- We hope you enjoy this recording of "The Unprincipled Affair of the Practical Joker" by Dorothy Sayers. This story is part of a collection of short stories titled "Lord Peter Views the Body", first published in 1928 and featuring the aristocratic sleuth Lord Peter Wimsey. In this story, Lord Peter is involved in a case of stolen jewels, and blackmail as he tries to help a desperate woman who seeks his advice.
I enjoyed this. Thank you.
At first I was disturbed by the accent, but a few minutes in I stopped hearing it.
This is a lovely reading, clear and beautifully paced.
Thank you.
I loved the narration. Ian Carmichael is not the standard I judge by. I look forward to the others! Thsnks!
I enjoyed the reader and the story. What a fun little one. Thank you!!
Wonderful narration, no fake plummy tones and read at a good pace.
wrong voice, can't follow the story
Not a good reader anyway. .. but very American . Difficult to follow. I agree
O goodness no. It sounds like a automated voice. Sorry 😢
great
An American accent? Simply not cricket
It’s not the Americanness that bothers me it’s the slurring.
Shame about the reader!

Lord Peter wimsey does not have an American /Canadian voice? Gave up. If it's going to be read st least do it in the correct voice. As pointed out its not a drama but is read by an actor who should be able to do it. Uk actors are very good at being able to do many accents perhaps one of them should have been used.
Wow. You are a stickler for voices. Myself it’s the story itself that interests me. The only voices I struggle with are the dull monotone ones.
Your correct. Having culture makes it unbearable to listen to a story with British or Belgium or Russian etc. Carractors being read in U.S. English. I get it.
Opps. Wrong spelling.
Maybe Danny Dyer? Good UK accent. This is FREE. You are not paying for this at all. You're lucky to hear it. The reader is a volunteer. I prefer a UK accent too but I certainly don't feel aggrieved or in a position to complain.
This is just a reading, not a radio play with actors. I enjoyed it very much. It's unfortunate for you that you did not.
Not the right reader the voice and accent does not work😮
Agree. Bit like Roger daltry singing My Way ughh
This is an audiobook, not an audio drama. I don't hear any accents when I read to myself
What accent?
@@marvfj6451 American🤔
With all due respect to the reader he could put in a decent effort. The accent didn’t bother me too much but there seemed no attempt to differentiate voices, no variation of pacing, it was all read too fast without emphasis. Such a drone was good to send me to sleep though. The voice has potential but needs some real effort put into it.
Could not listen who choose this person !
Libravox is a volunteer organization. This is simply a narration, not a radio play or a performance. This gentleman had a lovely voice, did not get paid, and did an excellent job. it didn't cost you a thing. if you had opened your closed mind, you might have enjoyed it.
Sobranies, accent on second syllable, pls.
No - accent is wrong and actor not up to the task - perhaps would better suited to portray a southern gent or a NY stock exchange mogul.
This is FREE. You are not paying for this at all. You're lucky to hear it. The reader is a volunteer. I prefer a UK accent too but I certainly don't feel aggrieved or in a position to complain.
Ian Carmichael.
This no talent
American
Ain't.
Shame.
You are not paying for this at all. You're lucky to hear it. The reader is a volunteer. I prefer a UK accent too but I certainly don't feel aggrieved or in a position to complain. Don't you know how Libravox works? The actor certainly is talented. Do a better job if you want. Otherwise appreciate what you don't have to listen to and get for free.
Well said @@granthurlburt4062
