that he knew Elvis before he was a big star and he was going to go see his friend. He slammed his car into the gates and the police showed up arresting him. Was a gun but it was on the dash of the car. They always had guns. He only shot his bass player but he just winged him lol.

I’m from Knoxville and I’ve never heard of a Andrew Johnson hospital. But Hank Williams did stay at the Andrew Johnson hotel on Gay street. Id always heard that’s where he got one shot. According to my uncle he’d got another shot later. Many locals believe the second shot took his life. My uncle “Slick” Sutherland was best friends with Swan Kitts the officer that pulled Hanks caddy over. Swan said to the day he died-he wished he would’ve pulled Hank outta the back seat of that car because he just knew he was soon to be dead if not dead already.
The Young man Mr Carr that was driving the Caddy kept telling Swan that it was hillbilly singer Hank Williams in the back seat & he was sleeping from a shot the Doctor gave him. He told Swan that he’s gotta get him to a show. Swan told Carr that he’d served in the Korean War and he knows what a dead man looks like & that he believed he was dead or was gonna be. But the Carr boy kept saying he was only sleeping.
My uncle wrote Carl Smith’s first no1 hit “Let Old Mother Nature Have Her Way” & he took me to the very spot Hanks caddy got pulled over. I know the exact spot to this day on Rutledge highway! I wrote a song about it. It’s on TH-cam under Ross Southerland -Hank Williams’ Last Day

I would like to see a documentary made on a country musician named Morris Taylor. He had a country western variety show that was the longest lasting locally produced show in television history. The Morris Taylor show on KHSL Channel 12 in Chico California. The show started in 1956 and ran till 1995, and ran in reruns till 1997. My grandfather took me to a live taping of the show some time in the late 1950s or early 1960s. He also had a radio show on KHSL-AM which was later called KPAY, which is still running to this day. Where I have lived for the past 20-some years behind a restaurant / bar with a stage turns out to be where Morris Taylor got his start performing live. He passed on January 2018 at the age of 93.

One truth nobody cares about is that, unlike the others on this video, Charlie Rich never did anything in his life that got him arrested, or there's no record of that; but yet, there is so much anger directed at him & criticism of "every aspect" of his life.
It shows the unfairness and hypocrisy that's going on everywhere nowadays, and the total unwillingness or inability to keep things in perspective. There have never
been accounts of anything (like his failure to pay taxes or pay his band or 'actual' violence toward anyone) concerning Charlie Rich; unlike some accounts of John Denver's behavior. But that just proves how some people are shown no mercy for any and every misstep or act of misjudgment, prompting merciless outrage by certain individuals, continuing on literally for years after they pass away; whereas, others are given a pass and never criticized no matter what they do in life. It's as
simple as that. And anyone who can't admit that's the truth must be living in an
      altered reality.
A good example is what's going on right now in our political arena. Enough said.
Another was the nationwide televised address in which Nancy Pelosi busily tore
up all the pages in a speech as it was being delivered by the President, & behind
HIS back, with no national outcry or even criticism. I think everyone needs to stop
the selective outrage, or we'll always be called a nation of hypocrites behind
all OUR backs. Not much justice in much that's happening here these days. AND:
the ongoing attacks on Charlie Rich exactly exemplify our flagrant hypocrisy as
a nation, albeit in a microcosm. He didn't set fire to the award; he lit the side of
a presumably hand-written little scrap of paper. Put it in perspective, people.
