    From my neighbor:
The door lock sensor. The tip off is that the door unlocks the doors as you approach, without touching the car or fob. The power drain is that door sensor connecting via radio waves with your fob over and over. They can connect over a great distance. Power drain will continue until fob is out of range or remove fob battery. Took 3 trips over 8 months until a factory engineer visited the dealership. He knew the problem right away. Hope that helps

My neighbor had a similar problem with a 2018/19 Honda Accord.
The problem was a sensor that kept tripping and drawing battery. They took it in multiple times and finally got an engineer out to look at it. The engineer instantly figured out it was some sensor on the door that (if memory serves), has to do with the key fob proximity. They got it fixed and now have no issues.

I have a 2018 Honda Odyssey as well but haven't had these issues. Yea, there have been recalls, and I just did them as they notified me about them, no issues. I suspect it's incompetence at the dealers in your area. 2018 is the first year of the new Odysseys so there were bound to be issues, but it would seem to me a competent electronics systems mechanic could track down your problem. Maybe you'll need to take it to a highly rated local independent mechanic (not a Honda dealer since they apparently suck in your area). Yea, it would be more money but probably worth it. Or just trade it in for a Sienna.

**EDIT: the following solution applies to models with incandescent headlights. I am not sure if it works with models with LED headlights**
TL;DR- DRIVING WITH HEADLIGHTS ON IS THE SOLUTION. Feel free to read on and learn about the problem... The unusually shitty charging system in this Honda model is supposed to be a feature but it's actually a flaw. The foolish charging system is designed to improve fuel economy, the unintended consequence of which is shortened battery life. The god awful charging system allows the system to starve at about 12.3V I have personally found while driving, unless there is a large current draw, or if the battery is really getting drained to a point where it's about to die. You can overcome this ridiculous charging system by driving with your HEADLIGHTS ON all the time. I know this because I checked it out with an OBD2 meter that gives a running voltage measurement while driving. After I replaced my battery I saw that the car was running at 12.3 volts unless I turned my fan on all the way high or if I drove with my headlights on. With a large current draw you can see the voltage go up to 14.1. Initially I was baffled by this and after doing a lot of research I found that Honda uses an assinine dual mode charging system. I also spoke to a mechanic who said the alternators have clutches so that at certain points they're not even spinning. All in the name of fuel economy at the cost of our safety.

Reach out to a lemon lawyer. Mine is also 2018 and I'm currently working with Knights law group because of 2 major issue which turned out that the service people at Culver city Honda knew about but told me it was a unique issue they can't figure out. My auto collision mitigation system hard brakes on me while I'm driving out of nowhere. Acceleration delay is another one. I thought I just ended up with a crumby build odessey but turns out tons and tons of odessey owners are having the same issue. Side door latch opening while driving is a new one to me so you seem to have a better case than I do. Good luck.

There is no way I am driving a van full of kids with all these problems and I can't charge my phone??? I will call Honda head quarter and file an official complaint to Honda's CEO and his mother about it. I hope they solved your problem.

I also have a 2018 Odyssey RES + NAV, less than a week after driving off the lot major oil leak. Had to replace the short block. I'm trying to sell my vehicle for a loss to get into something better. Oil hasn't leaked ever since, but all the recalls on this vehicle keeps me on edge while driving it. I'm just hoping something else goes wrong with the engine, so that we can pursue the lemon law. Thanks for posting the problems with this car and how the dealers rip their customers off. Most of people do not know car. Low voltage battery (under normal level) would cause all electric problems, which it means the battery is needed to be replaced. All cars cannot be recharged or even drained too much while driving. It is included interior electronic, headlight, ac, auto start off function… etc.

  • @2amchef16

Not sure if the comments mentioned this already but most likely this guy is having a problem with his idle stop system. You can get a cancellation module or just remember to turn it off every time. That should stop his battery from being drained. Honda/Acura is facing a class action lawsuit for this.

During the test ride, everything went smoothly until i was about to get off the highway to return to the dealership, the exact same thing happened to my test drive car. Luckily, I was not far from the dealership and was able to get back slowly under 15miles an hour. Glad it happened during my test drive, otherwise I would have made the deposit check!!! Now I don’t work for Honda but I own 3 Honda’s the we only had 2 issues with our 2017 Honda Odyssey Touring and that’s it she only had about 8 miles when we bought it which was 5 years ago and now it has close to 190,000 it’s still running like a champ. You won’t have the cabin watch you won’t have adapted cruse control you won’t have hill start you won’t have the electric parking braking you won’t get the vacuum nor (CarPlay/ android auto). It does have parking sensors lane departure warning auto trunk fog lights push button start auto lights auto doors navigation system Bluetooth/usb and aux that’s it. But we’ve owned 2 odysseys 1 that was a 09 it was grate it was a ex-l and we traded that one in for the 2017 Honda Odyssey Touring so just a suggestion.

I bought a 2019 Honda Odyssey for my wife and this is 2nd time we have a battery issue, the good think this time it happened at a parking lot, I asked a question on you tube while I’m waiting for Honda road assistance, I found a video explaining how to jump it, because the battery has only the + no negative ground and finally I successfully jumped it, after watching the video on TH-cam, my conclusion, and I’ll say briefly, never ever charge phones the engine is NOT running.. if you try to charge your phone in 5 minutes, the engine won’t start😱

So we pay get the odyssey back and he says oh btw I put the parking brake on. Me: uh ok

Although I did not have problems as bad as yours, I did have similar issues on my 2018 Honda Odyssey. The problem turned out to be something really dumb, and the fix very easy. It was a loose battery connection. I discovered this after reading some forum posts with other owners with the same problem. I checked my battery connection and sure enough it was slightly loose and not set correctly on the terminal. Once I reseated it on the terminal and tightened it really good so it would not move or wiggle at all, I have had zero issues.

Currently dealing with the EXACT same issue with my 2019 EXL Honda Odyssey. I’m on my second battery since buying it brand new, all kinds of electrical issues, and Honda is doing nothing. My dealership quoted me $675 today to replace the AGM battery and the blower vent fan under the battery, which is meant to keep the battery cool. They said they are 75% sure this is the issue. I took it to Auto Zone to see if it threw a code after having to get jump started when it left me and my family stranded. They said it did: P0600, which is emissions system problem. Honda said it didn’t throw a code. So pissed!

My 2012 Oddy exl still runs like a champ. Bought the car from a small dealership at 142k miles. That was since 2019 of Oct. Now it's 2023, I'm at 216k miles. I've done alot of driving and ofc, some repairs and replacements. New batteries, new front control arms, new steering rack, new wheel hub/wheel bearings, new axles, new inner and outter tie rods, new brake kits, new sway bar links, new suspensions, new power steering high pressure hose, new tires, new coils, new spark plugs, and vcm muzzled. All these I self done. I do the work knowing what I've done. ofc, next things to be ahead of the problems to do are the valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket, water pump, timing belt, new cat, and finish up with rear new control arms, new rear toe arms, new sway bar bushings, new serpentine belt, and new idle tensioner. Just basic things after 200k. No worries of electrical problems or whatsoever. Just maintenace wise things. Might seem like alot but I prefer to stay ahead of the problems. Doing my own oil changes and transmission flush saves me money and time. Shooting for 1Million miles for a free newer Oddy in the future.

I have a 2019 and the only issue I've had is the random voltage drain. Yesterday I drove to my brother's house and helped him move a couple things around. 15 minutes later I tried to start it to drive home and the battery didn't have enough voltage to start it.(12.1v)
I'm not sure what's causing this intermittent issue, but I'm going to call Honda about it soon. There's no way the battery should be draining immediately after a drive.
Update: it ended up being a dead cell in the battery.

    @ 150,000 the transmission quit.
Kicker = every single issue I've had, is a known issue. Honda didn't fix not one.
I'm still making payments on a car that is sitting, because a transmission is too expensive to replace. $7000

I’m commenting because I want this to be taken up as a major lemon law issue. I too have had an assortment of electrical problems/malfunctions; doors /windows operating on there own, car suddenly losing all electrical power, battery dead. The dealership (Larry H Miller) gives the impression that they think it’s funny how many times I’ve had a new battery put in. Since it’s too costly to fight and Honda doesn’t seem to care one but I’m going to trade it in while it’s hopefully running. Honda really should be refunding money or replacing vehicles. There’s thousands of people with this problem.

Therefore I bought a Noco Genius2 smart charger to top off the battery every month - problem solve. I like the idea so much that I top of my 2009 Honda Pilot AGM battery every month too. Wish I would've used Noco to top off batteries years ago since it will keep your batteries in top condition and extend life. It's worth the effort in my opinion.

  • @SingCheongChen
    @SingCheongChen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

I recently acquired a 2006 Odyssey, and found something that can help you as I have done a round of DIY fix (I do my own car repair). My gut feel is the battery drain from the rear power sliding door, and interior light (if door not latched, then this light will turn on). To determine whether I am correct, (1) disconnect fuse of the power sliding door (2) turn off interior ceiling lights
Once you confirmed that I am right, then I can comment further. If you are frustrated to wait for my help, then leave the fuse disconnected (no power sliding door, no interior light), and the battery will stop draining immediately.
In other word, battery drained is common for Odyssey due to lubrication drying up, or a microswitch (it uses a small switch which its electronic term is microswitch) broken. So this is not just happen to your 2018 model, but to all Odyssey since older model. Downgrade to older Odyssey won't fully address it, but identify and lubricate the gear or microswitch is the right path approach.

    • @dmitryk7320
      @dmitryk7320 ปีที่แล้ว

As an owner of even older Odyssey I agree with you that the drain might be connected to the door, but not necessary to the interior light, because it might be off with the door closed but still unlatched - this is based on my experience with Odyssey doors. On the other hand his van has less than 30K miles, it is almost brand new car by the standard of used cars and it should have no such problems whatsoever. Also, I read a forum of Ody owners the other day and I was amazed with a number of posts about transmission problems. Starting from the very first generation of these vans in 2000 and up to the last generation of 2020 Honda was unable to make a reliable transmission. It is 20 years!!! And for 20 years owners have been facing the same problem - failing transmissions. I think this is all that a person should know when choosing a new or used Honda.

I own a 2019 Honda Odyssey and it breaks every other year. I WILL NOT buy a HONDA vehicle in my life again!! Honda vehicles are made to fail after the 2nd or 3rd year. Lot of issues, timing belt, induction system, transmission sensors etc, etc! DO NOT BUY A HONDA ODYSSEY look for other options from the competition instead.

It's super easy to do a diagnosis on this vehicle and find out if there is in fact a parasitic drain. 60 milliamps is a little high should be something like no more than 50 milliamps and under. Put an amp clamp on the negative battery, time out the vehicle so all the modules go to sleep. Start measuring voltage drop across the fuses. Half these idiots today in these dealerships don't even know how to do that.

Same issue with my 2019 Odyssey Elite at 22k. Can't jump start the van cause the type of battery that the Odyssey start/stop feature. I didn't care to call Honda Road Side Service. I called the dealership service dept where I bought the car. They told me to have the car tow in for them to diagnose the issue but will not replace the battery without being diagnose. Heck no, no time for that! Went to Advance Auto and purchased a DieHard Platium AGM myself which cost me $250ish tax included. The van been running like a champ! Also, whenever I start my van I turn off the idle-stop feature. Yes, that does use up your battery! Also, Honda using cheap batteries for their vehicles. When you take your car to the dealership, they'll replace the same cheap battery but charging you a premium.

Battery issues are common in other cars as well if you keep display on for long. Ideally if sitting inside car, Odyssey keep this display on which consume lot of battery power and eventually drain the battery or weak the battery prematurely if you have a habit to keep display on to listen radio etc. Other recalls for sliding doors are already there. Battery issues cause other warning displays which are again linked to driving habits in my opinion.

Our odyssey had same issue until I found out they are using GDI engines so basically the valves don’t have fuel flow over them to enter the engine, so fuel additives don’t help. They put a special tube atop the engine and it uses a $15 bottle of cleaner every 20k miles. Fixed my problem immediately that I had for a year and hasn’t come back.

It’s the computer part of the van that glitches. We have taken it to Honda twice now and still have issues. It is dangerous. I was in Destin, FL and traffic was thick. Came to a stop at a light and the van decided to go from drive to park. Light turned green and the van would not respond. It would not go back to drive.
