Abyssal Mask for MR is an underrated item for Voli, gives him everything he wants and amps his damage quite a bit (as well as damage of all other magic abusers on your team). I prefer it over Spirit Visage. Frozen Heart is also useful over IBG for this particular build, though I like IBG a lot. I personally go RoA, Navori, Riftmaker, Situational Resistances (Jak'Sho too). Right now the best Voli build overall for top lane is probably Spear of Shojin into Riftmaker into situational resistances. Navori is hilarious into melee comps and has a place absolutely but spear into rift feels reeeaaaallll nice. Cosmic Drive also super underrated item. Spear into Cosmic/IBG feels great if you pick voli early and end up against a lot of ranged. Ult or flash gets you into the fight, then they can't run away ever.
In tougher matchups than snowballing an illaoi, you want to play around your W cooldown more with spacing as even with an auto attack steroid passive, trading autos isnt THAT good into a lot of champions and its best to space for W.
The only thing better than blasting wand first back is a Kindlegem. Voli W scales off health and CDR.

you need to start doran blade for 3 stacks on jack of all trades, and on first back you get +5CDR item and boots so you stack 5 and get 10 adaptive force from rune. Huge spike. and helps a lot getting the 10 stacks.

important note to that voli strat, you HAVE to be buy d blade, not ring. With d blade, you get the 5 point threshhold of jack of all trades rune. Thats the point of that strat, to get those stacks as quick as possible.
