- It's time for some Midwest mayhem! The newly-formed South-East Missouri Combat Robotics group hosted their first tournament this past March, so Cheesecake and I met up with some friends in St. Louis and then headed on out to compete!
The previous version of this video had some editing errors, but you can still see it here:
• OLD EDIT: Cheesecake t...
Event: www.robotcombatevents.com/eve...
Bracket: challonge.com/quadconrobotbas...
SEMO Combat Robotics: e/4cFcDpldA
The tournament is a double elimination bracket. Each fight lasts 2 minutes. You win by disabling your opponent so they can no longer move. If your opponent cannot move, they will get counted out on a ten-second countdown. Even if they can only drive in circles, that is usually enough movement to avoid being counted out. If both robots are still moving at the end of the fight, then the winner is declared by a panel of judges, who score each robot on damage (done to the opponent) aggression (how much each robot initiates the engagements) and control (how much control you have over the fight). Drivers are allowed to tap out at any time during the fight. Drivers may also request one "unstick" if their robot is stuck on the arena.

I already said it on the old edit, but Cheesecake is my favourite Robot in the Ant weightclass, I am already hyped to see what you came up with for the 3 pounds. Great Video and goodluck!
I love the way you edit your videos. Commentary during and after the fights really helps make us make sense of things and stay engaged. It's a great format!
Honestly my favorite small TH-camr.
"Well I did ask for no mercy"
-holey pokez driver
Can confirm he wanted no mercy and took some serious damage from cheesecake and myself
That was the sort of design a 6yo would make...

@@tacotatopgnimoclewhsinnifehT The Missouri bot is the worst design for a combat robot I've ever seen...
Alex was a class act at this tournament and even took the time to take photos with my son who adores cheesecake and gave him a sticker. It was awesome seeing cheesecake dominate live!
I gotta say, Cheesecake has the greatest character arc out of all combat rombots I've watched on TH-cam :)
idk what it is but watching these tiny and relatively cheap robots go at it on a smaller scale is so much more entertaining than the big robot shows
It’s because it is cheesecake
Part of what does it for me when I fight these little guys is how the physics are kinda silly compared to even a 30lb bot. The materials are a lot stronger compared to the weapon power at this scale, and the motors are too. Plus the bots are often mostly plastic, so they bounce around a lot.
Yeah idk what it is but it's so much better haha
Probably because this video is edited better than battlebots
@@Modidasti that's not difficult
Not only is Cheesecake a solid, mature design, you simply outdrive most of your opponents. Well done!
To be fair half his opponents are usually kids lol
But Cheescake is a beast! haha
As i said for the old edit, Cheesecake is becoming more like the Tombstone of antweights.
And again, The Beetleweights are filled with vert drum spinners. So, be innovative and effective with your additions and upgrades.
The slowmo cut of the Dobby fight is just gold, the realization of what just happened on that poor kids face. Hopefully he managed to get his bot back together haha!
Commented too soon! Watched the rest of the vid and it looks like Dobby got a little taste of revenge!
Honestly i love watching your tournaments they are great fun and i like how you explain what happened and changes you make and stuff honestly you deserve many more subscribers this is awesome stuff
Hey it was so awesome to meet you at this event Alex. I hope to get to see you again some day
I love the content you upload its opened my eyes to a whole new world of mini robot warfare and of course I'm routing for cheesecake 🏆🥇 its great seeing the little guy do well
I have loved watching Cheesecake evolve from the first incarnation with flaws and weak spots into a mature design that can be customized to fight different types of opponents.
Cheesecake is my favourite robot. I’ve really enjoyed watching his culinary journey eating wheels walls and more. Great editing and design work, I can’t wait to see what you build next.
Of all the robot battle videos this series has the best editing and commentary.
Always love these videos mate, something really fun about them, especially having watched your process in getting Cheescake to this point. Looking forward to the next one.
Congrats on the win....👍
2:00 Badly designed walls in that arena allowing space under the walls for getting Stuck.... Looks like as much as 1/4".
it's not a bug it's a feature
Everything is a bug in ant-weight :P
This is what I come home to watch TH-cam for! Every thing about these are great and I’m excited for the beetle hoping you bring it to June NHRL so I can met you again! And for the beetle you should have cheesecake as the mini bot.
Hey man just discovered your channel but i really admire the dedication you put into this channel and cheescake! Good luck on the tournament
Love these so much. I watch every tournament. Please keep these up!
Love your fights mate, I miss robot wars here in the UK man. I can't wait to see your next build. 'Staying tuned for more'.
Can not wait for your next endeavours! Been watching Cheesecake's adventures since version 2 I believe, and it's been great!
Enemy's Wheels: exposed
Cheesecake: nom nom nom nom nom
Congrads with your massive success with cheesecake! And thanks for sharing your journey with us.
Looking forward to following you on your beetle weight journey:)
I'm beginning to realize how much I look forward to your videos!
Great video as usual, cant wait to see what your cooking up next
Grinding a little recess into the shaft where the set screw sits will help to prevent that drive issue reoccurring. It means the set screw has to back out that little bit further before fully losing connection.
cheesecake my beloved
Really, really enjoy the interactive improvement approach you take, so I'm super excited regarding your beetle-weight bot!
I live in missouri and had no idea they had fighting bot competitions here. Thanks for sharing I will have to go and watch next time.
Really enjoying your ant weight robot and it’s fights. Honestly never thought this small class of battle bots would be as good as the full size version, but it’s actually more fun IMHO! Plus it’s far more accessible to a wider range of people, not just engineering doctoral candidates and professors of robotics! 😂
15:44 am I the only one who thinking “FINISH HIM!” Here? 😂
Great video and great first event for the group. Wish Cheesecake was coming to Houston next week.
Cheesecake is looking beastly! Can't wait to see what is to come with the national championship and also the beetle bot sound exciting.
Best video yet! Such great fights
I am very impressed by your driving even when cheesecake loses a drive! Still like a homing missile to those wheels against HoriVertzical
Two robots means twice as many tournaments and cool videos!
who knew I could be so invested in cheesecake's adventures, thx for another great upload alex!! :3
always so much fun watching cheesecake!
It was super cool meeting you, I'm coming up to GSCRL for that rematch!
The wheel eater returns.
Thrilling! Man what a show.
Man I can't wait to see what you bring to the beetles. It's already such tight competition as it is, so best of luck to you!!
Great work. You can really see your driving improve. Especially on that one against the vertical/horizontal spinner when you lost half your drive, but you maintained impressive control and lined up some really great shots. Now that it seems like your design is pretty much locked in, you'll only keep getting better as your skills continue to sharpen
congrats champ looking forward to the next upload !
These were some excellent matches. Congrats on the win!
It's amazing Dobby being in the fight with no wheels left.
Loved the fight cant wait to see the next
Came across your channel recently and I binge watched everything cheesecake related. your commentary and intelligent build ideas as well as execution have been really enjoyable to watch. Keep it up! my favorite bot in battle bots growing up was Razer, what was yours?
also can the new beetle weight bot be named pound cake? and have more cake related accessory names? if not that's cool, just an idea. but I like the name cheesecake for a battle bot. its whimsical alliteration is juxtaposed perfectly with the reality that cheesecake is made to be a pentagon (almost) shaped pancake of destruction.
Lol "its over alex" when you were help8ng dobby back to the door
Awesome Battles!
Horivertzical is such a cool design, you took out both wheels and it was still coming at you just by being able to angle their disc! It's like they had a reaction wheel as much as a weapon. Idk what the wall was made of but great performance.
Dude I can't wait to see a robot fights company named 'Alchemy Foods'.
All the different bots are food names and stuff.
BattleBots is gonna be LIT in a few years.
Great to see Cheesecake still kicking bot! See you at Nats!
exited to see your next robot design
"Drop on the deck and flop like a fish cheese cake!"
Cheesecake's reign of terror extends to the midwest!
11:24 We just did the spongebob musical at our school! Complete suprise
Beetle weights are a whole different ballgame to ants. In ants weight is your biggest enemy. I feel like In beetles space is. Everyone was joking at the last comp I went too that it’s not a beetle unless your electronics barely fit with zero room to spare. They are just so destructive that the frames really need to be built small so they don’t warp. Often ants will launch the whole bot. It beetles you start getting stuff completely ripped apart. Your entire bot can get destroyed in a single hit. I think it’s more fun personally. I hate going home with no trophy and a working robot. If I’m gonna loose I want to loose big. I started in beetles and I moved into ants recently so the opposite as you. I’m curious to see how the differences affect you. Good luck Alex
You unlocked a third mode for HoriVertzical, diagonal spinner!
Dulce is in the National Championship!
Really hope you guys face each other out there, gotta break that tie!
we need 3lb cheesecake on NHRL
I wonder if you could have a rotating object with a linear actuator mounted on it. You could put a weight on one end of a stick, and a spike on the other. Put the weight outwards to save up angular momentum then shift the weight in and the spike out to get a massive amount of speed without having to have bearings handle that speed continuously
Those wheels that a lot of them use just get shredded
Good job, Alex! You really deserved it! I think you were really nervous on being sticked to the wall with your weapon than being torn out by the other competitors! Hehe! Maybe an improvement would be to hide those cables better! :D
You mustve put alot of sugar in cheesecake cuz it loves sticking in the wall
Lots of good fights in the one, the first fight with Dobby was a little quick, but the rematch more than made up for it!
Im amazed with how many things went wrong with cheesecake, but you still managed to get 1st place!
Cheesecake really is operating right on the edge of what is possible, but it's been a very fun journey to get here! The little things really do add up, and that extra bit of margin is sometimes all that saves me.
Cheesecake is literally the Messi of antweight
Good job Cheesecake!
Call the beetleweight robot beetlejuice
Can't wait to watch Cheesecake evolve into Chonkcake
gosh, I dream to be able to participate in those types of tournaments but I searched everywhere on the net but I cant find anything in my country which is belgium, or maybe am just not using the right words
I found myself yelling “EAT HIS WHEELS CHEESCAKE” all throughout this video😂 You’ve designed a killer robot! I can’t wait to see what kind of robot will be tearing up the beetle weight division next. (Is the new bot going to be desert themed as well??)
*We didnt hear no bell* sh that was cold 16:54
They'll be flying you into Vegas in no time!
I'd love to see your 3lbs in NHRL, considering your success here in the 1 lbs
I'm a huge battle bot fan , but I really have been enjoying these little guys. Cheese cake just goes and goes , great job.
Love Cheesecake
Well resented
I have my first combat robot fight in a few days because I saw one of your videos and build a bot from scratch
Tis but a flesh wound.! What a great show.
I love cheesecake video. Will miss him.
Good to see cheesecake dominate again. I am also curious whether or not the beetleweight will be a bigger Cheesecake or something new. With how good Cheesecake is I trust that you could make another good bot.
itll be sad to see my boy cheescake gone
Make your battle weight pumpkin pie
I clicked on this video so fast so I woke up my cat
I'm going to convince my school to let me build my circular/bar spiner which will be called 'lil' zippy and will be the British ant or beetle weight tombstone/fluffy
Mega fan!
By switching to those cleated wheels, you inadvertently showed just how effective your springy wheels are at prevent shock. There is one potential improvement I want too see, although it might be kind of expensive to machine. I want to see an aerofoil shape on the spinner to cut down on air resistance and drag. I want to see just how fast you can get that spinner spinning before low bite becomes an issue.
Awesome performance! If you need some parts for your upcoming beetle you know who to ask ;)
I'm definitely planning to use your Dartbox V2 Gecko drive motors!
@@alexsalchemy Depending on battery voltage and some other things, Vipers might be better for you to give similar drive performance to the antweight
@@JustCuzRobotics - Ah, you know what, I think that's right, that's what my spreadsheet says when I look back at it, good catch!
bro i love ur videos keep it up from India
Cheesecake is a beast!
Cheesecake's record (as of video)
Official fights:
45(37)-13(6)
Exhibition fights
0(0)-1(1)
Add another 1st on the mantle of Cheesecake yet again. So far this is the most decisions that have occurred of every tournament that Cheesecake has taken part of, but there was definitly enough mechanical gore to go around. Cheesecake has only been around 2 years and has built quite a record and heres to another robot to be added to the cakeshop.
*Sidenote
Jeez that topside attach by dobby was crazy.
I think the slicker floor really limited cheesecake since cheesecake is able to out maneuver most oppenents normally
The only bot dangerous than its name ❤❤❤❤
I see that the weapon hole that the motor sits in but what holds the weapon onto the motor?
cheesecake is a beast
And thats why you dont leave your wheels expoced in battlebots
Seeing holey pokez dissolve was sad, I feel bad for it
Since your fight with mudskipper ive tought about a bot ideia and after seeing this batlle i remembered about it since you won due to your very clear domination of control, but i have a ideia for a extreme speed bot with 4wd and steering, it would be a very weak robot with a weapon on the front that would use it fast speed and control to attack enemy wheels and other vital parts without the enemy being able to hit you, basically a stealth attacker
