Thanks for this Scott. You asked for suggestions for other videos. I'd love to see more content on "How to improvise over..." specific songs. e.g. it would be great to hear you do some simple improvisation over Autumn Leaves, while explaining your thinking. Ditto for other jazz standards such as Blue Bossa, Cantaloupe Island, I got Rhythm, Song for my father etc.
Hey Chris, you should check out my Sax School. I have full tutorials on how to improvise over Autumn Leaves, Blue Bossa, Cantaloupe Island, and Song For My Father up on the sight as part of the improv sections. www.scottpaddocksaxschool.com
Great video lesson. Could you record yourself playing some beginner level solos over these chords and record parts for us to play back to you ie: call and response soloing?
Crikey this music theory stuff is sooooooo hard... when does it start making sense? I’ve been learning Alto Sax for just 9 mths.... my brain is starting to explode but you explain it all so nicely I’d love to understand it all.
Hey Bonny, you should check out my Sax School, I teach theory in a step by step process throughout the lessons. It will be a lot easier to understand if you learn it that way. www.scottpaddocksaxschool.com
I hate it when people complain about something that is free, but I did sit through an ad. How about playing something over the theory to actually have it make sense? I found myself trying to hear "Autumn Leaves" in my mind to tie it together. I know enough theory that I could rationalize what you were saying, but applying it to something else would be a stretch for clod like me.
Hey Joe, the whole idea behind this video was talking about how chords are related to each other and not random. It's not about improvising over the chords or playing the melody. It's about analyzing the relationship between each of the chords and seeing how they go together. I do tons of vidoees where I talk about improv. This one was about theory 😁
Transition chord. genius! i need to study this a few times. Thanks Scott!

Outstanding stuff once again Scott; absolutely invaluable advice once again cheers
