    Modding a DD tips:
    1. Less is more.
    2. Dont cheap out on very important parts (tires, wheels, tune, etc)
    3. cheap out on aesthetics that will get used/worn (new emblems, front lips/skirts,)
    4. have enough height for snow.
    5. planning is EVERYTHING.
    6. Interior upgrades are just as important as exterior/performance.

    Great overview. The daily should always prioritize reliability and functionality. Everything else (making it look good and fun to drive, adding performance) should never take away from reliability or functionality, and also not break your budget. I totally believe in prioritizing a fun daily, which is why I'm still driving my (lightly modded) Impreza Sport. Once I retire in a few years, I'll have the luxury of not having to prioritize reliability.

    The 1 thing I would add to this is to make sure if you mod your interior you dont go too aggressive with changing your seats and get something just as thick as the stock seat. I swapped the seats in my 9th gen civic lx to Braum adjustable sport seats on a planted seat bracket, and while its comfy I feel EVERYTHING on the road and it wears my back down pretty quickly. Did a 4 hour road trip 1 day and i thought i was gonna die when I got back home lol. For short trips theyre just fine tho.

    Realize that a daily driver might not be a pseudo sports car. If you have a truck or an off-road capable SUV, take some of these recommendations with a pinch of salt as you might wanna lift the vehicle a bit, put some all terrain tires on, and maybe might go with some wheels that are purpose-built. Exhaust might not be a necessity if you’re looking to go with a utilitarian styled build.
    Being a car guy is not just street builds, but an off-road vehicle might be for you if you’re not into the street scene and prefer a rugged car 😊

    • @DreamJMan
      @DreamJMan 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for this. I'm more of a truck/off-road guy myself. And even then, I'm more into the Baja scene, so sometimes it's hard finding things for that. Usually it's just crazy lifts, huge rims, or overlanding setups 😅

Its loud with its 3in turboback exhaust, mean sitting on 05 sti struts, and not too hot because even though I deleted the ac unit, it's got a moonroof half the length of the ceiling. Im a mechanic. This guy isnt. So let me tell you how to modify your daily drivers.
    $3000 sound system
    $5500 wheels and tires
    $250 straight pipe
    $0 pole side swipe indent
    $0 rip interior out to make it unbearable but faster
    Hell yeah kids lets get it.
    For me though. Its a maintained 2019 Cruze. Upgraded the headlights, added better sound system. Did some reliability things. $57 CAD on premium to fill it up and getting around 800km on a tank. Its ideal to me as it does everything thats needed and is easily ignored. My g8 gxp was meant to be a daily but they are rare here and it turns the wrong heads to just leave places and road trip.

    All-seasons are only all season in places like Georgia. For somewhere like NY using all-seasons in the winter will get your car totaled. Slight exaggeration but so are “all-season” tires, if you haven’t read what the manufacturers say. They’re only good for a dusting of snow.

    Power should be the last thing you do on a daily driver. Heck even fitting a modest audio system with sound deadening will make your car a joy to ride in around with friends.
    If you really needed the power, I don’t see shops suggest this often is a response tune. They often work fine with stock parts and make the car less lazy.

    Wheels are cool. Tyres are just what's comfy for the time you spend on the road with good wear efficiency un less you wanna grab those milliseconds on 400 to 800m dash. Suspension are just a waste of money for a daily car, it wont enhance your daily routine at all especially for 1500€ with KW as good as they might be (i dont own them). Daily car enthousiast should be about looking good and having a smooth and comfortable ride, it doesnt need much. • @Coptin
      @Coptin 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Those 2 systems aren't really connected, so there should be zero issues for the transmission unless it's completely slammed and putting stress on the axles, or possibly the driveline could be pushing the yoke too hard into the transmission.
      Or well, unless the transmission is scrapping on the ground over each bump, which if it's at that point, then the oil pan would be a bigger issue

    I have a question, if I want to keep my stock height wouldn't it be better to get a side wall a little more thicker? I have a 2024 civic hatchback, I have 235/40 R18. Currently when driving I feel that the tires are a little thin and is worried about damaging the stock black wheels that come with the sport trim. You baited every FXT owner into here with that thumbnail
    Also, mine's on Tein Flex Z's and they're significantly better than the BC's I replaced, likely because the BC's 3x spring rate over OEM was REALLY aggressive for a DD. Keep spring rate in mind when looking for coils!!

      spring rate is not the main thing that matters, its the valving and design choices

    9.5” wheels with a 225/40 seems a bit stretched for a daily.

    I love my daily. I wont modify it because this car should actually stay reliable.

    is it dumb to lower the car if you may have to drive it in snow? i'm sure because you don't have that same ground clearance anymore.

    I do need to put money into my project car so I do feel attacked but that’s ok I need to hear it lol. But as far as modding my daily driver I challenge you to find a way to make a 2009 v6 awd Toyota Venza cool. You can’t lol it’s a great reliable safe daily for groceries and driving my wife and son around in but there is virtually almost zero aftermarket support for it. I bought it at a time when my car was hit by a deer and I just needed something bigger for family and I needed it asap this was also unfortunately in the inflated post covid market so I didn’t have many options. Ideally when I’m better off financially I’d like to maybe get a Lexus is350 f sport in the 2021 and up body style.
