We moored up in Penkridge one night, walked down to the pub and, after supper and a lager or two, walked across the bridge to meet the couple aboard Argi Bargi. Had no idea that, spelled otherwise, their boat's name actually meant something !
Brass Monkey comes from and old navy saying, "It's cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey", the brass monkey was the tray that held cannon balls, if it became cold enough then the brass tray would shrink to the point where the cannon balls would role off.
I was introduced to boffin in the Arthur C Clarke novel Glide Path about developing radar approach control for aircraft in WWII. I had always understood an anorak to be a waterproof top, like a raincoat (or mac in UK) but that there is no zipper, so you have to pull it over your head.
A sausage roll in Australia is a long piece of mincemeat in pastry . I think a sausage roll is a sausage wrapped in bacon what we call pigs in blankets .
@@MinimalListMaximalVelocity I AM a left-hander, although more of an ambidextrous these days - and I've always been a kack-hander! I'm the one that can put a screw into that awkward top right hand corner of something that a right-hander can't get at! 🙂

I want to see Jo, do N. American slang.

I would dispute kack-handed. Up in the NorthWest of the UK, it means left-handed.
If cack means pool that seems a little mean to the left-handed. :-(

Crap is what we go to the bathroom to do and there is a brand of recycled toilet paper called crappers 😂
Agree. I lived in the UK and never heard anyone say Anorak. In Austria it’s a common yet old word for jacket.
an anorak is a parka
Turn it around and let Jo see how she can do with the American and Canadian ones now.
Candy Floss is called Fairy Floss in Australia .We have Fairy Bread but America calls it Cloud Bread this might be because political correctness.
A boffin is a science nerd, lol they sit hunched over their computers cracking code or looking into space.
