    It’s good to see the two of you having a chat. Was watching the two of you separately for several years and now you guys from time to time connect. I loved Simon started out as a teacher, accidentally. Which is similar to me. Been teaching in HK for 8 years now and heading to retirement in a few months - in Chiang Mai. Well done Jon.

    Great testament from two regular guys having the courage and faith to chase their preferred lifestyles instead of succumbing to the rut most of their contemporaries settled for.

    I was in Chiang Mai a few months ago and it was largely torn up with construction on roads and sidewalks. You had to walk on the busy road because there were huge holes where sidewalks used to be. Really crazy. Also the red truck mafia made it very hard to get around. And Grab is run by the Thai taxi mafia. I went to Chiang Mai many times before the lockdown and it was nice. It's a total wreck now. Many business still closed and many hotels for sell. I won't ever go there again because the local gov obviously doesn't care about tourists to out us through this mess. It will take many many years for Chiang Mai to recover, if ever. These guys on YT aren't telling you the truth. They're in sales. They're selling ads and properties. Buyer beware.

    • @JonInChiangMai
      @JonInChiangMai  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmm, interesting, as someone who lives here I don't see it like that, Chiang Mai is on the up, but that's my opinion :)

    • @userdhss-hsjs
      @userdhss-hsjs หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JonInChiangMai Yes, we all have opinions, some more informed and/or less biased than others. I also lived in CM for many years but left when it collapsed. I thought it would have recovered by now but I was wrong. Correct me if I'm wrong but you just moved into CM city after living in a remote area for many years, so I'm not sure your perspective is reliable. Also, your claim that CM is on the up is the same opinion as Perfect Homes, the realtors. It's all sales. My assessment of CM is 100% accurate. And I'm not selling anything. CM is run down and largely deserted compared to pre-lockdown. The difference is like night and day.

    • @AndiGomez-yu2dx
      @AndiGomez-yu2dx 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@userdhss-hsjs I agree with you. I was drawn to the place through watching TH-cam videos and hearing the hype through other social media platforms. My experience when I actually moved there was quite the opposite.. terribly busy roads, (just as bad as Bangkok during certain hours) tons of constant road works, nightlife was incredibly tame given the fact it’s Thailands second major city, and the Air pollution was absolutely horrendous for 3 months of the year!
      One thing I did really like, was some of the beautiful countryside and mountains in the province and surrounding provinces, but that was only really enjoyable during the ‘winter’ months.

    I find Simon's videos to come across condescending to his lady presenters. I had to watch this video to see him interacting with someone else.
    Seems alright, but I do think he needs to be humbler with them.
    I would like to add, I enjoyed him in this video. Hearing his story and the hard work and work ethic... he is the kind of guy that seems focused and purposed.

    • @sissisquiltandbatik

      I agree...I felt sorry for them, ladies, his western way of jokes is insulting them I feel, he needs to respect the thai tradition of speaking/joking in Thailand, they don't want to "lose their face" so I only watched the 1..only 1 video then I stoped watching him. Hope he do better for next 23 years😊

    • @GrandmasterLix
      @GrandmasterLix หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I completely disagree with you. On the contrary I find their banter funny and very refreshing in an otherwise hypersensitive and dull pool of youtube videos tripping over themselves to not say the wrong thing. He is never condescending, always polite, and always a jokester. You can tell they aren't offended in any way by watching the videos. Because they know he's joking. The problem is you're offended on behalf of someone who isn't offended. And the notion that he should humble himself before his junior employees (that are half his age, some probably fresh out of highschool, make very good money by local standards, and have a fraction of his life experience) is absurd. A good boss should always be polite, but going around showing deference to employees is counter productive. I learned this the hard way both as employee and employer. This came across as a rant, but it's principles and concepts I've often thought of.
      Have a nice day.

    • @wusen
      @wusen หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@GrandmasterLix I mostly agree with you. Banters, compliments or otherwise are common in Thai interaction. However, your target audience is non-Thai and, as such, you don't want to alienate the viewers who may not understand and see it as condescending toward your female employees. In other words, joking is fine, but asking the employee to get on an exercise machine may not be a good idea.

      I’ll jump in on this conversation. As I’m preparing for our move I watch a LOT of Simon’s videos. Many of the girls give as well as they take. The better their English the more sassy they are with Simon. Their personality comes out.
