I got my 100% P&T in December 2018 and paid off my VA Claims Insider in November 2019. I celebrate that. The student loan forgiveness wiped out $68,300 in student loan debt. I then paid off my private student loan in March 2020 and saved 27%. Now, I have no student loans, which is a HUGE relief for which I am so thankful.

I Had no idea that I live with PTSD. Learned about 6 years ago, I saw on my records "complex PTSD"
I asked my dr. what that meant; she said I've lived with it since I was 7 years old.
I don't care to complain since other's got a bad deal also.
I had a great P.C.P. who walked me to a social worker and she put me on a plan to increase to 100%.
...never asked for anything....so the VA takes care of me.
Most of the drs. on the mental health floor are more troubled than their patients.
    wow. ...but it's true.
    So...I feel so very fortunate.
    Good luck, everyone. !!

I have a C&P on the 16th of this month here in TX and I'm nervous as hell. I had a knee injury while I served in Germany with the 237th Engr Btn. I blew my knee out while learning how to "combat ski" down a mountainside in Vincenza Italy. I went down at the top of a mountain and didn't stop for over 300m. When the medic finally reached me my knee was the size of a watermelon and I couldn't move it at all. Did the sick call thing got put on profile after profile all the while my knee keeps popping out of place. Got out of the Army about a year later and have been dealing with this ever since then. I went to my doctor to see if he could help me and he asked if I was a veteran and I said yes then he told me that I needed to get to the VA and start a claim. Didn't even know what a claim was and what he was talking about. All these years I never knew the VA would compensate me for this. This happened in the early '90s and I been dealing with it ever since. I even lost a job once because I was carrying something of value and my knee popped out of place and I dropped it and was fired. My knee constantly pops out of place, swells up, achs when it rains or when it's cold when the wind blows. Just a royal pain in the ass every day to think about your knee popping out and hurting constantly. Any brothers out there have any tips or advice as to what to expect or what to do? I keep hearing about all these percentages veterans are awarded. I'm kinda glad my C&P is on the 16th of this month because the last time my knee popped out of place was three days ago and it swelled up and hurts like a mother. The doctor at my local hospital said I knee replacement but I'm too young to get one. What percentage does something like this warrant? Any help would be greatly appreciated. -12B Combat Engineer

First off best of luck! You'll want to make sure when you go in for your exam, everything you explain is how your knee affects you on your WORST day. Not today, yesterday but on your worst day. Don't allow them to move you or bend your knee past the point of pain. You've got this!

Hi! Informative and fun to listen to. I am confused regarding the spouses monthly Income with the death of a veteran. I cannot find a VA rule stating that the P&T 100% veteran must be married to the spouse for 10 years before the spouse is eligible for the 1300 or so a month following the veteran's death. I see where the veteran must have their service connection(s) for at least 10 years before the spouse is eligible for the monthly amount. Can you post a VA page that contains this verbiage? Thanks

Just a note re: Chapter 35. Dependents can only get tuition, fees, and books paid for if the service member DIES in the line of duty or from a SC disability (these benefits fall under the Fry Scholarship). If the service member is still living, but 100% P&T, then your dependents can ONLY receive the monthly stipend this benefit falls under Dependents’ Educational Assistance program.

Actually The Fry Scholorship falls under chapter 33 (Post 9/11 GI Bill Marine Gunnery Sergeant David Fry Scholarship) Chapter 35 IS for tuition assistance which includes a monthly stipend and is available for those rated 100% P&T . I just applied for my daughter who will be attending college this fall.

Many states are picking up the tuition - for example, Virginia covers tuition for dependents once the veteran is 90% or higher. Chapter 35 also has special restorative benefits for kids that need extra educational services and are over the age of 14.

Here is a concern for me.
I have a bad heart (I already have a pacemaker)
Due to situations I faced while in the military, I started smoking. The sad part is, I never smoked before I joined, and this is well documented.
Even my shrink has stated in my records about this.
Smoking has caused me some heart issues.
I would love to have that as part of my rating.
However, my VA rep has stated that the VA will open my claim and remove the T&P status I currently have to look into this matter.
They could lower my rating from 100% or keep it the same and add the new claim - or deny my claim and drop my rating.
I'm still seeing a shrink ( have been for 10 years) - so she says that is on my side.
I'm at a lose of what to do.

Nobody told me about those toll roads. I pay attention to signs, among other things, behind the wheel. Texas should be ashamed of the lack of accessibility to information about their toll roads, specifically toll booths with attendants ~somewhere~ or maybe SIGNS. I flew back home for the first time in 15 years and grabbed a rental at DFW to make the 2.5 hour drive to my folks' place. I couldn't believe I was on a toll road in Texas! I figured I'd come across a tollbooth to pick up a ticket, but I never did. I could not figure out how I got on there for all my life. Then, somehow, it turned into a normal freeway. I couldn't figure out what happened and didn't have time to ponder it since the reason I was home was because Papa broke his neck. Now I'm familiar with Texas tollways and their digital tracking. I hated it. Drove to Rochester the other day and found out NY is doing it too. My home exit still had tollbooths, but the rest of the tollbooths were gone. Disappeared. I miss the 90's...

    I have two questions
    1. If the 100% P&T veteran does not have any school loans, but they have credit card loans, can they turn their credit card debt into a school loan and then have that paid off under the student loan forgiveness?
    2. I was once having a conversation with a veteran who was recently given 100% P&T and given an extra $400ish dollars a month in payment. They do not have any dependents nor require a clothing allowance due to disability. I did not have a chance to see what it was that was causing them to receive the extra amount. Do you know what possible benefit they are using to be receiving $3,700 a month so that other 100% P&T veterans might apply for it, too?

800-827-1000 / www.VA.gov is a good source for Federal benefits and www.Military.com for State; you can check these 2 sites to verify.

I was released from a CA prison after 18 years for a misdemeanor they gave me 25 to life for attempted petty theft! I had 2 felony convictions from the 70's. I would still be there if the buyers hadn't amended the 3 strike law to apply only to those rapist, child molesters, murderers, I'm a Vietnam veteran and had a drug problem and by Burglary and a Robbery in 78 and 84 they used the misdemeanor to give me life. I was one of 12 that were released in 2013. I applied for SSI and was approved with all my cancer and ortho issues for $710 per.mo.
I came to Tucson when released and the VA sent me to a Veterans place where you could live for 3 months. As soon as I got there the staff checked to see if I was eligible for HUDVASH where a Vet gets set up in a apartment or home rent free. He called me in to the office and told me, hood and bad news. You aren't eligible for HUDVASH but you should get non service connected disability. He sent me to this VA office where counselors check on disability claims for us. He filled out the application sent it in. Since I was receiving SSI, they approved it and right after I received my 1st SSI check a check from the VA for $1080 arrived. I had to stop the SSI because the VA was giving me more. After a few months the counselor put in a application for Housebound because I have trouble buttoning shirts, and a lot of things with my bad hand. In a month I was approved and with cost of living increases a few times since 2013 I now get $1913 per mo. I have more medical issues, kidney removal, need hip replacement, and anemia. Do you think I can get more anyway ? Thanks
Btw I served in Armored Calvary iin the Army from 71-74
