I purchased a 1-6 power scope for $100.00! It is incredibly clear and well made! Hi. Just a very minor observation. I just received 2 new Discovery Genlls in the last week. I now have 3 of the Genlls and a Gen l. Fantastic. I also have 4 Arken EP-5s. One thing I just noticed on the 2 new Discovery Genlls, they have changed the throw lever. My 2 older scopes have the round, threaded lever like your lead picture. The new one have what appears to be a much sturdier design which comes already attached. Maybe they had complaints of the round ones falling off? Mine are fine since, I use Blue Loctite. Just a great example of the way Discovery is on a continuous improvement process. Of course, Today Amazon dropped the price another $30. just my luck. Now saving for the new Arken 7-35X56 Genll. Great channel!!!!!!
I almost forgot... The new scopes also come with the upgraded 'honed' rings. Of course, the ones that come with the scope are too tall for my taste. They would be perfect on an AR platform. On all my varmint/target rifles, I use the 0.97" rings, and the sunshade clears the barrel by 1/4". These are absolutely the best rings I've ever used!!
For scopes, I much prefer a good fitting plastic clip on throw. I've had one too many accidents where a rifle got knocked over and worry that the screw ones will snap off at the base.
Bought the HD gen2 4-24x50 and the only thing I can do is agreeing with you. Superb crystal clear and resistance for a 400€ scope. Looking forward for the Vector brand and Arken ones!
I have the gen 2 and it tracks awsome. Very happy with it so far. I have it mounted on a Savage Ashbury precision, in .308 win. I have 200 rounds through it without a hiccup.
Great video with all the details! Initially I am planning to purchase Arken optic digital day/night scope .. but now I am debating which one get lol What’s your thoughts ?
I have the old gen VT-T 6-24 FFP mrad the scope before the HD series. it is having similar issue on full magnifications it loses brightness a little bit cannot compare to vortex helix but in the same time I am able to see my hits on the target even 300 meters away or when hitting the dirt with air rifle and that's why keep it till now its just doing its job with weight of around 722 grams. But the ED is deffently worthy improvement.
As everything was solid mounted for the video (great picture from that, btw), it left out how the parallax effect was. That is, when you shift off direct center of the scope, the blur on the sides. Better scopes compensate for this, so you can be off center quite a bit and still get a good field of view in the scope. How did this compare on that? Sorry to go all technical, but you piqued my interest greatly with your review.
Paralax was good. Comparably flat field of focus to my other go-to scopes like Vortex, Athlon, etc. But you can't go off center too much with scope because of its narrow eyebox (exit pupil).
Could you see if they will send you the HD 2-12? I'd really like to see a review on that one. Also, could you do you do a follow up of the turrets holding zero and abuse test after firing from something like a 308 Win?
I'm testing out a ED 3-15x right now so subscribe and hit that bell. There was somebody that posted a comment that they've fired 200rnds of 308 through his ED-PRS.
I was going to order one on 4-4-24 and it was going to be 1to 4 weeks to ship! Contacted company they said it takes a while to make one so I guess they aren't manufactured till you order it? I ordered another Athlon!
Even Leupold has some models that are sold out from time to time nowadays. Smaller companies don't have a lot of production capacity whether they have their own factory or contract out. They probably build them in batches of 100-1k at a time depending on demand.
While the “Lifetime Warranty” sounds impressive, it has a glitch. There is no US/North America distributer to deal with. You will be responsible for shipping to and from China should you have an issue with a Discovery optic. This based on experience a few years ago, hopefully that has improved. They are good scopes for the price.
It's slightly sharper than my EP5 but really pretty even match, but it's much heavier and doesn't quite look as nice. If you can get the EP5 with a promo Precision Pack then the Arken is my pick.
In the past when I showed zero testing, the only comments I'd get about a scope holding zero was about how bad my groups were or that me or my gun sucked. Suffice it to say if a scope fails my zero test, I will show it. Otherwise, I don't bother filming that anymore.
When you site it in and reset your turret cap, how do you get the bottom edge of the turret cap to align with the zero reference line on the turret body? Frustrated.
Discovery has a site wide sale going right now. Everything is 25% off. I picked this one up for $299. Couldn't pass up the deal. If you're looking to review another Discovery, now would be a good time to get the 5-40x56. They just upgraded it too. Plus there's only a couple of reviews on the upgraded version. I'd like to see your review on it
@@Moondog2A Thanks! I read the first few batches of the 5-40x had some issues. Discovery says they listened to customer feedback and upgraded the glass and internals, but I'm not sure what internals. It's to bad that R&D decided to use a rear lens cap that requires complete removal, especially considering the glass is not recessed very much... Do you know or even think that an after market lens cap can be fitted... It really doesn't look like it the way the body is contoured... Great review as always, thanks n' God bless
your scope review and social regressive scope review are the best I've seen so far on TH-cam. could you compare this scope with the Arken EP5-25x56 for both price and clarity ?
Social Regressive? Clarity is really about the same on both scopes. The Discovery is heavier. Great if you're a Benchrest or F/class shooter but not so much if you're hunting obviously. The Discovery is cheaper (depending on where you buy it I suppose?)
One thing I find lacking in the review is testing to handle recoil. It would be nice to see the point where this scope develops the dreaded "dancing reticle". Maybe have a range of four guns to test it on with varying levels of recoil.
Maybe when I get an ammo sponsor. If I test it with my .308, somebody will complain I didn't show how it handles 200 rounds...And then some 300 WinMag guy will say .308 is nothing... then the.50BMG says hold my beer. LOL.
They are about equal in performance. The Discovery comes with more accessories. But the EP5 is a better looking scope in terms of design. Hope you subscribed.
Unfortunately Discovery doesn't seem to sell any of the included accessories other than scope rings for their products. www.discoveryopt.com/OpticsScopes-HuntingOpticsMall.html
Yes it does. And they claim it will stand up to 50BMG but I can not personally attest to that. I hope one of my viewers who has a 50BMG can chime in with their 1st had account?

The scope mount needs to be at least a 20 MOA in order to be usable at distance. I have the discoveryopt 20 moa mount. They need to make a 25 and 30 MOA mount and sell it for the same $35.
That's a good suggestion. Discovery does make a 20 MOA mount. 39 is a darn cheap price. amzn.to/4aav2wB Pair that with a 20MOA rail from 419 and that's plenty
@MoondogIndustries I prefer to avoid the 20 moa rails if I can, because it adds another thing that can loosen up. I'm able to get out to 1,000 yd, with just the 20 moa scope mount, but if I was to push further 1,200 to 1,500 I would fall short then we have no choice but to add on the 20 moa rail as you suggested. Still, it would be nice if Discoveryopt would make us a 25 and 30 moa cantilever scope mount. Perhaps you can suggest it to them. They would not have any competition and they would get all the sales.
Do you know why the Gen II 5-30x56 is $400.00 USD while this Gen II 5-25X56 is $300.00 USD? I got the 5-30 for reaching power. Not bad at all to my Zeiss and Smith & Bender on my ATG Gold L115A3 (modified by my uncle). My 5-30 was free because my uncle was once a Col of the SAS. Malcolm Douglas Cooper was my uncle's friend. And uncle gave me one (above rifle) of his rifles because he knew the EDM XM .408 was just too heavy for me to carry & shoot. Please don't think that Made In China is bad. You do know that Apple products are made in China, right? My uncle says, "If you don't know about your tools /or equipment /or not taught by the best, you will always be making excuses."
Nice about your uncle and you getting his scope. There are may good optics made in China. But for every good optic there are 100 crapy scopes made in some factory but marketed under dozen different brand names.
Ffp all the way hold over is always the same plus being able to mil target for range if lrf packs up Hand loads 130 or 105 vld hunting running around 3000 fps
Only one downside: parallax adjustment not going bellow 25 yards. Whether you are a plinker, or a hunter, you just might find yourself in a need to precisely aim at 7, 8 or 10 yards. But, that was the side effect of huge (x5) zooming range, I guess..
Modern phone camera are so good a low light that I haven't been able to accurately compare footage at low light with scopes. Sometimes my footage ends up darker than I saw or waaaay brighter.

It's to bad that R&D decided to use a rear lens cap that requires complete removal, especially considering the glass is not recessed very much... Do you know or even think that an after market lens cap can be fitted... It really doesn't look like it the way the body is contoured...
Great review as always, thanks n' God bless
Thanks! You could probably use an after market flip cap intended for a front because the diopter is so oversized? A bra style could be found too.
A review is no good without a price point.
There's a link to the current price on Amazon on my website. The link is in the video description. I mention this in the video.
@@Moondog2Ano link in description

It's called the Internet; maybe you've heard of it. $399 right now on their website. Completely Chinese made if that makes a difference to you.
How do you like the 5-30? Can you please review it.
I plan to in the new year.
I wish the giveaway would be available to countries outside of US and Canada... Euorpe folk here
Actually it is. Discovery told me they would ship worldwide, unless your country restricts firearms accessories imports from China.
@@Moondog2A daaamn, that's great news 😃. Your rules stated to be only for US and Canada
@@imeprezime1069 Let me revise that because my normal contests restrict to those locals but this time Discovery is shipping it from China.

Great job, can you compare this to the Arken EP5 5-25x56? Thanks
Have you subscribed? Sure, how's this th-cam.com/video/5UmyCEIIpZo/w-d-xo.html
@@Moondog2Ayeppers 👍
your scope review and social regressive scope review are the best I've seen so far on TH-cam.
could you compare this scope with the Arken EP5-25x56 for both price and clarity ?
Social Regressive?
Clarity is really about the same on both scopes. The Discovery is heavier. Great if you're a Benchrest or F/class shooter but not so much if you're hunting obviously. The Discovery is cheaper (depending on where you buy it I suppose?)
@@Moondog2A better check the prices for Arken they appear to be the same.
The Social Regressive !
@@DLN-ix6vf Where are you seeing prices? Amazon has the Arken at 475 and the Discovery at 321 (with rings!) amzn.to/4fj84Gd

Great review, what kind of mount do you use for filming through the glass ?
A modified version of a telescope mount. amzn.to/3UrKUpn
Why is the scope mounted 3 feet above the gun?
I would have normally chosen shorter mounts but these the are the mounts that were included with the scope.
I'm giving away an ED-PRS scope moondogindustries.com/contest/
Would this work well for a AR10 with an 18 inch barrel?
Without a doubt. There are some other guys who reported they have this mounted on their 308 semi-autos.
I'm giving away an ED-PRS scope moondogindustries.com/contest/
Other than those rings being to tall for me, this seems like an optic I need to take a closer look at. How does this compare the Arken EP5?
They have other hieghts you can select? These were the height they sent me.
I did it. Ep-5 is still a bit better. SH-4 genII is also a bit better then HD genII. So Discovery is a stepdown brand to Arken.
I'm giving away an ED-PRS scope moondogindustries.com/contest/
One thing I find lacking in the review is testing to handle recoil. It would be nice to see the point where this scope develops the dreaded "dancing reticle". Maybe have a range of four guns to test it on with varying levels of recoil.
Maybe when I get an ammo sponsor. If I test it with my .308, somebody will complain I didn't show how it handles 200 rounds...And then some 300 WinMag guy will say .308 is nothing... then the.50BMG says hold my beer. LOL.
I'm giving away an ED-PRS scope moondogindustries.com/contest/
Mine has held up fine to around 750 rounds of .308 so far. Most of that was 175 grain M118 ammo.
very well presented review sir .. thank you

How long did it take to receive your scope?
In your opinion what's the better scope the Arken ep-5 or this new Discovery
They are about equal in performance. The Discovery comes with more accessories. But the EP5 is a better looking scope in terms of design.
Hope you subscribed.

Very cool👍, I’ve been looking for a budget scope to put on my Ruger American TALO .308. You may have sold me on this one .

Are these about the same as the Arken scopes?
The ED-PRS is a bit heavier but optically about as sharp as my Arken EP5. Maybe a hair sharper.

The reticle is not bright. But if the reticle can not be clear at low light, maybe you can get an exchange from Discovery?
Is the discovery better than the ep5?
It's a little bit sharper than my EP5 but it's heavier. So I'll keep the EP5 on my rifle.

39 is a darn cheap price. amzn.to/4aav2wB
Pair that with a 20MOA rail from 419 and that's plenty

But for every good optic there are 100 crapy scopes made in some factory but marketed under dozen different brand names.
where did you see the price of HD5-30 for 400 ?
Where can I buy this scope
See the links at the bottom of my article. Discovery ships worldwide. moondogindustries.com/discovery-ed-prs-gen2-5-25x56-ffp/
Ffp all the way hold over is always the same plus being able to mil target for range if lrf packs up
Hand loads 130 or 105 vld hunting running around 3000 fps
What distance do you typically shoot?
Steel out 1200 m hunting deer 100 to 400 vermin out to 600 small target hit or clean miss
Only one downside: parallax adjustment not going bellow 25 yards. Whether you are a plinker, or a hunter, you just might find yourself in a need to precisely aim at 7, 8 or 10 yards. But, that was the side effect of huge (x5) zooming range, I guess..
