- Creepy bodycam footage shows a 45-year-old Oregon man showing up at a 12-year-old girl’s house in Ohio after cyberstalking her for four years. Timothy Nielsen began watching the young girl on TH-cam when she was eight years old. His obsession with her grew over the years and he decided to make his way across the country to ask her on a date. “I’m just trying to get a date with a girl on the internet,” he says in the video. Then, Nielsen announced, “12’s too old, I was looking for a six-year-old.” He was found guilty of menacing by stalking and importuning, and sentenced to four and a half years behind bars.

I disagree and I HATE generalizing, but I’d say 80% of truckers are just like this guy. I’ve met so many through my job and just when I thought I’ve met “the creepiest one yet”… another one seemingly ten times as bad shows up. True but legally speaking, he hadnt done anything wrong yet. That's why they kept talking to him to get him to build a case on himself and they had to find something, anything that they could justify an arrest. Arresting him when he’s done nothing wrong gets the police officer involved in trouble (on paper) and only keeps the man away for a few days. Arresting him when he’s actually broken the law opens up the opportunity to prove it in a court of law which can get him convicted. Conviction would get him jail time and a registration making it easier to lock him up if he does this again and proves a pattern so it could be locked up longer too

No - I think the police officer was just using the tactic of "keeping him talking" so he would not run away : that way, you get the story out of the guy, find out some history etc and it helps to build a case of stalking against him (as it's clear a tricky area & there needs to be a concrete legal reason for an arrest).

FBI is involved, he should be arrested on the spot for STALKING. This is why parents have to be the law when the law doesn’t protect the children and protects the creeps instead.

@@theangellad- Incorrect. Detaining and arresting are two different things. You can’t arrest people without cause, you need an actual charge. The police were trying to find an applicable charge that would stick and not have him taken in on a lesser offense only to be released in less than a day.

Definitely there are way way way too many people with mental illnesses out on the streets and majority of them aren't on their meds and many are doing drugs which makes things even worse.

Talking about crimes isn't itself a crime. The pervert had to cross the line before he could be handcuffed.
Harrassment is pretty low level until it's sustained and verified by law enforcement. The guy reporting that verbally, even if the harrassment victim is a child, probably isn't enough to go in cuffs. If I had to guess, he knew the lines not to cross and didn't mention anything very explicit in the messages, otherwise he'd be in cuffs.
